“Perfect hotel in a perfect resort!”
Reviewed 2 August 2009

What a great hotel! All the staff from porters, maids, waiters and receptionists were so helpful - nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely room with a huge terrace and outstanding views across the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Plenty of room to relax around the sun-drenched pool or in the shaded terraces and gardens. We did not eat in the hotel of an evening (there are so many great restaurants in Sorrento), but we heard only good comments and the breakfast fayre was plentiful and varied. Hope to return next year and highly recommend the Hotel Bristol.

This was our first time in Sorrento although we have been many times to Tuscany. Usually we stay in self catering villas so this was something different for us. We paid a supplement to ensure we had a larger room with a view of the bay and were not disappointed with the room or the view, which is quite stunning. The hotel balconies do front onto a main road but with the doors closed at night the noise was minimal so this is not a problem. Staff were always very friendly and helpful at reception, in the bar and the restaurant. As for the food -the standard was excellent. Plenty of choice for breakfast, all self service so you can eat what you like. Dinner was typically Italian fare with lots of pasta, risotto etc and then the main/meat course with vegetable and potatoes. A previous review stated the portions were small, well this is not so if you have normal sized appetite! We have eaten in many very good restaurants throughout Tuscany over the past eight years and the hotel food compares very favourably. We ate lunch a couple of times during the week and prices are similar to the restaurants in the town. We feel the hotel really made our holiday, location was important to us as we wanted to have a view and being up on the hill above Sorrento meant we got whatever breeze was going. Overall a great hotel and we plan to return at some time in the future.

Just returned from our honeymoon staying in the Villa Bianca suite 325. We booked direct with the hotel and Ercole was a dream to deal with answering all emails, and there were many, promptly. Great haircut too!!

The villa is on top of the hotel, up 60 steps, which you're warned about when booking but boy is it worth the climb, the views across the Bay of Naples are breathtaking. There are 5 villas, set in mature gardens amid lemon groves. A word of advice buy local repellent, there are bitey insects!

325 is set a little apart from the others, so is a little more private. You have your own front gate, which can be locked, a jacuzzi, hammock, loungers and parasol table and chairs. Inside is a four poster bed, old style furniture in keeping with the room and a big bathroom with separate bath and shower. The all important air con was very well used!

We stayed b+b, the breakfast has plenty of choice, including the way you want your eggs done. We ate both lunch and dinner on a couple of occasions and found the food excellent and wine lovely. It's a cashless hotel so any extras are put against your room number to be paid on check-out. They'll print off a statement so you can keep an eye on your bill.

The hotel is set on a busy road but up in the villas it's another world. It's a 10 min stroll into Sorrento and the footpath is a little narrow in places but it's not a major problem and the views from this hotel makes it so worthwhile.

All the staff were very friendly, helpful and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs, everyone greeted us with huge smiles and attempted to teach us our villa number in Italian, we failed miserably!

I would recommend this hotel to others but would say that a view is a must. Thanks to all the staff, especially at reception and in the restaurant. I was sorry to leave.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 weeks at The Bristol at the beginning of July. We had high expectations based on the star rating as well as reviews we'd read. We'd paid a substantial price for the holiday and didn't want to be disappointed.

The transfer from the airport by coach was around 2 hours. The hotel is situated on a busy road but overlooks the bay of Naples with fabulous views. If you want a room with a view I'd suggest paying the supplement as otherwise you will probably be facing the gardens or rock face.

We arrived around 11pm, and as we had missed dinner, a cold plate had been placed in our room. We were located on the 8th floor which was around 8 minutes' walk and 2 lift rides plus stairs, away from reception. The room was an ok size with a traditional style bathroom and a good sized balcony with 2 chairs and a table. From what I understand, the hotel bathrooms in Italy are all fairly standard in their decor and it's more a traditional style rather than truly old fashioned. It was immaculately clean throughout. Take your own hair dryer as the one in the bathroom is really poor. If you want to sit on the balcony of an evening, it's not possible after dark as there are no lights on the balcony. We got some candles one night from the little shop across the road, so this is another option. There are so many bars in Sorrento that you may not want to sit at the hotel, but it's worth noting if you're paying for a balcony, you can't easily use it of an evening unless you want to sit in the dark.

We were disturbed most mornings by a number of things - the cleaner banging around in the corridor or the room next door, people banging their bedroom doors, or by the toilet being flushed in a neighbouring room. At around 6.30pm-7pm most evenings, we couldn't use the shower as the water pressure was so bad...must have been down to other people using the showers in their rooms too.

Breakfast is served in the main dining room with excellent views. The waiting staff were excellent, friendly and always pleased to see us. It's a buffet with toast, pastries, meats, cereal and fruit. You can have eggs cooked to order.

We sometimes swapped dinner (we were on half board) for lunch so that we could eat out in the town. Lunch on this basis is two courses and is served on the roof terrace between 12noon and 3pm. The menu on the lunch swap was the same every time.

Dinner was a disappointment. The menu consisted mainly of large pasta / risotto starters then a meat/fish option for the main course. It wasn't excellent quality and we felt let down by this. Desserts were ok and the selection was good. The ice cream was very nice. The dinner menu is posted outside the dining room in the late evening for the following day, so you know in advance and can therefore swap to lunch if you feel like it.

The pool and sunbathing areas are good. On the area around the pool there is very little shade and absolutely no umbrellas, so unless you get under one of the trees early, you'll struggle to stay out of the direct sun if you want to. The terrace below here is lovely and has lots of shade with a mix of chairs and sunbeds. Towels can be hired for 1.50euro per day.

The staff were excellent as was the service.

The views are wonderful.

The hotel needs to improve its food offering and update its decor - the walls of the corridors are lined with rugs and oil paintings as well as mahogony cabinets / furniture. I suppose it's down to taste. The hotel is traditional, not modern. If they offered a B&B basis, that would help as having no choice on a meal option is restrictive.

The walk into main square is around 15 minutes. The edge of town is 5 minutes away. Some of the pavement is rather thin, so it's single file only.

Just stayed 6 nights in Bristol Hotel in Sorrento.
The location of the hotel is stunning, we had a room on the 9th floor and enjoyed uninterrupted views of Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and Sorrento town from our balcony.
The hotel was beautiful, staff exceptional and so helpful with any aspect of our stay. We stayed B & B and the buffet breakfast was very substantial and lunch and dinner excellent (we ate in hotel one night and had lunch also two days). Sorrento town is so pretty with it's narrow streets and refreshingly very few of the usual tacky shops. Great shoe, bag, clothes shops and every restaraunt was good. You could eat a main course from €8 to €80 Euro there.
Would definitely return to this hotel and area .

Just returned from a week at the Bristol Hotel in Sorrento. We selected the hotel based on the overwhelming positive feedback on trip advisor. Unfortunately for us we were allocated a very small room on the ninth floor with no balcony, terrace or view. The room desperately needed modernisation with only one available power socket and a very old fashioned bathroom with a narrow bath which was difficult to stand in whilst showering. In addition for some reason the plumbing noises from the adjacent room seemed to be amplified such that a flush of their toilet was loud enough to wake you in the morning. Overall the room was of a standard you would expect in a 2 star hotel and as such was very disappointing.

On the positive side the location of the hotel was excellent and the views over the bay spectacular. The choice of food in the restaurant was good and the staff were very polite and attentive.

Sorrento is a wonderful place to visit but in hindsight I wish we had chosen another hotel.

We booked our 8 days at the hotel directly with them, as it was very much a last minute decision to go to Sorrento. We were lucky enough to stay in the Villa Bianca suites which are located directly above the main body of the hotel. Ours was fantastic - two bedrooms, bathroom and the most amazing terrace with outdoor jacuzzi - the view was to die for! As an additional bonus in the outdoor area there were a couple of hotplates and a fridge - a real luxury just being able to pull together some simple pasta and enjoy it in such a lovely setting.

We stayed on a b&b basis but ate lunch a couple of times at the hotel (pizza and pasta both v good and prices compared v favourably to those in town) and had dinner once. In terms of portion size we certainly wouldn't complain about the structure of the meals - starter portion of pasta or risotto was main course sized in England. Main courses were simply framed in the way that Italians tend to eat.

All the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful. The restaurant staff, particularly the head waiters, made a huge fuss of our 8 year old daughter. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and seemed genuinely concerned to do everything they could to ensure that we had a good stay.

In short would absolutely recommend this hotel - and believe me, I have high standards!
