“Special Holiday for my special Mum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

Wow, what a fabulous Hotel ! If I'm ever lucky enough to go back to Sorrento I can't think of staying anywhere but here ! The location is perfect, overlooking Sorrento, the Bay of Naples and looking out to Mount Vesuvius. I'd e-mailed the hotel beforehand to ask if they could give us a nice room as we were there to celebrate my Mum's "special" birthday. They couldn't have been nicer. We got a fabulous room with a view we'd never tire of......photos of that view taken daily lol. The staff were so courteous, pleasant & friendly, couldn't do enough for you. The food was beautiful, always an excellent menu.
Top Tip.........if going in April DON'T go in the pool........bit's of me were numb (bits that should NEVER be that numb!) Freezing is an understatement.
Thanks to all at the Bristol Hotel. Loved every minute of it !

My wife and I spent a week here during our honeymoon. The junior suite we stayed in was magnificent, very spacious and comfortable with stunning views of the bay of Naples, Vesuvius and Sorrento below. The staff we always cheerful, friendly and helpful. Any requests made of them were instantly accommodated with a smile. An excellent hotel and an excellent experience.

Just back from our Honeymoon of 11 nights at the Bristol. What can I say other than we couldn't have booked a better hotel!! From the moment we arrived the Service was outstanding - particularly from the gentlemen in the Restaurant. We have never experienced Service as good in any other hotel. They were all so well mannered.

We had room 601 and the view was outstanding. Room was cleaned every day and standard of cleaning was very good. Our balcony was also a great size and was kitted out with table and 2 chairs, as well as 2 very comfortable sun loungers.

We had booked half board and I must admit before we went I was a bit worried about what I would be able to eat, as I am quite fussy! I shouldn't have worried though as the food was fantastic. Great selection for breakfast and my hubbie tried every egg on the menu! At dinner the menu was changed daily - there was a choice of 5 or 6 meals, and if none of these took your fancy there were also another 5 choices that are always available. This was for both the starter and main. Desserts were outstanding!!! If I had any feedback on the food for the hotel it would be that the starters were too big! Honestly we have never eaten as much food in our whole lives and the worst thing for our waistlines was that it was so tasty we forced ourselves to eat it all!!!! lol

Pool area was great - plenty of loungers available and the views of the bay were simply breath taking. There was also a very relaxed feel to the hotel which was perfect for our Honeymoon. It seemed to be really for older couples and couples on Honeymoon and we loved this.

Hotel was a 5-10 min walk away from the main square in Sorrento and this is where we went every night. Would highly recommend Fauno Bar, Bar Syrenuse and Bar Del Carmine - on a Thurs night Bar Carmine have a girl singing and she is amazing! So many people stopped outside and stood listening to her! For Gelato try Primavera...so much choice and only in Sorrento will you see people dandering about eating gelato at 1am in the morning!!!

We went on 2 trips through Thomson. Pompeii for a half day (36 euro each and then 11 euro each entrance fee to Pompeii) - we both loved this and to be honest I could have spent the whole day there. We also went to Capri on a day and night Cruise (125 euro each) - this was a bit more expensive but well worth it. You get the boat to Capri which takes 25 mins, then get on another smaller boat for a tour round the island. After that there was free time to spend in Capri and after doing a bit of window shopping (it's very expensive!!!!), we made our way to the square and sat in a bar people watching which I loved as the people were so stylish!!

All in all an amazing holiday - best hotel and Sorrento itself is fab!

Room Tip: We picked a room on a top floor and there was no noise at night. Another food tip - if you like y...

This was are third visit to Italy in 3 years & again it didn't disappoint. We had a room on the fifth floor with stunning views from our Balcony of Sorrento. We emailed the hotel about a week before departure & asked for a room as high as possible. The room was large well fitted out & well decorated. I think the bathroom could do with a better shower & we couldn't get any hot water on our early departure day but these are just minor things. The aircon was great.

We had a 2 week stay, half board & the food at breakfast & dinner was just excellent. The staff were so attentive & would always try to get you a table with the view of the bay below.

The bar on an evening has a small outside terrace of tables again with magnificent views of Sorrento below & beyond. I think the hotel should utilise the outside area immediately below the pool as a relaxing bar area on an evening, it has nice comfortable seating & a good place to relax & unwind after the days travels, but sadly this is only used during the day.

The pool is nice & uncrowded & you could always find a spot regardless of the time of day.

There is a snack bar next to the pool where you could order a limited but excellent choice of sandwiches, hot rolls & drinks all reasonably priced.

I think if you are looking for a relatively quiet hotel with excellent dining & staff, breathtaking views, good pool area with somewhere to unwind on those days when you are not out sightseeing, this hotel would meet all those needs.

Out & about.....

We didn't go on the organised trips that were offered by the tour operator, instead we used the train to Pompeii & Herculean just about €13 for the 2 of us return plus entrance fees to the sites, this meant we were free to spend as long as we wanted there & it was about €150 cheaper!
There is an excellent little cafe/restaurant immediately outside the entrance to Pompeii all freshly cooked & reasonable cost..try it!

We also got the fast boat from the harbour to Capri & this is worth a visit if only to say you've been there!

Possetano by boat is really well worth seeing & we were able to spend several hours (& euros) here. You can catch the mini - cruise boat back instead of the hydro & this is well worth it as it hugs the coastline on a leisurely cruise back.

We decided to go to Amalfi on the one day when there were no sailings due to the rough seas (big mistake) We caught a bus with hundreds of other tourists & it was a nightmare. The bus was absolutely jammed packed, standing up for most of the 2 hours it took to get there up the winding switch back roads. I would definitely avoid this form of transport even when the boats are sailing, you have been warned!!

On our last day having looked down on the Marina Grande from our balcony for the best part of two weeks,we decided to walk there that evening, It has some really nice fish restaurants run by a co-operative of local fisherman & I would recommend you change your evening meal at the hotel for lunch instead & give one of these restaurants a try, but don't rely on the bus to get you back as ours didn't turn up!

Overall, a great holiday Sorrento has some stunning views & the Bristol Hotel was excellent in every way....but my favourite Italian experience is still Tauramino in Sicily.

Room Tip: Try & ask for a room on a high floor

The Hotel Bristol is situated above the town and is a reasonable stroll uphill. We saw people with walking sticks & even in a disability scooter managing it.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean, the gardens & swimming pool area were very well cared for and beautiful to sit in and look at the views of the town and fishing harbour. The food was delicious with a good range of options and the buffet breakfast was amazing.

The staff, mostly long-serving, were excellent and we have never encountered such attentive care.

We used local train to visit Herculaneum which was very easy, comfortable & cheap. We did not have time to visit Pompeii. We also took the bus in order to see the coast road but were somewhat dismayed when all passengers were told to get off in Positano and await the next one in order to travel to Amalfi. It arrived full of passengers and thus two bus loads travelled on to Amalfi which could have been difficult if one was elderly. Next time we will ensure that the bus goes through to Amalfi if we wish to return there. We took the boat back to Sorrento which was terrific.

We also took the ferry to Capri and hired a taxi for an island tour which was not cheap but worth every euro as we travelled in Paulo's 1950's Fiat President car which is magnificent.

Being music lovers with strong interests in many genres we would have preferred not to have 'entertainment' each evening in the bar but one or two musicians like Professoror Salvatore(?) who was very good unlike the 'vocalists' who sadly were not to our taste but then that is a personal opinion & may not be shared by others. We could have gone out or back to our lovely room of course.

A number of our fellow guests have returned to this hotel year on year and we now plan to go back as often as we can as it was a wonderful week's holiday.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor as we understand that one could experience some road noise.

We stayed at The Bristol beginning of June and had a wonderful week.

The hotel is immaculately clean throughout. Our room was on the 2nd floor which I wasn't very happy about initially as I knew it was going to be noisy, but it was fine once the door was shut. Anyway the hustle and bustle going on below is what gives this place it's great atmosphere. The moped riders are nuts!

The food was outstanding in the restaurant, but not a lot of choice in the pool bar. Lovely pool area and a great walk further up the back in their beautiful gardens and lemon groves.

What makes The Bristol such a wonderful place to stay are the lovely staff....and oh that view, we never got tired of it!

Thank you Hotel Bristol for such a wonderful stay.

We were very disappointed that the hotel reception were quite rude when we asked permission as advised by the hotel manual for visitors to our room on our wedding day for the brides, bridesmaids and flower girls hairs etc to be done. We were advised that we could have one person visit our room on the wedding day which made it very difficult to arrange getting ready on our wedding day. Our wedding planner spent nearly an hour pleading with the hotel owner to reconsider he finally allowed two visitors to our room but I wasn't allowed to have my bridesmaid and flower girls to get ready in our room. They did call the room on the day and send sparkling wine and flowers to the room but that was too little too late for me! On the positive notes the food was very good and the restaurant staff were amazing and very helpful, I would have scored service a 5 if it wasn't for the rude and unhelpful reception staff! Our room was a junior suite with a terrace which had great views and was very roomy. So to sum up our stay I wouldn't advise to stay here for your wedding but if it's just a holiday I would recommend tho it's quite an expensive hotel.
