Top notch service... they jump to serve you. Fantastic view, you look right at Pompeii. Room was so so...small. I hear some rooms are great, you should push for a good room.
Location great, right in center of town.
Clean room although very small.
Good food. Breakfast was unbelievable selection and quality.

We would certainly go back to the Excelsior Vittoria, as everything about this hotel was excellent. The grounds are spacious and provide a place to escape from the busy streets of Sorrento. It is right on the cliff above the Marina Piccola, with a private elevator straight down to the ferry docks. The staff was always friendly, gracious and helpful. I really don't understand how this hotel can show as #12 in Sorrento on TripAdvisor, when it should clearly be in the top 5 at the very least. Perhaps it is because of the price, which is expensive, but it is hard to compare a 5 star hotel to a 4 star hotel and use the same measure.
The restaurant near the pool - l'Orangerie - was very good, with very good service and wine selection. Special thanks to Natale, who recommended some wonderful local wines.

My wife and I just had finished staying at 4 star hotels throughout Italy and this was our last 5 nights in Italy. We wanted to stay in Sorrento so our travel agent, Kathi Sheridan, booked us into this 5 star hotel. I really wanted a sea view room with a balcony. The prices here were very high (the most we paid during our stay so I was worried that we would not get a view. However, once again, our travel agent did wonders and we got a sea view room with a huge covered balcony!!!!! While this room was the smallest we had, the view and balcony more than made up for size. The room was very deluxe with excellent amenities. The included breakfast was the best we had on our trip. Besides the standard hot and cold foods, they had someone making omelets and had smoked salmon. We had two dinners at the hotel deluxe restaurant with tables under a terrace facing the sea. The views and food were outstanding. While the service we experienced throughout Italy was great, this was truly 5 star. They even did not charge me for parking (a huge bonus). So with the excellent breakfast and no parking charge, this hotel still was fairly priced. We had two excellent concierges that helped us most of the time, Antonino and Franco. Thanks to them and all of staff. Would definitely recommend staying here! I have many friends who say you don't spend a lot of time in your room; but after a long day running around, it was wonderful sitting on the balcony watching the action in the harbor and the wonderful sunsets!

Room Tip: get a good high end travel agent who does a lot of business with 4/5 star hotels. Always get upgrad...

We stayed here for 12 nights, we had a sea view room in the new building. I cannot really find anything bad to say about this hotel, everything works. The staff here are exceptional, so friendly and helpful. Our room was fabulous, bath robes were supplied along with some flip flops and all the usual toiletries. There was a minibar in the room in which we chilled our own white wine! We spent hours on the balcony just watching the boats in the port come and go, so relaxing. We went half board, the evening menu is spectacular - real gourmet food and a beautiful setting overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Service was impeccable with staff who take the time to chat as well. My husband found the fish and seafood a bit much, but as soon as we mentioned this the chef just cooked other things including a delicious veal dish with mushrooms - please put that one on the menu. Breakfast is in a spectacular room, with soft music, and the choice of foods was incredible, especially the baked goods, they really know how to make a pastry!! If you want a peaceful haven for a restful holiday this is the place for you, the gardens are lovely, the pool is quiet and there is always a sun bed available. The concierge is great, sorted out our trip to Pompeii with no fuss. The only problem is that now I have to go a very strict diet to make up for the gorgeous meals!! Thanks so much to all the staff there, especially Rita the restaurant manager, Luigi the chef and Antonio the waiter with a fantastic sense of humour.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room it is worth every penny

Our visit to Italy's Costa Amalfitana was tricky because there are so many places to visit you get confused as to where to stay or where to simply make day trips. We chose Sorrento-- a lovely spot in the middle of the action with an active city center. A very well-traveled friend led us to the Hilton Sorrento Palace--which did have a great view atop the hills overlooking the bay-- and that's where the charm ended for us. It's probably a great value for families (we saw a lot of them at the breakfast buffet) but the rooms are stark, as is the lobby decor and we checked out after a day and ended up here after reading rave reviews online. We were lucky that the delightful desk manager accommodated us despite being booked. From that moment on it was la Dolce Vita in this 5-star, aristocratic spot which is part of the Leading Hotels of the World and a hub of celebrities since the Fiorentino family opened the opulent palace in 1834. The views of the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius are expansive, the lush gardens and an uber convenient elevator cut into the hill whisks you from the port directly to the hotel. It was welcome relief after de boarding the ferry from Capri one late afternoon. The hotel is set right in the city center so you walk out into restaurants and shops--if you ever want to leave the place. The included breakfast in a majestic room with a pianist lulling you into a feast of gorgeous treats had us lingering every morning. The staff even sent us a gift of wine and fruit to our room and arranged a fabulous dinner in their gourmet rooftop restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This was our home base for day trips to Positano, Capri, Ravello, Mt Vesuvius and so much more and we couldn't wait to put our heads on the down-filled pillows and luxurious bed linens after a long day of touring. Next time we'll book way in advance and look for special promotions which they offer. Ciao..a la prossima!

My wife visited this hotel 34 years ago with her parents, and always wanted to return. We upgraded to a Sea View Deluxe and what a masterstroke it was, I could have sat at that balcony all day watching the harbour comings and goings, the view is just awesome with a backdrop of vesuvius. Perfect for drinking a bottle of champagne watching the sunset.

The room was stunning, huge and very clean, everything that you could expect from a hotel of this quality. Wifi works throughout the hotel, it works and is fast, even poolside.

Breakfast is in one of the most impressive breakfast rooms that you will find anywhere in the world, with a choice to suit all, all with a pianist playing as you eat.

Location.... beat this in Sorrento! walk out of the serenity of the hotel straight into the hustle and bustle of the main square.

This is truly a Grande Dame of hotels everything 5 star and I will have to search very hard to find somewhere to top this. It is not cheap, expect to pay for exclusivity but that is what you get.

I hope that I will return, Thank you to all the staff at Grand Excelsior Vittoria.

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the world... the location is right in the heart of Sorrento but the grounds make you feel like you are tucked away in the country. The rooms are hand painted with simple elegant touches. The pool area has the best restaurant and service with several choices of rose wine. There is even a glassed off area of ruins next to the modern pool (the pool reminds me of a modern roman bath, especially having visited Pompeii the day upon checking in). The front desk woman was a bit snooty but the concierge was friendly and helpful. We loved the elevator in the cliff to drop down to the ferries (to Capri or Amalfi). Swim at the ocean below or by the pool all day and then venture into the bustling streets for dinner and gelato just outside the gates of the hotel. The views are other worldly from the bar/restaurant next to the lobby. I would stay here as long as I could on my next visit.

Room Tip: We had mountain side which is so beautiful to view the gardens and the city... but I am sure the vie...
