My wife and I have recently returned from our holiday to this hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sorrento and would recommend this hotel and destination. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very helpful at all times, I did think that the twin superior room we booked was a bit on the small side, however it did have everything you would want easily available. The views from the terrace bar speaks for its self it is stunning on a clear day. The hotel runs a shuttle bus down to Sorrento they are OK but if you miss one it’s a 2 hour wait for the next , this is not an easy hotel to walk back to from Sorrento and a taxi is very expensive, so ensure that you are aware of the pickup time and be there on time. Sorrento and the surrounding area has loads of attractions and lots to do, I would recommend a vineyard visit on the slopes of Vesuvius, the wife especially enjoyed this and it cost me a fortune in wine for home.
To sum up a good hotel in a great area I enjoyed my stay so I would recommend it to anyone.

We booked a superior sea view room which was worth every penny as it looked straight across the bay to Naples and Vesuvius. Food was excellent with a good choice every night and the drinks are not as expensive as you might expect. Location is not great though for town/shops as you need to get the hotel coach down (there is a footpath but was closed all week despite being only a 2 day job) so you are restricted by times or you will be stuck in Sorrento for 2 hours waiting for the next bus up. My only gripe was noise, not from outside but from inside - there are no carpets so sound just echoes everywhere and you can hear footsteps, things being wheeled round, chairs scraping etc and as they prep breakfast from 4am you may get an early awakening which is annoying

Room Tip: Get a sea view as otherwise you will sit upstaits buying drinks just to apprciate it - much better from your own balcony

I have stayed at this hotel twice. Once when a Thomson platinum hotel (which its going back to) and once as a Thomson Gold hotel. Couldn't fault the place - only let down was we didn't get a room with a view on the second visit as 3 of of us in a room and hotel full. There are plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the view though so not a major let down.

Food was great - was worried about eating in the hotel every night as when in Italy, want to try out local restaurants, but needn't have worried. There isn't any other choice nearby and you'd have to get a taxi or be restricted by the bus.

The walk to town is fine - I have walked both ways but depends how fit you are - travelling with 2 70yr olds they made it down fine but we didn't attempt walk back up. When travelling with my friend (in our 30s) we made the trip both ways fine. But the bus runs very frequently anyway, more so during the day.

Didn't use the pool as it was freezing (was there in early Oct) but didn't really have time anyway, so weren't fussed.

The only thing I didn't enjoy was the Gold entertainment - there wasn't anything 'wrong' with it but I dont want to holiday in Italy listening to abba and west end show songs.

All in all, would recommend to all.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a room with a view

We have just returned from 10 days at this hotel. In response to other negative reviews we would say don't believe everything you read: the courtesy bus is fantastic, no need to worry about walking up and down the hill - it runs 9 times a day in Oct, very punctual and reliable, with very helpful and amenable driver, he will never leave you stranded - and always returns if on the rare occasion the bus is full. Service - restaurant staff and bar staff are all excellent, very smart, attentive, friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Restaurant food is excellent and plenty of choice (5 starters, main courses and deserts each day) - grand buffet fabulous. Standard rooms are adequate and view is pleasant - those on the bottom floor have a nice tiled yard area to sit in. You are well above the centre and the noisy scooters so this hotel is lovely and peaceful. Obviously sea view rooms deliver just that.

Our only negative points are: the twin beds were very hard - after the first night we asked for it to be made up as a double and for a softer mattress and we got just that - no problem sleeping after that - in fact with the shutters closed we had no concept when it was morning and often overslept it was that quiet and comfy. As we were on a Thomson holiday, we didn't get much local advice off the Reps, which is understandable, but you don't need to go on their tours everything can be done by yourself - however beware - people fight to get on the local buses and the trains aren't fit to transport animals. The Thomson 'entertainment' is questionable - they try hard but it is not for everyone. The resident pianist is excellent.

As others have said the views are superb, from the restaurant, the pool area, the show bar the roof terrace and of course the sea view rooms. There are plenty of places to sit and relax at any time of the day or evening - you never need to spend time in your room.

Charges - the safe and sun loungers are free. Use of the fridge is 5 euros a day as expensive full mini bar is provided, internet is 3 euros for 30 mins or 25 euros a week - we didn't bother! Contents of the mini bar are checked regularly throughout the day and topped up. Half board guests pay for drinks with dinner - E3:50 bottle of water, E15 bottle of wine, E4.50ish orange juice, beer etc. Similar prices to Sorrento restaurants and bars.

Sites to see: We would recommend Positano - get an all day bus ticket (E7.20) and get on at the bus terminus near the train station (beware of queue jumpers). Ravello is also a lovely dramatic place to see - get the bus to Amalfi and change to the SITA bus to Ravello - must see Vila Rufelo. Pompei of course is a must - be prepared to spend a long time there if you want to see as much as you can - we have spent 2 x 4 hours and still have not seen it all!

Room Tip: You won't want to spend much time in your room so it doesn't matter. There are many places to sit and enjoy the fantastic views.
