The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Giovanni and Nuzianna were EXCEPTIONAL, especially considering that they had a full house. We were considering staying in Sorrento an extra couple of days and whilst Maison Tofani was completely booked, Gionvanni gratefully helped us look for other accommodation. He also assisted with a half day tour to Pompeii that we thoroughly enjoyed. The breakfast was great and had everything you could think of.
We had a double deluxe room and it was of an excellent size, the bed was super comfy and the room clean. Personally I did not like the Jacuzzi shower as it was a corner shower and found it a little small. But other than that this hotel is exceptional.
Thank you to the team at Maison Tofani. Highly recommended!

Maison Tofani is located right in the old town, which is good (near busy restaurants, shops, nightlife) and bad (near restaurants, shops, and nightlife). If you have a car, you have to park in a parking (15€ per day) about 800m away, where they provide a free shuttle to a square close to the hotel.
The hotel is located in parts of an old villa with an impressive staircase and fresco ceilings (in the breakfast restaurant and bar). It has style and comfort. Breakfast is just great.
Rooms on floors 1 and 2 are large and very well equipped, however their view is into the narrow streets around the house. The loft rooms on floor 3 have great views and are very quiet, yet they are really small and the ceiling is so low in most of the room, that even average size people keep banging their heads.
Giovanni is a very friendly and helpful host. So is most of the staff.
The rate we had to pay for the loft room, however, was far too high for the size and the comfort of the room.

Room Tip: Be careful with some rooms: Lofts are very small and low, some other rooms go to a narrow alley with...

Giovanni, the on site manager is excellent and a wonderful man. The hotel staff under him will do all possible to accommodate their guests requests. The property is very nice although the location is on the most busy alley street so could be noisy, room access is not he best..many steps up a few floors, breakfast is average. Bed, sheets etc are average quality.

This place is situated in a beautiful old building and retains many of the frescos, period features and furnishings from its' ancient past as a Royal house. We were greeted by the ever attentive Giovanni who gave us a guided tour, and arranged for our bags to be taken up to the room. There is a lift but it is slow and very cosy! The steps are a better option - an old, worn, stone staircase full of history with views into the central atrium at every landing. We had a lovely room, spacious, bright, modern with tea & coffee making facilities and a balcony overlooking the main street. Despite central location it is very quiet at night. Breakfast is good - choice of fruit, yoghurts, juices, bread, jams and limited range of hot food (scrambled egg, ham, sausage etc. which varies each day). Fabulous spread a pastries and cakes which are far too tempting at that time of the morning. The owners serve breakfast each morning and are a lovely couple. They have a small roof terrace with shower if you want to sunbathe. Contrary to Travel_Gal they do have a night porter - he busies himself around the place but is on hand in the bar / lounge if you need anything. Staff in reception are a mine of information and can book / sort anything you need. Giovanni has lived in Sorrento all his life so has a great local knowledge. They own two other restaurants in town and will recommend these - and you get a free drink if you eat there. We tried one, La Lanterna which wasn't bad at all.

Room Tip: All rooms are individual and most face onto the street. Ask for a lower floor if you have mobility p...

Maybe I had higher expectations because this hotel had so many high reviews, but I have no idea how this place is ranked at the top. This is more of a B&B than hotel and there aren't employees working in the evening, so ask any questions you have before they leave. Upon arriving they have boys carry your bags to the hotel, which we very much appreciated. The boys also brought our bags down when we left. That was a huge plus and the boys work very hard. Upon arriving to the hotel the staff was very nice and helpful. However, upon entering our room I was shocked at how dirty our room was. There was mold all over the AC unit, dark hair (we are blondes) and dirt all over the floor. The toilet hadn't been cleaned before we checked in either and had stains inside it. The place was so dirty that we wouldn't even walk around without our shoes on. This is one of the most dirty hotels I've stayed at in Europe. I was so congested from all the mold in the AC. I recommend skipping this town and heading straight to the Amalfi coast where the hotels are the same price but clean with beautiful views. I was so happy to leave this place. Luckily, the food at the Inn Bufalito made my stay in Sorrento better.

The breakfast was good, but I kept wondering how clean their kitchen was if my room was up to their standards. If you have cat allergies keep in mind that they have a cat roaming around.

Really interesting old building, hotel staff and cat really friendly. Very clean and nothing was too much to ask of the staff. Quite location despite being on the main shopping street.
Room was fine, although would of preferred a larger window and steps not for the less mobile.
Breakfast was okay, cheese and ham were fantastic and the variety was reasonable for the size of the hotel.
Would stay here again.

This was our last place on the Amalfi coast and as we had been staying in 4 star hotels we were hoping this would live up to the reviews. Giovanni organised a pick up from the ferry which saved lugging our suitcases up the hill and met us at the small square where you are dropped off. His service was oitstanding and his motto is "never say no".
Our room was appaerently one of the biggest and it overlooked the shopping street. We had no trouble with the noise as we slept with the doors shut and a very quiet but effective airconditioner.
As everyone has noted the breakfasts are great with an abundance of home prepared food.
Giovanni recommended where to eat and we had excellent service at this restaurant
