From the point we arrived at the hotel ay 11:45 pm to find the hotel had a meal waiting for us in the restaurant, everything about the hotel was a pleasant surprise.
Having been fortunate to have previously stayed in some exclusive hotels around the world it was clear that this hotel has set itself some very high standards to maintain. From the appearance of the hotel and its general decor, to the staff, who always have a smile and a genuine desire to help you. On our last day we were given a survey form to add our feedback about the hotel. One section was to nominate a member of staff for their customer service, and we honestly could not single one person out... They were all equally good.

The location of the hotel is stunning and provided some amazing views. Don't be afraid to explore the region on the buses and trains as they provide an excellent platform to see the 'real' Italy! and offer good value when visiting some of the amazing locations.

Room Tip: Recommend balcony room overlooking Sorrento town.

We stayed for three nights. The hotel sits on a hillside a couple of miles outside of Sorrento, and has fabulous views of the coastline. Sorrento is much too touristy, so it's really better to stay out of the frantic city center. The lobby area and restaurant are quite elegant, and there's a nice bar and outdoor pool/sitting area. Parking is free, although it can get a little cramped. Our room was in the annex, which is a couple minutes walk from the main hotel, through a pretty flower garden with lemon and olive trees. The rooms in the main building might be somewhat nicer, but our room was fine and had great views from the verandah. Staff were generally friendly and spoke decent English.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, with about 20 different pastries, and even bacon and eggs (rare for Italian hotels, but probably because this hotel seems to cater to British and German tourists). We had dinner there twice, and it was fine. Nothing really outstanding, but decent selection of food and wine. The hotel has a shuttle bus with a regular schedule down to Sorrento (5 minute ride), so you can have dinner down in Sorrento. But you might spend more money for food which is no better than the hotel's (as we did one night). You can even walk down to Sorrento on an old carriage path.

Overall, we had a nice stay at the Grand Hotel Aminta. The amenities are really good, and it's hard to beat the view. You can sit out on your verandah or the sitting area near the pool, and just relax and enjoy the view.

Room Tip: Well worth it to pay extra for a sea view.

Husband and I spent a week here end of May-We opted for half board and were very glad we did- Had 3 course meal each night with plenty of choice-Breakfast was good-cooked or continental -
Hotel bus ran from 9am to take you into Sorrento -You could also walk down- takes about 15 mins-We had room on 2nd floor with partial sea view-very quiet-
No tea making facilities-Take your own if you like that early morning cup of tea-
We took bus from Naples Airport to Sorrento and back-10 euros each way-departs and drops at Sorrento railway station-About 10 min walk to Lucky Store where hotel bus drops and departs from-
Pompeii easily reached from Sorrento Railway station-We used local buses to take us to Positano and Amalfi-.They were crowded the day we went but it was a national holiday so everyone was out!
Hotel spotlessly clean-Piano player one evening in dining room-He was brilliant-Another night we had a female singer in bar area-also excellent-
Pool looked fine-Too cold for me but husband ventured in-Had it to himself -Comfortable loungers-They charge 1euro 50 I think for pool towels-
Fantastic part of the world and will definately return.Breathtaking views from Hotel .

We got a package for 3 nights with breakfast and dinner included in the price. The deal was great value for money. The hotel is nice, clean and has spectacular views.
From our room's little balcony there was an amazing view of the sea with Naples in the distance.
The price you pay for these views however is being quite far away from Sorrento town and the ocean (too far to walk considering it's very hilly and usually quite hot). Although to compensate for this the hotel runs a regular shuttle that operates quite late into the night (approx. 15 mins each way).
The distance from town isn't a problem if you are hoping to visit Capri, Pompeii or Amalfi, as the hotel has heaps of information about well-priced tours and the staff are very helpful in explaining (in English) how to get where you want to go.
The food was relatively nice, although nothing to write home about. The bar was well-stocked but over-priced (as hotel bars usually are).
If you were hoping to stay out late and enjoy Sorrento's night life I wouldn't recommend this place, as it is quite far away from the centre and late at night it is a bit pricey to get home (as you must take a taxi). However if you were after a more quiet trip and don't mind taking the shuttle it is excellent value for money.
I personally would not stay here again, because I like being close to the beach and staying out late. But I would recommend it to others depending on what they were after.

Room Tip: Ask for a 'sea view' room

The hotel was very elegant and was kept immaculatey clean. We stayed in the seperate garden annexe building that was kept to the same high standard as the main hotel. We had a balcony that overlooked the bay of Sorrento and Vesuvius. The view was wonderful. Rooms in the annexe have a kettle. This is not advertised in the hotel facilities. There is also satellite tv and a computer which are free of charge. There was a mini bar and the prices were reasonable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool, surrounding terrace and bar were exceptionally nice. You could sit around the pool on easy chairs in the evening. The pool bar stayed open until 11:30pm. We sat looking out on the bay and Sorrento which looked gorgeous lit up at night. There were several nights of entertainment. On one night we sat at the pool bar and there was a female singer with a lovely voice who sang popular songs in Spanish, Italian and English. People danced and the evening was great. The hotel provided a shuttle bus service due to its location. The bus always ran to schedule. The first bus ran at 09:00am so you would need to get a taxi if you want to be out earlier than this. However, it is possible to do the 15 minute walk down hill into Sorrento. There is a little winding path that cuts out the main road and leads you into Sorrento. I don't recommend walking back up it unless you are really fit and healthy. Good time management is therefore required to ensure you don't miss the bus back up. The bus runs on the hour (going down) or half past the hour (going up) from 09:00am to 11:30pm. However, there is a time gap when no bus is available. A bus leaves Sorrento at 09:30pm and then the next and last bus is at 11:30pm. This didn't cause us any problems however, it is between 25 and 30 euros in a taxi to get from the centre of Sorrento to the hotel if you miss the bus. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. We note that some reviews have been critical of breakfast saying that the fruit juice was made up from a mix and the fruit was tinned. This is the case so if you hoped for fresh juices and fruit then I suppose you would be disappointed. However, there is a wide selection of bread rolls, jam, marmalade, yogurts, cakes, biscuits, cereals, cheese and cold meat. There were eggs, tomatoes, bacon or ham every morning. The coffe was lovely. Good coffee is a must for me in the morning and my cup was filled regularly. Previous reviews have also mentioned the noise from the road. There is some traffic noise so if you want absolute silence and tranquility then this could be a problem for you. However, I did not find the noise excessive or disturbing and it was very quiet at night. We needed a taxi for the return trip to the airport as our flight left very early. Staff organised this and it arrived on time. It was a standard price of 85 euro. This may seem alot but the journey took over an hour. Bearing in mind that the ten minute journey from Sorrento up to the hotel cost us 25 euro, I think the taxi deal provided by the hotel to and from the airport, is good value.

Our stay at the Aminta could not have been nicer! From the helpful, friendly staff to the beautiful hotel with it's breathtaking views. The shuttle to downtown Sorrento was very welcome as we did not have a car and the taxi service can be a bit pricey. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family who are planning trips to the area.
