Villa Serena is an Italian gem, which offered everything our family was looking for – and more! Location - Perched high on the hills of Capo di Sorrento in a quiet residential area with fantastic views of the Gulf of Naples. Sunsets and even a moonset were amazing! Within walking distance (a bit long and a bit hilly but clearly doable since we did it several times) to a market, pizza house and swimming. The villa itself is stunning. Tastefully furnished in the local style with antiques, art work, and interesting accessories, it is nonetheless eminently charming, comfortable and fully equipped. By fully equipped we mean the practical, like terrific A/C, to the aesthetic – like Italian ceramic dinnerware. All the rooms have French doors opening onto a terrace or balcony letting in the views and breezes, and each spacious bathroom is uniquely tiled and equipped with modern showers, etc. The outdoor areas are many starting with the loggia just off the front door and winding down to the pool area. In between are two other sitting areas on lawns – all with snazzy outdoor furniture and views of the sea, and surrounded by a garden rich in the amount and variety of plantings and flowers. We did not want to leave the villa, but the location is perfect for exploring Campania for shopping, swimming, its restaurants, historic sites, etc. Francesco prepared our first night feast, which was on a par with the fantastic area restaurants. No stay at Villa Serena would be the same without Theresa, who kept the villa and its grounds to a very high standard and provided all kinds of assistance with good cheer (restaurant names, taxi, swimming towels, how to turn on the outside lights, etc.). We highly recommend Villa Serena.

Mu wife and I spent a week at the Villa Serena with three college-age kids and it was absolutely terrific. The house and gardens were exactly as depicted on the website, including the 180-degree unobstructed view of the Bay of Naples. The bedrooms were comfortable, the bathrooms were spotless and the overall impression was of a high quality, well-maintained vacation property. Although her English is limited, Teresa is a warm and welcoming host who manages to be instantly available, completely responsive and entirely unobtrusive; all at the same time. Believe me, you will want to take her home with you.

The location is just about perfect, far enough outside town to hear roosters crowing in the morning but only a five minute walk and ten minute bus ride to Piazza Tasso in the center of Sorrento. The college students particularly appreciated the proximity to clubs, bars and restaurants.

We stayed at Villa Serena over Easter, and couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Our host, Teresa, was absolutely incredible. She took care of every one of our needs and requests with an easy smile, which is not easy when you have 3 2-year old children running around! In addition to everything that she and Maria did around the house, she is a brilliant cook, having prepared a special Easter dinner and a pizza party during our time there. The garden was a wonderful escape for the kids, who ran around exploring all the different nooks and crannies.

However, what sets Villa Serena apart from all the other villas and apartments we have rented around the world are the services that Teresa and Maria provided. We enjoy villas because of the privacy and flexibility they provide, but we know we sacrifice the perks of staying in hotels. At Villa Serena, everything gets taken care of, just like you were at a top hotel. The restaurant, bar, concierge and cleaning staff are all just a shout away.

The downside of all this pampering is obvious - the place is not exactly cheap. It's in a bit of an odd spot, on a totally nondescript road, and one can get lost very, very easily trying to find it on your own. Also, while there is ample parking for three cars, the road up to the villa and the walled driveway are veeeeery tight, especially for any americans like us. just make sure you don't rent a large car or van (our volvo was scraping the sides every time we drove in and out). Finally, the fact there was only one key to the front gate makes juggling schedules for three families somewhat of a hassle.

However, once you are shown the Villa's location, you will have a private oasis with incredible views and the friendliest and most helpful staff you could possible imagine, all within a 2 minute drive into the town of Sorrento. Highly recommended, we're looking forward to heading back soon.
