“Great Hotel set a little out of town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

The Hilton Sorrento is set up a gentle hill, about a 10 minute stroll to the main shopping area and probably another 10 minutes walk down to nearest marina. On arrival the taxi from train to the hotel, though not far, is a standard €20. We took that option rather than walk with luggage. It's a very large hotel with huge reception / bar areas. The pool area is great - Plenty of sun beds and plenty of swim space due to different levels of pools. Pool side food and drinks expensive to the area but standard for Hilton. We travelled as exec members so were upgraded to exec room facing Vesuvius. Rooms pleasant though safe didn't work ( and is very small). Balcony is quite open to next door so no privacy but nice to say hello to your neighbours!!! You cannot open a door quietly due to design, so when coming in /out of rooms is makes quite a noise which is annoying for anyone trying to sleep. Walls are thin as we heard families with children crying a few doors down and it echoed along the corridor. We heard next doors phone vibrating. That said.. We would still stay here again and hope for considerate neighbours. Executive lounge - breakfast was great. Everything you'd expect. There wasn't a lunch option. Drinks (inc wine/beer) crisps and nuts, are available all day. Snacks 6-8pm - A bit hit and miss. Literally tasty nibbles - pizza bites or similar. Possibly 2 choices but on two occasions only one selection. Staff throughout hotel were polite and helpful.

Let me start off by saying this hotel is gorgeous. The pool is incredible and a great place to cool off. The hotel bar at night is one of the better places to get a drink and relax with incredible views of Mount Vesuvius. When you stop by the bar ask for Giuseppe, he will make you a great drink and treat you well. The breakfast is also quite amazing. It is a typical Italians buffet. Also, if you get sick of the pool and want a change of pace, you can walk to the nice beaches in about 10 or 15 minutes.

Now, let me get to the room. The room was very large considering you are in a European hotel. The wall and the doors are paper thin. Trust me, you will not sleep in this place. The noise starts around 6 am when people start waking up and checking out and will continue all morning. Every time someone opens and closes a door you will wake from a sleep. When people walk down the hall and roll luggage down the hall it sounds as if you are running with the bulls in Spain. The amount of money this place has invested in Italian marble they certainly can invest in a normal door and wall to absorb some of the sound.

Finally, some of the hotel staff were very outgoing and helpful, others were pompous and arrogant. They charge for wifi also and love to nickel and dime you for things. When we checked out we made a 26 cent charge on our bill for a phone call we made to confirm with a driver to pick us up for a day trip. Trust me, I don't care about the 26 cents, its the fact that they actually charge you for it that blows me away. They also charge for wifi. I am pretty sure if the local espresso shop down the road offers free wifi, the Hilton can offer it as well. We tried to print boarding passes in the hotel lobby the night before we left, and were having trouble with the internet and when we asked the hotel staff if there was anything wrong, they acted as if it was user error. Overall, I would never stay here again, because I enjoy more than 6 hours of sleep a night.

After spending ten days in Rome and Florence in nice boutique hotels, the Hilton Sorrento Palace was a great change of pace with a large lobby, FABULOUS Pool and great breakfast buffett. The Staff was also fabulous and went out of their way to make our stay great. Hotel is a 10 minute walk to the main Shopping Area. View from our Balcony was world class. I would absolutely stay here again!!!

Lovely hotel, fantastic pool and gardens, lovely public areas too. The view of Vesuvius is beautiful. Breakfast was excellent, huge choice and good quality. Lunch ok by the pool, but a bit pricey. Just a 15 minute walk into town, far enough out for it to be situated in a quiet area, however, the hotel is quite busy, and the corridors/doors are very noisy, so be prepared. We had trouble sleeping until after midnight, and an afternoon siesta was out of the question! Still a great place to stay though.

We haven't stayed at The Hilton for a few years (we can no longer get a suitable package deal via Manchester) but each time we go to Sorrento we make a point of visiting in the evening. Don't be put off by the title 'Hilton' in terms of sounding like a business hotel. Yes, it is a large hotel for Sorrento but the facilities, particularly the pools are excellent along with its location. Made even better by Salvatore preventing towels being put on sunbeds before 9:00 unless you are sitting there! But, a few weeks ago, we went for a cocktail with 2 friends celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and, by coincidence, they stayed in the hotel 18 years earlier. They were thrilled. It was like a 'welcome home' for us when we walked into the lounge area. The staff remain just fabulous. Gennaro who manages the cocktail bar and his colleague Antonino could not have been friendlier and it is this personal yet very professional touch that makes such a difference. Staff who we last met 4 years ago where just chalming and I would really recommend the hotel, especially for familiies because of the options for food, Internet, entertainment etc. The kids will have a great time and mum and dad will still have the opportunity to relax as we did when our daughter was younger.

Ciao Hilton!

Jacqueline and Mike

We spent a week in June at this fabulous hotel. Our room was on the top executive floor providing us with extra amenities such as a private pool and food/beverage service from morning to late evening. The room was spacious, immaculate, and well appointed. The room provided stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Hotel staff provided great service in a friendly manner. Not only are the grounds beautifully landscaped, but the grow their own produce served in their restaurants. The 3 pool areas each provided a different, but exceptional experience. We loved this hotel and plan to return.

Lovely public areas, great breakfasts, gorgeous gardens. Close to the centre of the city.
This is a really pleasant Hilton in a great location. The main lobby are open and well laid out with good views from the restaurant and terrace. Rooms are compact but well appointed.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the bay
