Review of Leonelli's Beach

Leonelli's Beach
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We visited this beach on a Sunday as had used some of the other piers and decided to use the beach. We were early so not many people and were taken to our beds to be told we could not use front row as Italian locals had these spots. Even though some were empty until after lunch. We weren’t told this an
S were told we could chose beds before we paid and found out we couldn’t. Then the families started to arrive. The noise was immense with people shouting, kids crying and running around for the duration of our visit. I feel we should have been told a. We couldn’t chose our bed, and b. It was Italian family day on a Sunday! Not an enjoyable experience

We came for dinner one night and had Tonino as our server. He was so great that we came back today for the beach (€13.00 for a beach chair and €6.50 for an umbrella). Had lunch and were served by Tanino again. We loved him as a server and highly recommend. Very attentive and helpful, patient and committed to making your meal very enjoyable. We had caprese salad which was delicious with balsamic vinegar and the pizza al prosciutto. Highly recommend with this server!!!

We checked out 4 different private beach areas while in Sorrento. IMO this is the best.

The trick to these in my experience is to know that you are going to pay probably more than you think is right. Once you get past that, pretty awesome.

Dedicated spots with chairs and sunbrella, nice volcanic sand, outstanding swimming area good for all ages, including spots to dive off the rocks, very polite service and pretty good quality food.

2 chairs and umbrella is €28, a gigantic 1L ice cold beer is €12, entrees are either side of €15. You keep your spot as long as you want all day if you choose. Service is right to your spot. Options are right on the sand or on the elevated promenades.

Compared to beach spots in other places in the world of course it’s very expensive, but when you see the options that are in Sorrento, it makes sense because the sandy beach spots are very rare.

The main beach area in Sorrento is reached either by a fairly steep, long walk, a road, again a long walk or the lift (Elevator) from the area by the art gallery. 1 euro single or 1.80 return, worth every penny, beware long queues at the end of the day and the completely miserable staff on the pay stations.
There are three or four pontoon type areas built into the sea, some with a small beach, all with loungers and parasols etc that you can hire. All have a bar and restaurant and dining areas.
The first we tried was Leonelli's as we wanted to sit on the beach, 13 euros for a bed and 6 for a parasol but we did have beachfront loungers albeit veeeerrryy close to the people on the next beds.
The beach got quite boisterous in the afternoon with footballs being kicked with abandon, hitting my wife twice.
We didn't try the food as we had our own.
Read my reviews for the other two areas.

Just in Sorrento for the day and after a short walk around the shops, we headed back down to the beach/port area.

We stumbled across Leonelli’s beach club/restaurant and had a few drinks and lunch, great food & service in a great location.
