“Good Choice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2010

I've stayed there previously and,as before, was not disappointed. Short walk into the center(20 minutes to the Circumvesuvianna) and I prefer the views from the Bristol in that they entail both the water and the bluffs of Sorrento. Parking and breakfast was included. And the grounds of the hotel include nice pool areas for both adults and children as well as a number of common areas for lounging about. As an American I enjoyed the breakfast which included eggs fried, poached or scrambled. I also like the option of sipping caffe latte by my mixing the coffee and the hot milk as opposed to just bringing me a cup. Staff was professional and helpful. My pet peeves apply to most Italian 4 star hotels in the areas of lack of free wireless in the rooms(free wireless did exist in the common areas) and the English language tv stations being SKY and BBC. They are terrible stations(IMHO)! The room had a safe, always a welcome amenity.

We had an absolute awesome stay at the Hotel Bristol. The location was perfect for Sorrento. A 5 minute walk to the town which made the hotel quiet and peaceful when enjoying the beautiful gardens and panoramic pool which overlooks into the sea. I felt so spoiled the entire time. The staff is beyond excellent. Salvatore was the guy at the front desk who would always be ready to give suggestions or directions on where to go for the day. The postcard or Sorrento is actually the view we had from our balcony each morning. So you know how spectacular that must have been if they are selling this postcard throughout Sorrento. The breakfast in the morning included champagne, eggs, salmon, fruit, crepes ect. We went for our 25th anniversary and will definitely go back. We had the best time ever and the hotel Bristol surpassed my expectations. Unlike the other hotels in Sorrento this hotel has a lot of areas to relax in the gardens and around the grounds if you really want to be by yourself with a good book. I highly recommend...Lynne from Chapel Hill, NC USA

We stayed at Hotel Bristol with Thomsons. We chose it on the basis of the Tripadvisor reviews and their own website and we thoroughly enjoyed our week. The hotel is large and a bit of a 'rabbit warren' as it has various corridors of rooms springing off from the main ones, presumably evolved as the hotel is built into the cliff. We were on the 9th floor and had a balcony overlooking the bay and Vesuvius. It was just warm enough to sit out in October. The beds were comfy and the room although quite basic in furnishing was spotlessly clean. Plenty of hot water for relaxing baths too. We had half board- breakfasts were buffet style with a huge choice- fruit juices, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, pancakes, cold cheeses and meats, hot food, bread, pastries- plus eggs to order. The evening meal was 3 courses. The first course was always good- risotto, pasta, soups. The main course was always meat/fish/vegetarian with potato and vegetables of the day. Nice enough but we were a little disappointed there was not a more Italian flair to this course! Dessert was a choice of gateau, fruit, icecream, cheeses etc. The waiters could not have been more pleasant and attentive.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento, and about 15 minutes from the station. Buses pass by every few minutes. We chose to organise our own sight-seeing as don't always want to go at the pace of a larger group and this was very easy. We bought an Artecard from the little shop by the station, which included 3 days of travel in the whole area, and 2 admissions, subsequent ones half price, to a huge range of places. It was 27 Euros- we used it to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum and the archaelogical museum in Naples by train, and for a bus trip down the Amalfi coast. Other days we went up Vesuvius (using the Vesuvius express minibus from Herculaneum station) and to Capri. Ferries are frequent to Capri, and don't bother queuing for bus tickets when there as you can pay on the bus. Axel Munthe's gardens in Ancapri, the chairlift for views and a walk to Villa Jovis recommended.
Sorrento itself is very pleasant- the rep's walkaround is recommended for getting your bearings, and for limoncello and icecream tastings! It was pretty busy in October- I imagine summer could be unbearably so.
Bad points- none that spoilt our holiday. A small niggle was that the hotel refused to serve tap water with evening meals, their reason being that they had had complaints in the past as it had tasted of chlorine. This, combined with the hefty mark-up for wine and beer, meant we had a largish bill to pay at the end of the week.

We stayed in the Bristol Hotel Sorrento in October 2010 for one week. We were so glad we choose this hotel. Its location is superb, just a ten minute walk outside of Sorrento town. We had booked a superior room for three people with a balcony and it was so worth the additonal charge. While there is a main road outside of the hotel, the traffic is not bad. We ended up with two balconies as our room was on the corner of the third floor. One balcony had 2 sunbeds and the other balcony which was more compact had a table and 2 chairs. The view from both was stunning. We had a clear view down over the bay of Sorrento and Sorrento town. We also had a more distant view of Mount Vesuvius and the bay of Naples. In the early morning we had a great view of the cruise ships arriving and again around 6pm when they departed. At night when it got dark Sorrento looked magical with all the twinkling lights. The room itself was the biggest we have ever had in Italy and was well appointed. Beds were very comfortable.
We were on a half board basis. The food was very good. Breakfast consisted of the usual cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruit and lovely fresh orange juice, breads pastries etc. Eggs and bacon was cooked to order . Our only complaint was the coffee/tea was never very hot as it would seem they do not boil the water. Maybe this is the norm in Italy as we have come across this before. Dinner was always lovely with a good choice of starters, mains and desserts. Of course the pasta was absolutely divine. The starter portions were always substantial and the main courses were smaller in contrast., but by the time we had finished all three courses we had plenty to eat. The variety of food at dinner was very good. The staff all over the hotel were very helpful and pleasant. On a humorous note the restaurant manager Matteo was very efficient ensuring that everything was perfect, but I think he found it hard to understand the Irish ways at times. For example the group of people that had travelled with Topflight were very friendly and every night we would all have a few words and a bit of craic as we passed each others tables and I think he found it hard to cope with at times. The dining room is on the 7th floor to take advantage of the stunning views over Sorrento. There are plenty of lounges to relax in and a lovely bar with live music at night. There are also fine outdoor seating areas and a good swimming pool.
Sorrento is a beautiful place to visit. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area. Sorrento town itself had lovely cobbled streets and little shops in the centre of the old town. Pompei is just a half hour away and is well worth a visit. It is a fascinating place. Herculaneum is also nearby. We did not get to see it this time but I believe that is also worth seeing. Capri is magical and just a short ride by ferry/hydrofoil away. Even in October there were crowds of people there and the little village of Ana Capri just above it is beautiful with amazing views. We also did a boat trip around Capri to see some of the caves and it was great. The Amalfi coast has some ot the most stunning scenery in Italy and even though it was raining the day we did it we could still appreciate its beauty.
We hope to return to Sorrento again in the future and will definitely stay at the Bristol again. We met one couple from Manchester who were staying there for the 9th time and another Irish coupe who were on their 3rd stay in the hotel.

We had a junior suite... oh my... it was incredible, beautiful, chic, and clean - what a view!!!! The roof top pool was never too crowded, but we were there mid-September.
Breakfast catered a little too much to the English tourists (bland) but other than that a wonderful place. Dinner was quite good.Guiseppe and Joseph from the dining room - very gracioius.
Hotel staff were outstanding... Antonio, Tony, Ercole, and Salvatore are the best!
Check out Donna Sophia restaurant when you are in Sorrento - great recommendation Tony!

From the moment we entered the hotel we were dealt with efficiently and friendly. We were part of a Top Flight group and they seemed to check everyone in so quickly, with minimum amount of fuss.
The staff in Restaurant are just BRILLIANT. They are so happy and friendly ALL the time and only for them the stay would be just average, but, not so with the staff here our stay was GREAT. The food by the way was excellent - gorgeous, tasty and very well presented every evening. Breakfast were buffet and plenty of everything available and replenished when stocks got low. Waiters kept everything running smoothly there.
The room was nice and roomy, tho the bathroom did not have any air vents and thus the stench from the sink and bath was not good. Pity as it was kept nice and clean during our stay and sheets were changed half way though the week.
The location. Well, that is a story in itself. Hotel is situated on a busy, busy road and you take your life in your hands trying to cross, even though there is a zebra crossing nearby, cars just do not seem to recognise it. Be CAREFUL at all times there. Awful place to have hotels situated. There are a number of hotels on this stretch of road.
Everything is charged to your room and you cannot pay cash or credit card for anything until the end, so dont go daft charging up stuff, it mounts up even after a week.
Lyndsy was our TopFlight Rep and she is just fantastic. So helpful and happy always. Well done Topflight.
On a different note: If you are travelling out of Naples airport, beware there is Passport Control after going through security before you go through the respective Gates and there seems to be a queue there always. Don't get caught in a queue and be tied to time for your flight.

We stayed at the Bristol Hotel on 2 occasions this year. We went there in June for one week and returned in September for another week. This was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Without a doubt this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in.
We would like to thank Salvatore at the Front Desk in particular as we booked our holiday directly and Salvatore was always prompt in replying to our emails and ensuring that everything was booked as requested.

The restaurant staff were always extremely friendly and welcoming, especially Matteo, Giuseppe and Pasquale to name a few. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for any of the staff at this fantastic hotel. It has everything you need. We felt at times that we just wanted to lounge around and take in the breathtaking views and had to push ourselves to do trips. We have stayed here on 5 occasions over the past 4 years so that speaks for itself. We look forward to returning again next year.
THE DYNAMIC DUO
