“Absolutely gorgeous”

My family and I loved this hotel. The location was great....only a 5 minute walk to the main square and also close to the train station and the location where you can pick up SITA buses. The views were amazing. The breakfast was great. The hotel had live music two of the three nights we were there and we also loved that. The rooms were nice and quite roomy.

The Grand Hotel Royal is an amazing hotel. Service is formal, efficient, and friendly. The hotel is a grand gem, classic in style and service. The grounds, the views, and even lunch by the pool are all wonderful. We would highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, beautiful property with a short walk into the busy town center.

Visited Sorrento at the end of August for a friends wedding. Booked via expedia, flew with Easyjet, was charged additional amount for our suitcases (later claimed back from expedia as they had not warned us of this). Booked Seahorse cars for transers from airport to hotel 75 euros each way.

On arrival at hotel we were told there was a problem with our room, this was very diappointing, we had booked a double premier room with seaview, but were taken to a room with 3 single beds facing the street and told we would have to spend one of our 3 night stay there before being moved to a suite. I said that this was not good enough, we had booked a seaview room and as we were only staying 3 nights I didn't want to change rooms. At this point we were taken back to reception and after looking at the computer briefly we were taken to room 501, a lovely seaview room, exactly what we had booked.

This was a relief but made me wonder why we had been taken to the other room in the first place. If I put that to one side the hotel was very nice, well located to walk into Sorrento. The pool area was nice, and we enjoyed lunch by the pool looking down at the bay with boats pulling in and out. There was also a lift through the cliff down to a private jetty area with sunbeds and steps down into the sea - we didn't use this but may have done if we had stayed longer.

Breakfast was ok, my husband particularly enjoyed the made to order omlettes. The room was of a good standard, the view was amazing, one negative was the air conditioning wasn't very effective, and changing the dial to cooler made no difference. The weather was very hot during our stay and I was surprised at how hot it was in the evenings, if I ever go back I would probably chose a slightly cooler time of year. Of an evening we walked into town and chose from the many restaurants and bars - lots of choice, and on the way back we would buy and icecream from one of the icecream shops. Overall it was a good stay, if we ever go back I would stay longer and visit more of the sites.

The location of this hotel is hard to beat on top of the cliffs overlooking the bay of Naples. However several factors let the hotel down. Firstly the dining room used in the evening was indoors with not even a window looking over the wonderful views and the food was definately not up to standard. When you think of Italy you immediately think of wonderful food, not frozen vegetables. The waiters were surly though not rude. Part of the problem was due to all the weddings held there. Three in the week we stayed. Wedding guests seem to take priority and the kitchen staff and waiters obviously cant cope with all the workload. Despite being half board we often went out to eat to taste the real atmosphere of Italy. The bedrooms are good , clean and a good size though the bathrooms need updating and the towels are threadbare. The outside areas are excellent with plenty of terraces to take advanage of the views. However the pool was freezing cold, the sun loungers very old and uncomfortable and again the towels extremely thin. Also it was a shame that all the outside bars closed at 6 o clock. Faded elegance sums up this hotel, I don't want it to change into a new boutique style hotel but it does need some updating.

This was our second trip to this lovely hotel. Last time we stayed in one of the most basic rooms in a ground floor annexe and promised ourselves that we would return and stay in the sea view rooms at some point. The room in the main hotel was lovely very well appointed, spotlessly clean and had the most fantastic views over the bay of Naples.
Whilst we did not dine at the hotel in the evening, (with the exception of the gala night) we ate lunch there almost every day and the pasta and risotto dishes were delicous. Lunch is taken on a little terrace overlooking the bay and is is lovely to sit and watch the boats coming in and out.
Overall I cannot fault the hotel and would love to return again.

This hotel was fantastic. The staff were wonderful and so helpful. The location was trmendous and the views from our room were breathtaking. We were on the top floor, seaside. They have a beautiful pool and private swimming area. The breakfast was also excellent. We stayed one wek and would love to return.

Ive read some reviews about staff not being very attentive, but we found the opposite. They were great always friendly and could not do enough for you. They seemed to think of things you would need before you needed them and would go out of their way to help. You must get a sea view room to make this holiday special. When we arrived at 10.10 pm they had put a tray of food in our room, with wine and bowl of fruit. We opened the balcony doors to a spectalar view and down below live jazz and swing music was being played. It was wonderful. Great location and food was also of a high standard. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
