“Our beautiful Amalfi 'home' and 'family' in Sorrento.”
Reviewed 4 November 2010

I travelled to Sorrento with six of my friends (3 couples) as a celebration of our 50th Birthdays. We were able to book the four villa's on the lower level of Villa Elissa. ( Each villa is what we would call a studio apartment in Australia). Booking was very easy and I communicated via email with Antonio on several occasions so that I was sure that the accommodation would suit our needs. We had the courtyard area outside the villa's to ourselves and used it extensively for alfresco dining and leisure time.

Prior to our arrival Antonio had given us information on transport to Sorrento and assisted our group by organising airport transfer from Naples by a trusted and professional provider. He also organised for the same company and driver to take us on a day trip to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. We had a wonderful day.

As a reward for staying over 7 days at Villa Elissa, Antonio organised his father, Mario (a tour guide) to take us to Herculaneum by train and guide us through the historic site. We really appreciated this.

Our group wanted a cooking experience whilst in Sorrento. Mario (Antonio's father) is a chef, as well as a tour guide, and Antonio organised him to lead us in the making of traditional Campanian dishes in the family home. Antonio's mother, Jospehine and his sister, Laura also helped. We had a hearty banquet with local wines at the conclusion of our experience. This was a very special evening for us and we really felt part of the family.

The villa's are very clean, self-contained and well-secured. Villa Elissa is centrally located for transport (rail, bus and ferry), shopping, the historic sites of Pompei and Herculaneum, and the Amalfi coast region.

The owners are extremely helpful, whilst allowing you the privacy you may expect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Elissa and I would love to return in the future.

Superb location very central (including rail/bus station) for seeing Sorrento and the surrounding area, including Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Pompei, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Naples. The charming courtyard, leading directly onto a square in the old part of the city, is an ideal place to eat meals or just sit and enjoy a peaceful moment after a day's sightseeing.

The studio apartment was compact but very comfortable, with almost everything you could ask for in a self catering facility. The combined kitchen/diner/bedroom led into a private bathroom with spacious shower, toilet, bidet and recessed sink unit with hair dryer. The lack of window was more than compensated for by the excellent and quiet air conditioning unit.

The friendly and ever helpful owners and staff completed what was an excellent stay. Mario (owner) is also an accredited tour guide; his personal tour of Pompei was excellent!

We'd definitely recommend this to others and would consider here first if revisiting Sorrento.

Located at Piazza Sant' Antonino,19. A five minute walk to the main square. Walking distance to the train/bus and port. Several small apartments on the first floor with a beautiful garden. Owned by the niciest people you will ever meet. Excellent service, rooms are neat and clean. You leave your apartment, go through the garden and through the gate onto the street. There is a park across the street and two within 5 minutes with a view of the port ,and the Bay of Naples. Go to www.villaelisasorrento.com to view the apartments. What I now, half a month after we left Sorrento remebers most cleary is the openness and kindness of the proprietor and everybody else we met at Villa Elisa. They made us feel at home, from the moment we arrived, tired and sweating in the heavy heat, and were treated to cold mineral water, coffee (and ice cream for our daughter).
We stayed at Villa Elisa for a month in two different apartments, one on the first floor and an other on the ground floor. The first one was fantastic, the second one a little bit less so, but that too was great value.
The location can not be beat.

This little gem is in the middle of Sorrento and was a real find. We loved the apartment aspect as we made our breakfasts and dinners and eating our meals in the courtyard was delightful. This apt is located in the heart of Sorrento and yet the apts are very quiet and private. Nice bathroom.

We booked this hotel after some research on trip advisor and are not disappointed! Antonio runs the self-catering villa with his Mama (the apartments have been family-run since after WWII), who are both very friendly.

We stayed for 3 nights, and put down a 30% deposit at the time of reservation. We paid 70 euros a night and think this is a excellent value. Villa Elisa is located in the centre of Old Sorrento (Piazza Sant'Antonio), and is about 10 min walk from the Train station (no need for taxis or public transportation even if you have luggage on wheelies). It is also very close to the marina (ferry for Capri) you walk down a slopped street, then take a set of stairs on the side of the cliff (sort of). From the train station, you walk down the main street Corso Italia and when you reach the main city square, walk to the end (keep to the right) then hang down the first street on the right (next to a very narrow street) and you will reach Piazza Sant'Antonio (with a bronze statue of the saint), and the apartments is behind a wrought-iron gate next to a small shop. You buzz the door bell and either Antonio or his Mama will let you in.

There is a courtyard with patio tables and chairs for dinning. They had 5 or 6 rooms I believe, we stayed in room C and it was a lovely room with a double bed (2 singles pushed together), kitchenette fully equipped with 2-range stove (gas), mini fridge, utensils, glasses/plates/bowls. (everything you need to make a meal). There is also a TV, air conditioning (though it was not needed in beginning of June), a spacious closet, a small table and 2 chairs and a decent sized washroom that was very clean. Shower can comfortably fit 2 people.

Even though the square was fairly noisy, you dont hear much from the inside as the walls are thick. The only thing we wish they had was wi-fi, but the thick walls make it very hard :)

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back if we visit the area again!
