We returned to Sorrento due to its lovely location and stayed again at Il Nido. Things only got better from our last visit. The hotel was the same - excellent accommodations, very helpful and friendly staff, and great restaurant. AND the view from the restaurant balcony over the Bay of Naples was again magnificent. I can't say enough how enjoyable it was to talk to interact with the staff - questions, thoughts about what to do, and just conversation.

The washing machine and dryer in the lower level are true bonuses when you've been traveling a while.

The hourly shuttle from hillside Il Nido location (what makes the view of the Bay of Naples) to Sorrento is convenient enough and timed for both catching tours and coming back in the evening. They have added a stop at the train station when you leave, eliminating the need to walk you luggage from the normal drop off point to the train station. This made catching a 9:33 train from their 9:00 shuttle trip easy.

Sorrento and Il Nido are both wonderful places to visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room view a balcony view of the bay.

We have just returned from a week in Sorrento staying at the family run Il Nido Hotel. It offers wonderfull service from both family and staff. The room was
large and comfortable with plenty of storage space, en-suite bathroom, free
safe and a balcony with wonderfull views of Capri, Ischia, Vesuvius and Naples.
Bedding and towels were immaculate and changed regularly There was a
buffet breakfast served on the terrace, with the same panoramic view. A free
bus service to and from town ran regularly during the day. We were greeted
by Dino, who was very helpfull suggesting places to visit and how to get there.
Relaxation is always top of our holiday list and this was certainly achievable.
We have no hesitation in recommending it to others and returning again ourselves.

Hard to beat this - small, quite intimate, family run, good spacious rooms (go for ones with balconies), nothing posh - but what great food, service and views. We ate dinner in their restaurant and on their terrace every evening of our stay. Sorrento restaurants aplenty for lunch but often noisy and crowded. The fifteen minute shuttle ride was no chore, and we were well rewarded by the peace and quiet compared wit the town. Sorrento's good as a base for Capri and the Amalfi Coast, but apart from the currently running Picasso exhibition has little to commend it.

Room Tip: Facing the bay, with a balcony.

Il Nido is an excellent small hotel with an awesome view of Sorrento, Vesuvius, and the bay of Naples. The hotel itself is bright and freshly decorated and spotlessly clean. I've been in the hotel business for almost 40 years and am presently a professor of hospitality and tourism management in the U.S. I was very impressed with Dino, his staff and family. He was born to be a hotelier in the European tradition. I generally avoid hotel restaurants. They are almost always overpriced and mediocre, but the restaurant at Il Nido was a wonderful experience. So much so that we went out of our way to return to the hotel in time to eat. And the prices are reasonable. Our stay at this hotel just added to the overall Italian ambience of our stay in Sorrento. We couldn't have been more pleased.

When we first booked this hotel we were a bit concerned as they were on the outskirts of town (up a long winding road). They did offer a free shuttle to/from town so based on other reviews we booked it! After a long flight to Italy and a local train ride, we took the 15 minute walk from the train station to the shuttle at Piazza Antiche Mura and was warmly greeted by the shuttle driver. The hotel was a 15 minute ride up a large winding road which could be walked, but why waste the time?

We had a beautiful room over looking the bay where you could easily see Naples and MT Vesuvius.

The free breakfast was great and the hotel had this orange juice maker that alone is worth a trip back!! The hotel had fresh oranges from their orchard (you can see it from our room) and you simply put 2 or 3 oranges in the top and this magic machine makes the best O.J. ever. We sat outside almost every morning looking over bay and watching the occasional cruise ship heading in.

II Nido may be off the beaten path but well worth the 10 minute shuttle to enjoy the view (from the top of the hill) and the O.J !!!

Room Tip: Get a room over looking the Bay. Well worth the few extra dollars.
