“Second stay!”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

We have stayed here twice and will stay here whenever we return to Sorrento. We have 8 & 11 year old girls and the beach area is amazing! Breakfast is one of the best we've experienced and the room overlooks the sea. Best views, beach, rooms, staff and location. Can't wait to go back!

Recently revisited Sorrento for our second honeymoon and stayed at the Tramontano again in a Junior Suite with a sea view balcony and it was absolutely fantastic.
It has the best view - sun from mid afternoon until sun set. Lovely accommodation. Set in a quiet location with beautiful gardens. Excellent service and the food in ten years is beyond recognition .Always good but this visit was excellent and very good value for the quality in my opinion.
The staff made every effort to make our stay wonderful and memorable - allowing us access to a private 18th century chapel located in the grounds. The only challenge for pool lovers is that it is a little limited for space and beds but we had no problems during our stay.
Cant wait to return to this beautiful part of Sorrento.

Room Tip: Junior Suites give you a balcony and sea view so paying for more expensive rooms not necessary based...

The Imperial Tramontano Hotel is a beautiful hotel with scenic grounds. It is right on the water and the views are picturesque - especially at sunset. We were in a junior suite and the room was large, well appointed and well decorated. Our room included a balcony with a small table and chairs. Everything about the physical property of the hotel itself was first rate. Unfortunately the overall quality of the staff, especially those at the more senior levels, did not match the hotel property. We were very surprised to find the attitude of the more senior staff overall to be quite indifferent bordering on rude and arrogant. There were many examples of this behavior beginning after we checked into our room. We called the front desk to ask what the login and password were for Wi-Fi. They told us they could not give us the code over the phone and we would have to retrieve it at the front desk. When we went down to retrieve the code and password we asked why they didn’t provide the information when we checked in and their response was “well you didn’t ask for it.” This seemed to be the approach many of the staff took during our stay – when you asked the question they felt compelled to answer you but didn’t offer additional assistance in any way. We asked the concierge for a recommendation for a local restaurant for dinner. His reply was “go out the door turn left and on the right you will see restaurants.” When we asked if there were some he would recommend his response was something like – they are all about the same. It seemed to be too much of an effort to be helpful.

The Hotel is built on a cliff over looking the water but no one would tell us how to get down to the water or what amenities were available at the beach. We found out later that the beach and the piers were not run by the hotel but it would have been nice if someone had told us that when we checked in. To be clear it was not the entire staff that was off-putting and indifferent. Some of the staff was quite friendly but they tended to be the more junior staff. Most everyone who was in a senior position seemed to be of the view that guests should be honored to be staying at the hotel and that we should not bother them with questions. We found out later that visiting the piers and beach below the hotel was free if you don’t use anything or sit on anything. To secure a lounge chair you need to pay 9 euros/per person per day. Chairs, umbrellas and tables were also an extra charge. We rented chairs one morning but then opted for the pool (where there is no charge and included towels) for the rest of our stay. It was very quiet around the pool there were no small children when we visited. There was some hotel construction going on and at times it was quite loud. As mentioned earlier the junior staff was pretty friendly and accommodating. The night desk manager did direct us quite easily to a local supermarket and was quite helpful.

We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but did eat from the breakfast buffet in the morning. The variety was good and quality of the food was what one would expect at a hotel buffet -- which means just average.

We had a particularly disturbing incident in the breakfast room. Our son left his sunglasses on the table. When we went back to retrieve them we were told by the headwaiter that they were found and taken to the front desk. The front desk said they never received them. When we went back to the restaurant the headwaiter changed his story and said he had removed the sunglasses from our table and placed them on another table and apparently someone else had stolen them. This is unfortunately not the first incident of “theft” that was reported at the hotel. We had read that another guest had posted to Tripadvisor that cash was taken from a wallet that was not secured in the safe.

While we understand the ultimate responsibility for the theft was our son who left his sunglasses on the table, we were quite surprised that the changing stories and the general attitude of the staff regarding the theft. The people we spoke to on the hotel staff (management) seems indifferent to the occurrence theft. Their attitude seemed to be “this happens from time to time.” We checked back a few times to see if the sunglasses had been found but we incurred the same attitude that we were somehow bothering them by asking. We would not return to this hotel based on this fact.

It is very unfortunate that the level of service at the Imperial Tramontano Hotel does not match the grandeur of this beautiful property.

Room Tip: The water views are quite nice but don't make up for the poor service.

Imperial Hotel Tramontano is in a great location, next to and in walking distance to many shops, restaurants and piazzas. We had a junior suite with a sea view. Amazing!! View of Sorrento, the beaches below, Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Sea view definitely worth it. Spacious bedroom, separate small office, separate sitting area, jacuzzi tub/shower. Just wonderful. We enjoyed the pool and beach. Breakfast buffet was one of the best we had in Italy. You can have lunch in the restaurant inside and at the terrace outside by the pool. Dinner was also excellent. After touring all day and coming back tired, we ordered room service a couple of times. It is a bit pricey but the food was delicious and bought to the room within a very reasonable amount of time. Staff was very nice and attentive. Every time we asked for something, they came through with flying colors. We are planning to return to Sorrento sometime soon, we are planning to stay here again.

Room Tip: If you have a love/hate relationship with bugs (as I do), definitely use bug spray everyday. Not on...

This hotel is in the perfect location for visiting the Amalfi coast. It has a lift down to the promenade which is a short walk to the ferries taking you to Positano Capri etc.Our room was on the corner of the 4th floor and had terrific views albeit the room was small but Luigi (the brilliant manager) explained it was an historic building and we had the best room in this category (suites are bigger).
The reception staff were so helpful and as we were leaving the Hotel at 6.30pm gave us a room to shower and change before we left.
The only downfall is the breakfast. The fresh fruit salad consisted of 2 types of melon and a bowl of cherries (both bowls were constantly empty)when items ran out which they did frequently it took ages for replacements to come (sometimes they didnt) by which time we had given up. The coffee was insipid. There was a large table full of cakes if you like that sort of thing for breakfast.
It was so disappointing because the breakfast or lack of it would put me off going back to this otherwise fantastic Hotel.

Room Tip: choose room 406 it is a corner room on the toop floor with fabulous views and sun all day

I stayed here during a recent trip to Italy with my mom and sister. This hotel is in a great location in Sorrento. Right in the center of town very close to great restaurants and shops. The service at this hotel isn't great. To get a few ice cubes for a drink I had to ask several people and then finally received them in a plastic bag. Not a young and bustling hotel. The pool was a nice touch.
