“An opulent hotel with fantastic views and service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

This splendid hotel is situated in its own grounds, with spacious lawns, walkways and pool, and outside bar and dining facilities.
The rooms enjoy great views over the Bay of Naples as does the restaurant.
The rooms are of a very high standard, even with controls by the bed to adjust the wooden window shutters whilst in bed.
The breakfast buffet is extensive and offers food of a superb standard, both hot and cold, sweet and savoury.
Although in its own grounds, away from the hubbub of the town centre, it is a mere 10 minute stroll to the main street and the bus station (from which day tours depart) is only 5 minutes walk away.
All staff are friendly and supremely polite. In the morning, every member of staff you come across wishes you "good morning" (in Italian, of course!).
The hotel just runs effortlessly and smoothly, like a well oiled machine. It is a true pleasure to stay there!

We arrived at the hotel after getting off a horrible tour. What a treat! Everything was first class. Do not know why it is a 4 star, should be a 5 star! We stayed a 2 other 4 stars on this trip but none were in the class of this hotel. Located on the cliff it had some great views.
We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed for three nights in October on our first trip to Sorrento. Although this hotel was more traditional than we are used to it was very well presented, very clean and the hotel rooms were very spacious and very nicely decorated. there were additional blankets in the wardrobe and basic toiletries were provided. the only downside was when it came to upgrading to a sea view, we were charged a staggering 80 euros a night (apparently reduced from 120!) and the balcony was exceptionally small (two chairs and a table filled the whole area). however the views were very good and the wardrobe space was very generous. there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. the grounds were very pleasant and well kept, the pool was small but adequate (although I am not sure whether you would be able to get round the pool in the summer due to the limited sun bed area. There is an additional sunbathing area in the form of a jetty at the bottom of the hotel but this did not get the sun until the afternoon. the breakfast is fairly good, be advised that there is hot food but it is hidden in the 'outside' area of the dining room (we only knew because we spotted condiments on a table near to the door so we went exploring - no one pointed it out to us). We had two very nice lunches around the terrace area where the views are stunning. We did not eat in the restaurant at night but the standard of food and variety looked good. We had to vacate our room by 11am and even out of season there was apparently no availability for late check out (but at a further 70 euros we were quite relieved!) however, the staff keep an eye on your bags and, you are allowed to use the hotel facilities until you leave. The staff were all very pleasant, one or two of the waiters were extremely friendly and nothing was a problem for them. The hotel was in a very good position and only about a five minute walk away from buses and trains - we came by bus from the airport and found it very easy to find the hotel. All in all I think the basic rooms are very good value for money - I am not so sure that the sea view waranted an extra 80 euros a night though!

We stayed here last August and fell in love with the amazing terraces and views, when my now husband proposed at the beginning of this year I knew straight away that I wanted our wedding in Italy and our reception at this hotel. It was amazing, along with our 28 family and friends we had the the most fantastic time, it was magical. Giuseppe, the wedding coordinator was so helpful, from my many emails before we arrived in Italy, before and on the day itself everything was how we wanted it to be and more. The staff are all so helpful, the food was delicious, the lemon wedding cake was out of this world. The 2 mandolin players during the day added that extra italian touch and had all my guests up dancing by the end of the meal. We had our night time reception outside and after watching the sun set we settled on the terrace with a live singer and lots of tea lights around, it was spectacular. My husband and I stayed for a week and I couldn't fault this hotel one bit. The only thing I would recommend is you request a Sea View room, if not a noisy roadside room is what you will get. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for a wedding.

Room Tip: A sea view room is nightly recommended, the road side rooms are quite noisy from all the cars and mo...

The property is really lovely, far enough from the crowds of Piazza Tasso, and my husband and I had a great room, large and stately, with unbeatable views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The physical property is breathtaking and serene, with lots of lovely gardens, and a quiet beach. Perfect for a relaxing vacation. However, the problem we had with this hotel was that it was not the most welcoming and hospitable to a gay couple. Every morning when we went to breakfast, we were pretty much ignored by the staff. Straight couples were eagerly greeted with a hearty bon giorno and promptly escorted to tables with a smile. We were ignored most days and seated ourselves. Because of this, we chose not to take any of our meals at the hotel, or spend additional euros for their special offers. In all fairness, the front desk was very helpful. The friendliest person that we encountered at the hotel was the chambermaid who always had a kind greeting for us. Due to a sense of uneasiness towards us evident in this hotel, and Sorrento in general, this may not be the most comfortable place for gay travelers.

Dear Guests,
Many thanks for posting your kind feedback following your recent stay with us.
We have appreciated all your positive comments on the hotel as the location, the great service, the nice decoration and so on..
We were disappointed to read that you felt that the Restaurant Staff did not, on this occasion, deliver the standard of excellence that so many of our customers have experienced previously; we will check on this.
We hope you will change your mind and that you’ll come back again to visit us, the way to give us the possibility to show you the real essence of the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori.
Kind regards

Me and my wife stayed for 14 nights for are honeymoon. The hotel, it's staff, the location was amazing. We will 100% be staying again. Highly recommended and well worth the money. The food is first class, with great service. The alcohol is slightly expensive but when you are having a drink on the gorgeous terrace overlooking the sea you have to realise why it's expensive. The evening music, live by a singer and piano are first class. Buy far are most enjoyable holiday.
