The hotel was amazing. Restaurants was yummy. Poolside was great. Rooms are very clean. My favorite was happy hour at the bar, the staff there is superb!

Taxis in sorrento cost a lot for the shortest rides (over 10E) and this hotel is up on a hill. So factor that in to the cost. Breakfast room has a stunning panoramic view of the bay of Naples and a good buffet. Restaurant food is good too. Rooms are comfortable though a bit spartan. If they had a free shuttle to the station and downtown this would be almost perfect.

Once you arrive, you will find the lobby huge and fabulous. The kids can run around like crazy in it. We got a family room that has 2 rooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms. We were travelling with an 11 year old and a 4year old and this set up is great Except the the one bathroom had an odor to it that at times was unbearable. We just came from Hilton Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and although the rooms were much smaller than the one in Sorrento, it was very clean. I am not saying that the room we had at Sorrento Palace was dirty but it wasn't superbly clean. They didn't change the sheets everyday, so if you like new sheets daily, you'd better ask them. I didn't even think they cleaned the bathrooms daily, just gave new towels, that's it.
And looking at their fridge with items on it, you will find some bisquits and wine on top of the fridge. At first we thought it was complimentary. But make sure you don't touch it because they are all for sale and nothing was complimentary.

One of the things I was happy about was the breakfast. For 6 nights of stay, we had breakfast everyday. The first couple of days were good but after the 3rd day you will find that everything will be the same for every day you will eat there. BUT don't worry because they have a huge assortment of foods. My kids absolutely loved the nutella crepes that were made for them. My 11 year old was happy to know that the crepe lady already knew him and knew how he liked his crepe done on the 3rd day! One piece of advice, try to not eat everything on the first 2 days or you will easily tire of the buffet. The very best part of the buffet is that every drink you ask is free. You can even ask for cappuccino if you like. I had tea, my husband had cappucino, my kids had hot cocoa, and the buffet had a fresh orange maker where you pick up 2-3 fresh oranges, drop it on the basket and the voila--freshly squeezed orange juice. If the weather is nice try to sit outside where you will have the most incredible view of the whole region.

We walked around the hotel and found that there is a small playground at the back of it amidst all the lemon trees. Lemons are just falling off the trees that I wished I could bring them all back home with me as they are huge!! The pools were also very good. The kids had a blast and one day we decided to stay in the hotel for relaxation, after exhausting days of sightseeing. They have a kids program and they had a very nice Italian girl who entertained the kids while the parents swam or ate by the pool. They had board games, etc or they played water volleyball. Each of the kids were given a Sorrento palace hat at the end of the 2-3 hour kids program. And not to forget, they were also given free snacks while joining it. I had a taste of the snack and it was so good. My kids were pleased.Oh and did I mention these daily programs were FREE??

In terms of location, yes, the reviewers were right. It is far but NOT too far from the city. You can hike down to get to where you want to go--to the train station, or to the city center but expect a little difficulty esp if you have young children. It will take you about 15-20 min. Or you can take longer depending on how fast/slow you are. There are a ton of mopeds and motorcycles and the Italian way is they do not respect you as a pedestrian. They will scare the hell out of you if you are timid about crossing the streets. There is also a bus that will take you to the city or train station. Ask the front desk. You can buy the ticket for 2 euros one way. Pray you don't wait for along time because where you will wait for this bus, cat pee is so strong that I almost could not stand it. It is about a block from the hotel. We bought a return ticket and waited for the bus to show up at the designated stop in the city but 45 minutes later, there was NO bus on sight. Luckily there were a couple of Hilton guests and we just split a taxi ride from there to the hotel. The taxi rides to and from the hotels are SUPER EXPENSIVE. From the city which is a 10 minute ride, was about 18 Euros! Expect to pay anywhere from 15 to 25 euros if you want to use cabs in this city..

In terms of restaurants, on our first night we asked the front desk to recommend some restaurants. They recommended this one restaurant where the guy will pick you up and take you back to the hotel (and btw, most of the restaurants they will recommend will do this service free of charge).. We were picked up, and noticed we were in a house/restaurant. The owner will keep telling you that hi mama made this pasta fresh or this is a homemade limoncello, etc. While we enjoyed it at first, he recommended us dishes that were so expensive (salt crusted sea bass). It turned out that tha one fish was over 40 euros. An hour later we were about 120 euros poorer!! The front desk had recommended another restaurant close by and they would draw the map and make it seem close but if you walked it will be about 20 minute walk!! Always take the free shuttle service. The restaurant btw was not so good and I had a very tasteless risotto and always make sure you don't get sucked in to their recommendations. Italians are very smooth or you will pay the price. Later my husband and I realized all these restaurants they are recommending are really not very good and very expensive, they were probably getting a cut on how many they recommend. They will tell you to stay away from the town restaurants bec they are touristy. The restaurants I enjoyed most are the ones we found ourselve--in town! Check your guidebooks instead of the front desk's recommendations...

I hope you find this review useful. If you are taking the boat ride to Capri btw, do not go on a windy day. We all got very sick and did not enjoy the day in Capri. We had to go back on a nice day just to see the Blue Grotto and the lift to Monte Solare...The Italians will say anything just to get you to pay up so that will be my piece of advice if you are explring the Amalfi region..Enjoy!!

Not easy to find. The GPS has the hotel halfway down the hill. Then you see the sign for the Hilton parking lot (but that's not connected to the hotel). Turn left at the end of the road and the hotel entrance is halfway on the left.

I was travelling with a relative, so we got one of the Quadruple Family rooms. It had two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. Rooms are dated, but the beds were very comfortable. Very bad sound isolation, but this wasn't an issue until the third night when a family with a lot of kids checked into the room above. It appears the vents are directly connected.

Staff was great. We were there during low occupancy (got a very good rate), but the Executive Lounge was closed (I'm HH Diamond). Instead, we got breakfast in the regular dining room (OK) and evening drinks and hors d'ouvres in the lounge/bar area. This worked out quite well for us. BTW, their hot chocolate at the bar was fantastic!

Didn't try the pool(s) but they (5 connected) looked great and were getting use even in October.

Internet pricing was high.

I would recommend passing on this hotel and picking somewhere else to stay in Sorrento. While the lobby has been upgraded, the rooms have not. Hampton Inns have better rooms than this place. The hotel is also not in town, a 15-20 minute walk uphill from town. Staff was nice and friendly but one staffer responded the same way to every request, "I don't know, but perhaps you can tell me when you find out." Room safes are too small to hold much more than a small camera so we had to use the hotel safe and keep checking our electronics in and out each time we needed them. Food in the restaurant was good.

First of all...have to say when we (wife and I, + other friends - married couple our age - mid 30s) walked in the doors, we felt like we finally arrived. Absolutely beautiful hotel. Once you step in, all smiles. They had happy hour from 6-7 and 8:30-9:30...that alone created some good times. Transportation for free to several great restaurants. Donna Sofia was excellent for romantic. Rooms were clean and very nice, stayed in 443. Pretty close to elevator bay, but great views. Views of bay and Mt Vesuvius + mountain side was awesome. Great weather in 1st week of Oct 2009. Customer Service was less than desired from front desk, but Guiseppe, the waiter in main service area, was great (took care of us). Outdoor pool was very cool (literally, not heated) and heated indoor pool was very cool, playing classical music created a cool, relaxing vibe. Shocking that there was no hot tub or spa to take care of the ladies?!? Saw gym, but no way was our group working out (12 ounce curls only).

Other Stuff: DO NOT TAKE TAXIS...extremely expensive. You can walk most of the stuff in Sorrento, but buses are the way to go. Example: Taxi to bus station in Sorrento from Hilton palace for 2 people and 4 bags = 23 Euros. Bus from Sorrento for 1.5 hours to Napoli airport = 20 Euros. You do the math. Still pissed.
Sorrento is one of my favs. Small town feel. Great sights. Easy to get to Capri or Positano, etc. Good shopping. This hotel helped all of that since overall a great experience at the hotel.
