Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria
Ranked #5 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Reviewed 29 December 2012

We arrived in Sorrento for the last three days of a 12 day Girl's Trip to Europe. AAA had booked us at the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso which was up high overlooking Sorrento and the Mediterranean. We arrived via the train from Naples which was like an above ground Subway. We all seven had to stand the whole ride with all of luggage! We had a driver pick us up and take us up to the hotel. We were so glad to finally be in this picturesque place for some relaxing down time at the end of our wonderful vacation. The man at the desk said he was so sorry but they had over booked and would gladly put us down at the Michelangelo. They treated us to lunch while we discussed. We decided to have them take us down there to check it out. It was NOT the caliber of hotel we had been staying in and was no where near the level of the Paradisio. So we refused. That meant we were on our own according to their policy. So we headed into town to shop and make several calls back to the states to our AAA agent with no avail. At around 9:00 pm we went to a small trattoria called Trattoria Chantecler. The precious men in there helped us and let us use their phone/fax machine to make calls. We used our ipad and iphones to search for hotels. We had passed a wonderful looking place while walking down town called Excelsior Vittoria. I ended up being the nicest hotel in Sorrento. We called them and they had the three rooms we needed. We checked in after 10pm and the took us to our rooms. We felt like the girls in the recent movie "Montecarlo" we had truly died and gone to heaven and the Lord had answered our prayers and given us a place to stay. Our room overlooked to breathtaking marina, the Mediterranean and Mt. Vesuvius. We can not say enough about the staff at the EV!!! They quickly learned our names and each of our wished was their command! The led us to the best restaurants where we had the best meals of our trip. They were kind and very also very handsome! We were supposed to take a day trip on a bus the next day along the Amalfi Coast, but with our hotel drama from the day before we decided to just sit by the pool and relax. The pool was amazing with these cool seats that had jets that you could turn on. The place to eat by the pool was outstanding with a brick pizza oven. We had to keep pinching ourselves! This was by far the best part of our trip because of our stay at the Excelsior Vittoria. On a day trip to Capri they suggested for us to eat at Il Riccio and it was off the charts! In Ana Capri on a cliff overlooking the water right by the Blue Grotto. The food was amazing and you could use their suntan chairs and cabanas after you ate. We took a swim in the Mediterranean that changed our lives! We would recommend the Excelsior Vittoria to anyone!!!!!

This hotel does not disappoint. We selected it based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. The location is perfect a short stroll to the main square and an elevator ride away from the main marina which is convenient to Capri. The gardens are the finest I have seen and they have car parking on sight. The amenities are all you can ask for with a quaint bar and a beautiful breakfast room. The views of Mount Vesuvius for the balcony and outdoor terraces are the best in Sorrento. Front desk staff are patient and attentive.

If and when we return to Sorrento this is the place to stay!.

We stayed here in October 2012. The gardens were still spectacular and the location is superb...right in town but very very secluded. We had a beautiful view from our room over looking the bay and the staff here is remarkable..normally we do not eat at the hotels for dinner however our dinner here was better than the 5 star restaurant in town with a view and spectacular service!! The pool side restaurant for lunch was equally special and the olive oil they serve here is from the olives harvested on the property..the juice from their orange grove etc..it's a magical spot, very romantic and we highly recommend it!!

We just spent three nights at the Vittoria last month. Our room was upgraded to large suite overlooking the Bay of Naples, a spectacular view.
The service was friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, and our room was wonderful.
The hotel site is perfect to explore the beautiful city of Sorrento, we could walk everywhere.
A great choice for a hotel.

Room Tip: get a room with the view of the Bay of Naples

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights of our honeymoon in August 2012 and were not disappointed. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Sorrento and the charm of this historic hotel is undeniable. But what really made it special was the service - from the lovely warm welcome and refreshing drink on arrival, to the cheerful and attentive breakfast staff and the great bar and restaurant staff. We have incredibly fond memories of sitting on our balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples of an evening and just soaking up the atmosphere. The breakfast at the hotel was great - an enormous choice and my husband particularly enjoyed the cooked to order omelettes. The rooms were not enormous, and yes it was expensive but the decor was beautiful and the cleanliness faultless. The food in the restaurant (both the poolside restaurant and the more formal restaurant) was really nice, but we would actually recommend Ristorante O'Canonico - just a short stroll from the hotel gates and our favourite of the whole holiday. Brilliant food and service and a wine list that looks more like the thickness of the Yellow Pages! We returned several times and hope to do so again as we will undoubtedly return to the Amalfi Coast again.

Everything about this property is luxurious-from the graceful entrance to the sumptious breakfast accompanied by a talented pianist! I felt as if I had been dropped onto the set of a 1940s movie, and indeed the hotel has been the setting for movies in the past. All the vanishing touches of an earlier time add a genteel atmosphere to the Excelsior. The card room, reading room, the attentive service, the fresh flowers in your room-they all make one feel especially welcomed and pampered!

Room Tip: We had a corner room which was large and sunny.

The hotel is a destination. We had an ocean front room and it is the only way to go. The Poolside service, the lounge, patio, breakfast venues are grand and service excellence is experienced everywhere you go on the hotel property. Our room was clean and comfortable and we were mesmerized by the view. This hotel is just foot steps to the main Sorrento shopping area and they have an elevator to take you down to the harbour so you can board a ship to Capri or Naples. We stayed here in 2007 but just visited again in September 2012 even though we were on a cruise ship, we longed to spend an afternoon at this special hotel ambience once again. We will return for certain.

Room Tip: Must have waterfront, it is a magnificent view.
