We stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento in late April for a week and just loved the accommodations. We had two rooms, one of which was handicap accessible. We initially encountered a problem when a wheelchair for one of our party would not fit through the bathroom door but the staff quickly solved this for us by providing a narrower wheelchair to use in the room. The rooms were reminiscent of a time gone by but were still very modern and spacious. The bathrooms were large. Free Wi Fi was available in each room. Each room had a nice balcony -- ours were overlooking the street side and not the bay side, but still nice to sit on. The grounds were beautiful and the terrace had a stunning view of Mt. Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. There was also a nice size outdoor pool available although it was still a little cool for swimming when we were there. A large breakfast buffet was served in one of the dining rooms each morning and included lots of pastries, yogurt, cereal, bread/toast, beverages, fresh fruit and usually three warm breakfast foods such as bacon, eggs, or fried potatoes. Also, there was a scrumptious homemade orange marmalade available each morning. The hotel is conveniently located with the train station only a few minutes walk away and the central area of Sorrento about a 10 minutes walk. Parking is available for a fee. The staff were very helpful and service was great. This was a wonderful place to stay in Sorrento and I would definitely try to stay there again should I ever return to Sorrento.

We are here for a week and have been bowled over by this classic Riviera style hotel. The location and view are magnificent with beautifull gardens. Our room on the fifth floor has a stunning view over the Bay of Naples and is spacious, modern and well maintained with a large bathroom. You can be assured of a high standard of cleanliness. The staff have been very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide variety of food to chose from.

Some reviews have remarked that the food is expensive; well it is not bargain basement but what would you expect from a 4 star hotel? It is not in my option overpriced for the standard but the quality is very good indeed and the elegant dining room has a beautiful view. The wine list is reasonable priced with a selection of local wines many at under 20 euros a bottle- try buying wine at a 4 star in London and you will understand what I mean.

We will be sorry to leave. This is a terrific place to stay. My only niggle is the wifi can be a bit slow but then this is a holiday and perhaps wifi should be banned!

Some families were staying here and the little ones seemed well catered for but this is not Disney World it is a relaxing resort hotel for enjoying the breath taking views and easy life. The station to Pompeii is only a five minute walk as is the town square.

Yes we will return. The hotel could be rated almost 5 star.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a sea view. Enjoy the gardens and beach facilities Probably not worth hir...

My husband and I returned to this hotel after staying there 28 yrs ago as we had enjoyed it so much. It certainly lived up to our expectations and even better! A most beautiful italiano hotel. We had a fabulous room on the sixth floor with a veranda overlooking the Bay of Naples and marino picola....an exceptional panoramnic view...a majestic sunset in the evening ...such magic and tranquility. Beautiful gardens to stroll through & birds singing.
The staff are exceptionally courteous and helpful. A special thanks to Salvatore and his reception team who were very accommodating at all times . Housekeeping staff were of the highest of standards especially Rita! The restaurant food and staff were excellent. The lunch served in the pool area overlooking the bay was a dream to be experienced.
A hotel to be genuinely recommended...location excellent...5 mins walk to Sorrento centre..Piazza Torso...yet located in a lovely quite area.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Bay &pool/garden area

We spent one night here. The hotel is a block from the train station and a couple blocks from the primary shopping streets. This a hotel in the grand tradition. Our room had a view of the bay, Vesuvius and Capri. At night we slept with the windows and curtains open. The breakfast buffet is sumptuous.

Room Tip: As can be expected, the rooms with a bay view come at a premium price. Consider staying in a lower p...

My husband and I recently stayed at the Royal. We were upgraded to a junior suite. The hotel is beautiful and very clean. Very attractive tiles in the halls and rooms. The room was spacious and the bathroom the largest we had in all of our trip in Italy. The dining room is very good- large breakfast buffet. But the best thing is the view. It is right on the Bay of Naples. The hotel's location is ideal- close to the train station but just a short walk outside of the town. You are at a resort type of place rather than a hotel in the middle of Sorrento. I would stay there again and would recommend it to the most discriminating traveler.

Room Tip: A room with a few is a must!!

During our one week in Sorrento, we spent the last three nights at the Grand Hotel Royal. We were a bit sceptic if it was going to be value for money but we turned out to be very pleasantly surprised. It's not the world's top hotel, but we simply couldn't find a negative point (apart from wifi in the room at 5 euro per day - though free in public areas).
It's perfectly located: less than five minutes walking from the main square, a few minutes from the Circumvesuviana train station (the best option for Pompei or Herculaneum) and of course a perfect spot by the sea (up on the cliff but with a "beach" - or better: pier - at sea level that is accessible by elevator.
Staff was friendly and always extremely helpful (and you do need some assistance every now and then when travelling with two toddlers:). It was a pleasure to go to the breakfast room and see people who were service-minded and enjoyed their job (big cheers for the waiter with the moustache!). One evening we had dinner in the restaurant (we had booked on b&b basis) and staff did their best to find us a table where we could receive the signal from our babyphone upstairs.
Breakfast was okay to 4* hotel standards, but not much more than that (selection could have a been a bit more diverse - but let's not complain about this). The dinner was in a nice setting but we were not too overwhelmed by the food (we only had mains), two family members in our travel party did however enjoy the buffet a few days before (on an evening we ordered room service to enjoy on our balcony close to the sleeping / not sleeping kids).
We booked Premier Sea View rooms (at 226 euro per night, non refundable, booked about a month in advance) and were quite happy with the room and the view (two one of the two rooms' view was a bit obstructed by the trees - we had our rooms on the first floor). The 18 euro per babycot per night was probably a bit exaggerated but of course there was no other choice.
It is a nice domain really close to the centre with the sea, a big swimming pool (with a off-duty hydromassage bath that came in handy as safe pool for our 2,5 years son).
I would definitely recommend this place. As said, we paid 226 euro per night, but this was better value for money than the 3* hotel at 120 euro per night where we spent the first three nights of our stay in Sorrento.

Dear Guests,
We thank you for the precious time you have spent on commenting your last stay at the “Royal” on Tripadvisor. Our location is great, right in the centre of the town but in the meantime really quiet and the guests staying at the "Royal" can relax by the pool, at the hotel beach, in the magnificent garden and feel truly at home, sipping an aperitif at our elegant bar or enjoying a romantic "a la carte dinner" at our terrace with its stunning view.
We can say that our service, facilities and our location is consistent trying to improve and please our guest as best as possible, from our housekeeping to the front desk, concierge and restaurant staff, we go that extra mile to satisfy our guest and making them truly feel like they are at home.
All the members of our staff are so thankful to have mentioned their attitude towards you during your stay.
We really hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon!

Thank you to everyone at the Grand Hotel Royal for making our trip to Sorrento the best holiday we have ever had. We just got back from a 5 day stay, April 29 - May 4 and it couldn't have been more perfect. We loved our room (balcony with full sea view) and enjoyed wine every evening on our balcony while watching the sunset. The bathrobes were the perfect thing to throw on after sunning down at the beach dock every afternoon. We were blessed with perfect weather so they opened the beach on May 1st. I have never seen such a hard working staff. The staff was always busy doing their jobs. The grounds and rooms were kept spotless. There was not a nick of paint off anything. The up keep is impeccable! I was so glad I booked a full 5 days at the Grand, as it was, I had a tear in my eye the morning we had to leave. The only fault is that the Grand Hotel Royal cannot be topped therefore our next holiday could be a bit of a let down. I guess we will have to return...and I can't wait!!
