My wife and I have just returned from our holiday at the President booking a superior sea view room from 20-30 Sept with Citalia which cost £3,389, this did include a private transfer from the airport. Their idea of a superior sea view is not what we expected, although we did have a good view of the town and a dilapidated block of flats with a side sea view, The bathroom facilities also did not work and we therefore asked to see other rooms, eventually we chose a room with improved views although mostly side sea views and a bathroom where most of the facilities worked except the extractor fan and when having a shower your feet were covered in water since the water did not drain away properly. Having booked with the Italian specialists we expected better however we shall know when booking further holidays in Italy. Hence be aware when booking a superior sea view with Citalia at this hotel, Speaking with other guests Thomson seemed a better option, at least they saw their representative who was highly regarded. After the above comments the President is generally a good hotel with good food and wine options, excellent staff and excellent views from the roof terrace, yes it is a distance from the town centre which can be walked safely on a side path although a regular bus service is provided from the hotel. Would I return to Sorrento most definitely, would I return to the President not without exhausting other hotels nearer the town centre, although I must say we had a great holiday and Sorrento is a good destination to explore the Amalfi coast.

Room Tip: Superior sea view rooms are better if you can get one, be careful when booking with Citalia since ou...

A fabulous hotel but very old fashioned ,it is the Italian style, all the staff where fantastic and very helpful , food was wonderful but watch your bill if you put everything extra during your stay on your room bill as it soon adds up !! Altogether a fab stay and would defo recommend this hotel for a very relaxing hols as there is nothing to do in the eves so early to bed early to rise as they say as you have loads of trips to choice from in the day and they are all very well organized

We stayed at the Grand President as part of our half board Sorrrento holiday in September 2013.

The hotel was excellent. The food was superb with plenty of options available. The wine list was good, with our favourite Mount Vesuvius rose at a very reasonable 15euros (Most resturants in Liverpool want £16 to £22 a bottle). The lunch meals at the pool bar again were priced reasonable with a selection of toasties, pizzas, salads etc.

We stayed in a Superior Room on the third floor which was very spacious with a flat screen tv and english speaking channels such as Sky Cinema (Italian Sky), Sky News, Fox News, Nat Geo as well as other none english speaking channels.
The view was of a wall with vegetation so we did not use the balcony at all. The rooms above would have a view of the car park but get more sunlight in the evening so you could enjoy the balcony more.
Be mindful of the tiled floors. A woman next door must have had high heels welded to her feet because of the tap, tap, tap, tap from her room whist going to bed done my head in. Ear plugs saved the day.
We would have booked a room with a sea view but we did not feel it was worth another £300ish per couple on top of the £840 we had already paid with Thomson Holidays.
The view from the relaxation area with green cushioned sofas and sun beds was amazing so we enjoyed time there having drinks and chilling out.
The pool was fine although a little cold with sunbeds in the area.
Didnt use the spa but the prices were quite good with 50% off your second treatment.

The room was cleaned every day and a free to use Safe. The mini bar was well stocked but we did not use it and you cannot store your own drinks inside unless you want to be charged 5 euros per day. You can store outside of the fridge and consume within your room but not at the pool or other areas. If medical items are required to be stored then this will be ok after informing the reception staff.

The hotel staff were all polite, helpful and seemed to really appreciate the poor effort of Italian we spoke. The shuttle bus was prompt and ran plenty of times to and from Sorrento centre from 8.30am till 11.30pm with a break between 1pm and 3.15pm. The journey time was around 10mins.

We would certainly stay here again. Very close by shuttle to Sorrento but without the traffic noise. No beeping mopeds or taxis. We never felt we were out of the way because of the regular shuttle bus.
Great food, excellent rooms, great service.

Room Tip: If you feel its worth it, the sea view rooms had an excellent view. But we never once wished we had...

The hotel is a loooong way from the main town, quite an adventure finding it, seemed impossible to reach by walk.
The only positives are the view (breathtaking, especially by night, if you book a sea-view room) and the private parking. The rest … is literally old: the staff, the building, the plumming, the bathtub, the furniture. But if you have a car and the right company, might be the perfect holliday!

Spent a week at the Grand President from sept 16th to 23rd to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Couldn't have picked a better hotel. Booked a sea view room, but the views from any of the public parts of the hotel are awesome.
Floors in the hotel are in reverse order.
Level 5 is the base level and has 6 rooms, although the views from here are obscured by trees. This level also has a fitness room of 3 cardio machines and 1 weight machine. There is also a room with a large TV and a half size snooker table.... I assume the balls can be rented out from reception.
Level 4 has the spa and is also the swimming pool level. We had room 405 which meant just jumping over the wall to get to our sunbeds.
Level 3 is rooms only, bear in mind hat some superior rooms do not have a sea view and just overlook the carpark and entrance.
Level 2 is the restaurant. Breakfast is buffet style and evening meal is a 3 course waiter service. Head waiter is superb and would always try and get us an outside table. Breakfast is 7 to 10am. Evening meal is 7 to 9, felt it would have been better if it went on to 10pm. Level 2 also has the brilliant sun terrace. The pool would tend to be in shadow by mid afternoon, whereas sun terrace had the sun all day, coupled with awesome views across Sorrento and Vesuvius in the background.
Level 1 is the reception and the piano bar, which has plenty of seating inside and out, with again the awesome views across the Bay.
Level 0 has another outside terrace and what they call the solarium. I imagine this is where the host weddings, otherwise it was where Thomson had their welcome meeting. Thomson rep Sandra was excellent, make sure you attend the welcome walkabout. Sandra will show you the main sites in Sorrento, plus you sample ice cream, limoncello, cocktails and white wine.
Didn't do any of the Thomson trips as they were fully booked on line beforehand. Nevertheless we still did Pompeii. Trains every half hour and only cost €2, €11 entrance to Pompeii and an audio for €5. Also did Capri, thoroughly recommend it .... 25 min ferry trip for €34 return.
My only negative is the timing of the shuttle bus. Albeit an excellent service, if you missed the 5.15pm next shuttle was 7.30!! With dinner starting at 7, you can see why I think it should be a 10 finish. Although there is a path down from the hotel, which we didn't attempt until the last day. Leisurely stroll down took only 20 mins even stopping to take photos of the views. Path comes out between the Bristol and Capodimonte Hotels. Walk back up took about 25 mins.
Altogether an awesome hotel, awesome food, made some awesome friends and have I mentioned the awesome views.

Room Tip: Definitely book a sea view, the higher the better.

came to this hotel in Sept for one week with my friend. If I had one word to describe the hotel it would be 'impressive'. I had high expectations before I arrived and the hotel managed to exceed them still!
During our time, we stayed in the superior room with a sea view, it did cost a fair bit more but worth it. Beds were comfortable, and the room was clean, fresh, spacious and the view was fantastic! Waking up in the morning to see the view of Mt Vesuvius and the town of Sorrento below was just beautiful, it took my breath away!
The location couldn't of been better, as the views were stunning from all areas of the hotel (at the bar, roof terrace, restaurant and pool area ). If you wanted to leave the hotel to have stretch your legs in the town of Sorrento, you can get the hotel shuttle bus from the main entrance (which operate via a reasonable time-table) or if you want you can take a walk down the hill. I personally didn't walk down due to the amount of scooters using the path rather on the down, but the option is there. I felt very safe with Tony driving the shuttle bus.
The breakfast buffet was huge and with lots of choice, from fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheese, and hot food, the choice seemed endless! Main meals could be picked from a 3-course menu (but you also had a choice of a pre-starter), these meals very filling were done to an excellent standard. It was impossible to sample everything as the menu changed on a daily basis.
I can't fault any of the staff as the standard of service they gave was excellent. The head waiter and the waiter Giovanni made us laugh. Its was nice to see the staff happy and work well together. Also the helpfulness and the friendliness of both the head receptionist and the night receptionist Francesco was absolutely wonderful!
The pool area was nice, and kept clean and tidy. However, the pool was quite cold with ample of room. There is also WiFi available throughout the hotel.

It is very easy to see why guests return back to the GH President, and I too will defiantly return to this amazing hotel (hopefully in the not-so-far future). Its been the most superb holiday and wonderful break away!

Room Tip: Book a sea-view room (and ask to be high up) it is more costly but well worth it! Drinks can be co...
