“Perfect hotel for a celebration: beautiful setting, incredible service, delicious food! Highly recommended.”
Reviewed 31 May 2010

We celebrated our joint 121st (60th & 61st) birthdays at the Grand Royal in early May, with a drinks party on Friday evening and a sit down Gala Dinner on the Saturday for 156 guests. We were on the beautiful terrace overlooking Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples on Friday and for a drink before dinner on Saturday - a gorgeous setting. The food was of an extremely high standard; all four courses were hot and all were absolutely delicious and served to 156 people at the same time. Much better than the catering you get at large functions in London. One friend, who stayed in the area for 10 days, said it was the best meal he’d had in Sorrento. After dinner a brilliant duo played and we danced until 1.00, the bar stayed open until the last person left at about 5.00am.

Our event was a year in the planning and Denise at “Your Friend in Italy” did a great job, helping with the hotel and organising our friends who stayed in Sorrento that weekend. Many stayed in the Grand Royal or their sister hotel, the Ambasciatori and both hotels were highly praised. We stayed at the Grand Royal, our third stay there and, as before, loved it. It’s a very elegant hotel, with friendly staff who work extremely hard. The breakfasts are scrumptious, too. The event planning team, led by the director, Mr. Savarese, were unfailingly constructive and gave us a real sense that they understood us and would try really hard to give us what we wanted. They succeeded beyond our expectations. Charges were fair and very competitive with other places we considered. We can’t speak highly enough of the hotel and the staff and we’d wholeheartedly recommend the Grand Royal for any celebration - be it a wedding, birthday or anniversary. Or just for a wonderful holiday!

I have just come back from a week stay at the Grand Royal which i booked through Citalia. I could not have asked for better service from start to finish the whole process was a joy and at a really reasonable price! The hotel staff were were so friendly, the service was great, clean and tidy, our linen was changed daily, was a bit concerned because it was HB but it turned out I was quite glad to have it as saved a lot of money and food was delicious with different food on the menu everyday. The hotel could not have been in a better location few minutes from Piazza Tasso and the views were great. This is my third time to Sorrento and have been to lots of bars and restaurants, one restaurant that i would recommend is O’Parrucchiano and as for bars there is a new one called Guarracino fruit bar which I was recommended by a local Italian friend. All cocktails were made with the finest fresh fruit, delicious wines and the hospitality was fantastic! Its location was great just off the Piazza Tasso two minutes and I was amazed at the prices as they were so cheap, and it was very refreshing to find a nice local friendly bar with such clean toilets!!!! I went everyday after that first visit. Im going sorrento another two times this year and i know that that is where i will be spending all my evenings!

I stayed at the Grand Royal in May during a client's birthday event. Mr. Savarase was in charge of making sure the events went well...he is first class and went above and beyond! Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a lovely time.
The hotel offers one of the best seaviews in Sorrento! The Reception staff, management and wait staff were very friendly and always helpful. Rooms are immaculate and it's definitely worth the splurge to have a room with seaview..the views are breathtaking! and, even if you dont have a seaview room, you still have plenty of chances to admire the views on the hotel terrace and poolside bar/restaurant.

We thought we would be smart and get the ferry from Naples to Sorrento. This involved getting a bus from the airport to the port to catch the ferry. Our flight was delayed, we waited ages for a bus and then missed the last ferry. Had to get a bus back to the train station and then wait half hour for our train to Sorrento. By the time we arrive at the hotel we were tired and grouchy. Walked in to what I can only describe as a holiday camp tribute night. Keyboard and old english tunes - check , lots of old folk - check. We were horrified!! Went to our room on the 6th floor with full views over Naples bay and Vesuvius - amazing! Things definitely looking up by this point. We did find the whole floor of the room being tiled slightly odd but perhaps that is a tradition for this area? We visited Pompeii - interesting, Capri - beautiful once you get away from the madness of the main town, Positana - not much to do here apart from chill, Amalfi - not my favourite but each to their own and finally Ravello - amazing views and nice walks. Once we did all this we only had a few hours on our departure day to really explore our hotel. It has gorgeous gardens, with terraces looking over the sea. There's also a lift down to a sun bathing area beside the sea which was lovely. We regret now that we rushed around so much and wish we had made more use of the lovely facilities at the hotel. Also have to say that the staff here were fantastic!! The two gentlemen in the bar were friendly and chatty - in fact all the staff were. I have to say that it is possibly the best service I have experienced in a hotel for years!! We went to Sorrento etc to decide whether we should marry there next year. I think the answer is a whopping yes!!

My partner and I stayed in this hotel in May - to celebrate his 80th birthday. As a surprise for him his two sons - one from Bermuda and one from Germany joined us. The Management were A1, the food in the restaurant was first class as were the waiting staff. The rooms were spotless with a great view over the Bay of Naples. We arranged a dinner at the most exclusive restaurant for his birthday - I wish we hadn't the food at the hotel was far better!! Would go back there, a thoroughly first class experience, not one single fault could I find - and I have travelled a great deal. Well done to all the staff and a big thank you. Cynthia

We stayed at this 4 star hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cleanliness was second to none and the reception staff were always willing to help, they organised a half day trip to Pompeii for us which was not too expensive and very interesting.

The food was excellent, you had a varied menu and the waiters/waitresses were always very attentive.

We were also fortunate to see an italian wedding reception in the hotel, and were not disturbed by their function.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in Sorrento.

Lastly a tip if you catch a bus from Sorrento to Amalfi it travels through a town called Positano and the views are simply breathtaking.
