Il Nido Hotel Sorrento

Make no mistake about it, if you want commanding views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, Il Nido ("The Nest") is the place for you. The hotel is situated high on the mountain overlooking Sorrento. At first we wondered about being so far away from town, but the hourly shuttle (which runs first thing in the morning and then from mid-afternoon until 11:30 at night) removed all concerns about getting to and from town. The shuttle driver was gracious and friendly. We also appreciated the helpfulness of the staff. The night before our departure we asked for help getting a 6:00 a.m. taxi to take us to the train station to meet the airport bus. The owner, Dino, said, "Don't worry. I'll take you there myself!" We're so grateful for his help, which greatly eased our minds.

We stayed in room 129, which we would recommend for its balcony and fabulous view. The room is set off from the rest of the hotel and is very quiet. The room's outfitting is simple, and the bed is firm, reminding us of the beds in Mexican hotels. We also appreciated the internet terminals in the lobby.

What a wonderful four days my wife and I had at Il Nido. From the moment we were picked up at the train station by the shuttle bus to our early morning departure, we could not fault any thing. The terrace view, the food in the restaurant and the hotel staff were incredible - Dino went out of his way to make sure our stay was perfect. We loved the free shuttle bus that took us into Sorrento township and the fact that it was always on time to pick us up at the meeting point. Thank you Dino and your hard working staff and family for an unforgettable holiday

The rooms at Il Nido are spacious but very simple. Room-wise, I liked the hotel least of our stay. What makes the hotel a good bet is the location far away from the crowds and with a good view of the Gulf of Naples.

Pros: Spacious room with balcony. Great views. Free shuttle bus. A/C works well. Generally quiet (double glass doors to the balcony). Large buffet breakfast on the balcony with cappuccino machine and freshly squeezed orange juice. Friendly and eager-to-please service. The afternoon driver was esp. pleasant. Having a coin-operated washer and dryer was very convenient. All in all, a good monetary value.

Cons: Rooms are very simple. Not much room in bathroom for vanity items. Private balconies on first floor did not have any dividers between them, so we didn't use the balcony much, esp. when our neighbors were smoking. Safe is too small to fit a laptop in. One evening children were running around late in the lobby area (above the sleeping floors), which made it difficult to sleep.

We did not try the restaurant--there were too many interesting places to discover in the Sorrento area!

Good Location: It is 5 km away from the central spot, but thanks to that, you can see amazing view in Sorrento. They have a free shuttle bus hourly up to 11:20 pm, so it was not big deal at all.
Friendly Staff & Service: The family was very kind and most staff can speak English (but I know I should speak Italian in Italy). The shuttle bus driver was always on time & friendly all that time. The restaurant was good too - here again, you can see amazing view at the balcony.
Specious and clean Room: The room was always air-conditioned. Very quiet & comfortable clean bed.

Seriously, you will get $$$ service with paying $, BEST value ever! I have met several people at the hotel and no one complained about the hotel. There was a couple who stays at the hotel every year. You know what it means to have these repeaters!

We stayed at Il Nido for 4 nights in early June and were delighted with our choice of Hotel. It was delightful to wake to 'country' sounds rather than the buzz of the town. Our room had wonderful views out over Naples Bay and Sorrento. As others have said the breakfast is great and one of us in particular could have demolished all the fresh pastries. We only ate at the hotel for one evening meal but this was superb and well priced. The shuttle service to Sorrento runs like clockwork and can be relied on. It was also great to be able to catch the bus at the door to go to Positano. Dino was ever smiling and helpful considering he must offer the same helpful advice to travellers every day. There was no downside to our stay and we would thorougly recommend Il Nido to all travellers who want value for money. Thank you Dino and all the staff.

My 15-year old son and I stayed here at the end of May. My son was ill with a minor flu and when I called the proprietor he allowed us to check in early and had our room ready when we arrived. He could not have been kinder and more accomodating. He gave us a large 2nd floor room at the amazing rate of 80 Euro. Our breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples was wonderful--fresh warm pastries, cappuccino, fruit and yogurt. We also ate one evening meal here, among our best during our two-week Italian trip. The fresh fish prepared table side was amazing. The Nido is a famly run inn, cared for attentively by two brothers and a sister. These people work like crazy to make your stay wonderful. We were so disappointed with our accomodations afterward in Amalfi and wish we could have gone back to the Nido.

The setting is superb. The views from the balcony are stunning. The service is good, the staff helpful and friendly, the shuttle service works like clockwork, the food is good, rooms comfortable, amenities like the laundry room and the free computer for internet access very handy. So do I give the impression that we liked il Nido? Too right we did! It's great.
