Grand Hotel President

This was our first visit to this hotel and Sorrento and we were not dissappointed. We had a good room with a balcony with marvellous views overlooking Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. We took advice from previous reviews and paid extra for this. as some of the rooms are situated at the rear of the hotel, with nothing much to look at. This was well worth it in my opinion although there are wonderful views from the rooftop sun lounge and the dining area. The food was excellant and the waiters were very friendly and attentive. We would certainly recommend this hotel to our friends, but gentlmen be warned trousers must be worn for dinner, which is fine, but it was not mentioned in the brochure. The courtesy bus in our opinion could run more frequently.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a room with a view.

The only Hotel we have ever revisited!! We were there four years ago, which was our second visit to Sorrento........just back from a fabulous week, and agree totally with all the other rave revues.

The friendly atmosphere during our stay, along with the superb staff meant a very happy holiday.

In house entertainment of various types of musical forms each night was an added bonus...........music for every taste!!

Room Tip: Facing the sea is a must.............views are breathtaking!!!

As many other reviews have stated this hotel does have wonderful views over Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius. We had a superior room with balcony and sea views, marred slightly by being positioned over the swimming pool. There is a constant sound, day and night, of water recirculating into the pool. Some people wouldn’t be bothered by this but it does sound like a toilet cistern filling up! The other half of the hotel with sea views are positioned over the gardens and are more peaceful and relaxing. The inward facing rooms on the opposite side of the hotel are much cheaper and face the no through road where the shuttle bus parks up. Perfectly OK if you are on a budget and you only have a short walk to the rooftop sun lounge or dining areas to get the views.
We booked a double room but were given a twin. It was a nice room with classy furniture and a good shower although it did leave a large puddle on the floor from a leaking shower screen.
Lovely meals but beware the price of drinks as there are no prices listed in the restaurant and you have no idea what you are signing for until you get the bill at the end of the week.
The Wi-Fi was constantly cutting out and I had to go 4 times to reception to get a new password to keep my iPad working.
The shuttle bus is too infrequent and it really is impractical for most people to try walking to town on a very steep hill. in a
Nice relaxing hotel, perfect for the middle aged (like myself!) with a few bob to spare!

Room Tip: Sea view room over the gardens are quieter.

Our rooms had a marvellous view of the gardens and Bay of Naples, the staff in the restaurant were extremely attentive and the food was excellent and served with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff were very good and very friendly. The roof top terrace had magnificent views across the Bay ideal for relaxing with a cool drink during the day or in the evening. Our only complaint was the lounge area did not have very comfortable sofas for relaxing they were modern plastic and a bit hard. There was a shuttle bus into town centre throughout the day which was very handy and kept to a strict timetable. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Request balcony with sea views a definite must.

Have just spent our 22nd year at this hotel and it never fails. Staff throughout the hotel are excellent, reception cannot do enough for you, Food is of a high standard and once again the staff in the dinning room are excellent, the bar staff cater for all your drink needs and snacks. There is also a bar and light lunch service by the pool which has a wide choice of food. The hotel is set high above Sorrento so the views are amazing and something to be seen to be believed.

Room Tip: Try to book superior sea views as these rooms have views to die for.

Facilities good, although watch out for lots additional costs. Cot wasn't included in room- an additional €10 per night. In addition, we found another child's soother under the pillow.(yuck). Additional charge of €5 per night if want to keep babys milk in minibar fridge. On top of this, for at least half our stay, there was no child seat in restaurant and we had to feed toddler in her pram. Not ideal. One waiter in partic was very good with our daughter. Other than that, we definitely felt that kids weren't welcome.

The major debate in these reviews is around the location, so let me give you my (hopefully balanced opinion). The location being out of town means that you get more space and a wonderful view whereas to get the same space in the centre of town would cost a lot more. The Capadimonte is a better hotel, has the views, is much easier to get to but costs a lot more. The shuttle bus times are not good for anybody other than an Italian who wants to eat in the hotel. There are no buses from 12.15 to 16.00 into town and then none again from 17.30 to 21.00. The lastbus back is 23.00 which for me was fine! Taxis are unbelievably 30 Euros each way, if you thought London cabs were bad then watch the meters in these boys spin. That leaves walking and public transport. Your view of the walk will depend on your age and fitness. I am 50 and reasonably fit and my wife is younger and fitter! We found the walk in easy but it's not very easy in anything other than sensible shoes as it is steep and cobbled. The walk back was hard for me and for some people would definitely be impossible, even twenty year olds will be out of breath. You can walk the long way round but it's much longer and more dangerous. What doesn't get discussed much is public transport, there are buses in and out of town outside the hotel and these run throughout the day so they fill in the gaps left by the shuttle bus. You need to get the timetable for buses to/from Priora. Tickets are €2.40 one way and can be bought all over town.

In terms of the rest of the review, I would say that you should invest in a Superior Room with a Sea View, our room and view was wonderful but some of the rooms face inwards and you will be treated to a view of the Shuttle Bus! The staff are really friendly and attentive. The public areas are very nice and our room was very modern within a modern bathroom and a white LCD tv on the wall. Our bed looked out over the bay of Naples and we had a nice balcony with two chairs and a table. All in all, a very nice hotel but they could really remove any negatives by running the shuttle bus more often.

Room Tip: Lower numbers are higher up. The sea view rooms on the first floor are very nice but go for a highe...
