Imperial Hotel Tramontano
Ranked #36 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Certificate of Excellence

We have just spent a week at the Tramontano and it was absolutely fantastic. We were upgraded as it was our anniversary (we got married in Sorrento 3 years ago in Cloisters) and given a suite - it was fantastic with views over the bay, our balcony had sun chairs as well as a table with chairs. Breakfast was absolutely lovely with all you could wish for - the views whilst eating is the view we had all the week from our balcony - the bay! I would recommended this hotel as the best we've stayed in whilst in Sorrento - we've been 3 times now and would definitely return.

Beautiful hotel, particularly for a special occasion, Fabulous restaurant, great service, breathtaking view from restaurant and bar balcony, especially at night. We had a lovely room, chosen by the Bride, with large corner balcony and garden view. Very central to everything in Sorrento.
On the down side, the hot water flow to the hand basin in the bathroom could be improved.
All-in-all, can't wait to go back!

We stayed at this hotel in September. As other write ups we can confirm the rooms are small and have inadequate storage space. We had a sea view with a very small French Balcony with great views of Versuvius. Staff were curtious and pleasant. One down side if you have a car it is 13 euros to park at the hotel per day.
The hotel itself is OK, nicely placed for the town centre.Thats the problem. Sorrento is like a posh Blackpool, totally overcrowded, tacky and noisy. The food/drink in the town is extremely expensise (5 euro for a beer, 11 euro for a simple plate of spagetti) and is not of a very high quality. We did not like it at all.
On the plus side the scenery around the Almalfi coast is spectacular and must not be missed.Herculanium was very interesting and can be reached by the local train service between Sorrento and Naples as can Pompeii.
Would I go back, probably not. You can get a lot more for your money in better hotels and with scenery just as nice within Europe for a fraction of the price.

Great location, and views with very helpful staff.
We had junior seaview suite. Room tired with poor bathroom.
Bed so hard as to be orthopaedic
Poor breakfast finished too early at 10! No fresh OJ. Pop music radio played at breakfast very loudly!
Lift to beach( which very expensive @ Euro25 for 2 per day) non operative between 2.30 and 4.30 and after 6.30, just when you need it.
Room service only operates during very short restaurant opening hours - just when you don't need it.
1 internet station available in very hot cupboard in reception
Hotel seems to be run for convenience of staff not guests

We stayed at the IHT for 10 days and had an excellent time. Rooms were good (not the biggest but that was our choice), pool was great, inhouse restaurant was outstanding (but the lunch area is disappoint and very expensive).

It's just a few mins walk into town but pretty quiet despite this. Note that a new hotel is being built oppoisite it at the moment but even the noise from this was not a major issue.

Simple to get into town, to the train station adn down to the port/marina's.

Highly recommended.

We happened upon the Imperial Hotel Tramontano by chance. We had a leased car, exploring Italy and chose it on a whim simply out of being weary. Our room was superb but the view over the Bay of Naples was even better. The front desk staff were incredible - truly an example for all the hospitality industry.

The hotel has an old world elegance, beautiful gardens and a great location just steps from the square.

Well where can I start with this fantastsic hotel, first of all location, it is right in the middle of town but away form the bustle and noise and only five minutes away from the bars and restaurants. The hotel and the rooms are spotless, the rooms are cleaned every day and are equipped with air con, a safe, a fridge, and a TV. We had a twin room and there was enough space for both myself and my wife. The pool is clean and there are plenty of sun beds and a snack bar. We stayed on a B&B basis and breakfast was excellent with a good choice of everything. My only complaint about the hotel will come now in that there was no fresh fruit juice served for breakfast, they served some synthetic muck that is mixed with water. I found this surprising considering the amount fruit trees there were around the place. One more thing about breakfast is that they serve Italian breakfast coffee in the morning which is very very strong. It is supposed to be mixed 50:50 with the hot milk it is served with. The amount of people I saw trying to drink it black or with little milk and then grimacing was quite hilarious. If you eat in the hotel it is quite expensive as is the rest of Sorrento, budget at least 50-70 euros per couple per day for lunch and dinner. Most of the restaurants are excellent, but I will warn everyone to stay away from Parrucchianos as they are rip off merchants (mean portion sizes and expensive).
I recommend:
Pizzeria Aurora
Gelateria Davide
The Fauno bar for drinks
La Lanterna
The red lion
Mannequin Pis (for cheap lunch or dinner)
Ristorante Sorrento
I will warn everyone now if you go on the tours organised by the tour reps you will be overcharged and you will be bounced around very tight roads on a coach. If you get travel sick do not go. We found it much easier and cheaper to go by public transport. Speaking of trips Capri is a big rip off we, by all means go and see the sights but we had 2 pints of beer at the grand cafe in Capri town price £14!!!!!!! If you do go make sure you go up mount solara on the ski lift well worth it. Amalfi is lovely as is Positano, Ravello is another rip off place and is dead boring, do not bother with it. Make sure you see Herculaneum and Pompei.
