We are sorry you felt ripped off.
Since the third week of July the Vesuvius was affected by a series of intentional wildfires along its slopes.
Almost 7 square miles of forest were affected by the fires. Residential areas were touched, but luckily no damage or fatalities were reported. The fires destroyed large areas of vegetation, exposing the volcanic rock to erosion.
As a consequence, the areas all around were evacuated, the National park of Mount Vesuvius was closed and all the activities forbidden.
That's why you could not join the tour advertised.
Thanks to the hard work of hundreds of firemen and volunteers at the beginning of August one street going up to the Vesuvius was opened but the circulation was allowed just to small vehicles for maximum 6-7 people.
Dozens of guests everyday continued asking for a Vesuvius trip, so in order to offer to them an alternative way to go up we created the tour you joined.
This is a semi-private tour (maximum 6 people on board) while on the 4 x 4 there were more than 20 people and we included round trip train tickets, so the price is reasonable.
We regret this excursion did not reach your expectations.
