Just returned from a 5 nite stay, and cannot say enough positive about the Bellevue Syrene. Our room (307) was a deluxe sea view, and it was gorgeous with a large patio overlooking the sea and Mt Vesuvius. The staff was superb. The concierge snack bar provided continuous complimentary food and drink all day til 9PM. The decor was modern classic which gave the feel of updated grandeur. The location is tucked away from the main Sorrento center but only 2 blocks away, never had trouble walking to/from shopping and restaurants. No complaints!

We stayed for 4 days at the Bellevue Syrene. The hotel sits on the edge of cliff overlooking the ocean below - amazing views. The design of the hotel is unique - combines old 1800s bones with funky style. Feels like something Phillipe Stark might do (don't know who designer was)... lot's of great art => Dali Room had 10 lithographs / monoprints and great lighting. The hotel is in a U-shape around a central court where free wine drinks and snacks are served almost all day long. There are lots of common spaces - multiple rooms - each a unique design in terms of art, furniture and lighting. Many common decks / restaurant space as well = all with great views (get the idea).

Since it's an old hotel the rooms vary a great deal. The best rooms in general are on floors +1 or +2 (4th + 5th floor from the bottom). The lobby is on "0". The +1 and +2 floors have much higher ceilings and are away from the possible noise on lower floors (if there is a wedding/ event etc.). Avoid the -1 and -2 floors. I actually stayed in Room 607 on the +3 floor => the room was ~400 sq. ft+ - with separate sitting area, desk and 2 decks, very nice shower, but no tub. The floors are tile - with unqiue design. Lots of art, books and knick-knacks decorate the room - they have a thing for bird cages here - don't know why. The room decks on the lower floors have better views because they have railings instead of a solid half wall toward the ocean. The 3rd floor also has much lower ceilings - so stay there only if you have a large room. The king bed was actually 2 singles pushed together - the "European King". A room safe was available with key lock instead of combination. There was a 20+ inch LCD TV - with 5+ news channels in english, however, no movie channels in english. Excellent housekeeping => the towels were plush, however, sheets felt kind of coarse - weird.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. The spread is okay - lots of breads / croissants + fruit, eggs (too runny), wierd sausage, fresh juices. You can actually order off a limited menu - so that's probaby the better option (Still free). Service is great.

The "beach" is actually a wood platform built over rocks 5 floors down on the ocean (accessable by elevator or stairs). Limited beverages + snacks on the platform, however, many other platforms and restaurants are in the immediate area - and you can walk or swim over to them. The real beach is not impressive - in the middle of the dockworks - protected by rock walls with lots of kids and umbrellas... but the views and sun are great. There is NO swimming pool at the hotel.

The staff are solid, but it's not quite Four Seasons capabilities in terms of restaurant reccomendations, travel etc. Nevertheless, helpful and friendly. The Business Center is one computer at about 1 Euro a minute - so relax and don't work.

Sorrento can be quite busy during the tourist season but the beauty of staying at the Bellevue Syrene is that it is just far away enough from the hub bub of the central plaza. The hotel is simply beautiful.

*Rooms* I would definitely recommend a sea view room because it feels so amazing to wake up and hear the waves and watch the fishing boats. When booking a seaview room, I recommend getting a room with a balcony and avoid the seaview rooms on the top floor because they have very high walls that partially block the view.

*Club Lounge* The Club Lounge is a nice treat - they serve complimentary drinks and snacks all day in the terrace and in the indoor seating lounge. Not that we sat on the terrace drinking prosecco all day but I felt it was a very nice touch.

*SPA* The spa facilities could improve. They only have one lady performing services - she was very good but the overall facility lacks sophistication.

*Private Beach* We didn't go to the private beach because it's not really a beach! They built a large sundeck and set up a bunch of deck chairs and umbrellas.

After alot of research on hotels in Sorrento we could not be happier with our choice to stay at the Bellvue Syrene! The hotel is beautiful, rooms were well appointed and the view from the ocean view rooms is breathtaking. Staff was very accomodating - they arranged our transport to and from airport as well as helped us book a private car and driver for a wonderful and scenic tour of the Amalfi coast.
Breakfast was good and the Club Lounge is a perfect extra to have included with your stay. Free soft drinks, wine, beer and snacks throughout the day!
The private sundeck was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun.
If you are looking for a beautiful hotel with picturesque views and top notch service I would definitely say that the Bellevue Syrene is the perfect choice!!

Sorrento was our second stop in Italy for our honeymoon. My husband picked such a wonderful hotel - Bellevue is romantic, beautiful and charming. We absolutely LOVED our stay here. They upgraded us to the biggest suite at the hotel and it was a struggle sometimes to leave the room! The view from the hotel is amazing. The staff is wonderful and the service was superb. They offered free drinks and antipasti in their lounge area, everyday! Their buffet breakfast was so delicious! The private beach area was gorgeous and the gentleman who works down there was absolutely wonderful. The beach area is very nice...perfect setting for a honeymoon. Bellevue Syrene made our honeymoon unforgettable! I highly recommend!

We just got married (July 2009) and had our wedding reception in the Bellevue Syrene, we couldn't have asked for anymore. We stayed for 6 nights in the hotel, with our wedding on the 3rd night. Everything about the hotel was perfect and this maed our reception all the better. The bedroom was superb, on the top floor, with an amzing view of the volcano and bay of Sorrento, the room was very clean and they provided a turn down service in the evening, and the bed was HUGE. The bathroom was the biggest bathroom I have ever seen, and all very clean. Breakfasts and lunches are also very good, with a great choice. But what made it memorable for us, was the effort and work that went into or reception evening, the food was fantastic, as was the wine, cake and staff. I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone, for a short stay or fo a wedding reception, and anything in between. Its one of the best.

Overall one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed in.

Location

Sat on top of a cliff in the middle of Sorrento about 5 miutes walk from the main square (Piazza Tasso). A lift takes you to the sea where the hotel has a sun deck with steps into the sea. From the lift it is about a 5 minute walk to the port to catch a ferry to Capri/Positano etc.

A 10 minute walk from the hotel (15 minutes back up the hill!) is the small bay of Marina Grande with some nice fish restaurants (eg Da Emilia and Di'Ntonio Mare).

Rooms

Very varied. All have amazing views of the Bay of Naples and are decorated in light bright colours (lilac etc). The most basic rooms have showers only, no cupboards but big beds, and otherwise well appointed.

Restaurants

Breakfast in served in an indoor restaurant. Excellent choice of cooked and cold food with eggs cooked to order and great selection of rolls and bread. Lunch and Dinner in the outdoor restaurant (in summer) overlooking the Bay. Also the Club Lounge/room for all guests has free soft drinks/wine/beer/coffee etc all day (10am -10pm) with small selection of snacks that change throughout the day.

Amenities

No swimming pool but the sun deck is open 8.30am - 5.30pm with sun loungers and free towels. A small hut provides drinks but no food. Free internet in the Club Lounge. Fast wi fi in the rooms provided by swisscom with varied charging plans.

Parking is €25 per day but worth it as there is nowhere near to park.

Staff

Extremely helpful reception staff. Allowed very late check out and had all the information that you could want on timetables, restaurants, routes etc

Gripes

Would struggle to say that there were any but may be the lack of cupboards and no toilet by the sun deck.
