We just got back from our stay at Grand Hotel Aminta, and we loved it! Upon arriving they showed us to our room which was in their annex building. We walked by the pool with an amazing view and through the garden past the lemon grove. It was a short and beautiful walk. Although we had booked a standard room, they upgraded our reservation to a room with a small balcony and view of the garden. It was lovely. The room was a good size and very clean. The air conditioning worked well. The beds were a bit hard, but I had expected that from reading previous reviews. I wouldn't say it was an issue. The free Wi-Fi worked well both in the room and around the pool and lounge areas. The pool areas and the view were our favorite parts, we spent a lot of time enjoying these. Sun beds are by reservation at a few Euros/day. There are chairs that you can use at no cost. If you don't reserve a sun bed you can still get a towel from the pool attendant for a small fee. You sign all charges to your room, so no need to carry money around while at the hotel. The hotel overlooks the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, and Sorrento below. It is breathtaking. They had fantastic live music at the outdoor lounge. It was nice to have the option to stay at the hotel for entertainment after a very long day of sightseeing. Regarding the food, the breakfast was pretty standard with a choice of cereals, breads, pastries, yogurt, as well as hot items like eggs, bacon and sausage. It wasn't "great" but it was included in the cost of our stay and the convenience was appreciated. We ate at the hotel restaurant on a Wednesday "gala" night. Again, you will find better food in town, but the convenience and the value was worth it. I do recommend the snack bar for lunch, we had some terrific pizza here. The free shuttle was great, we rode this into town and back most trips. We did walk down the hill into town the first night which was scenic and enjoyable. Coming back would have been more challenging but not impossible. The front desk provided us with a sheet of local transportation options and times upon request. This was incredibly helpful in arranging our visits to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. The service from the front desk, wait staffs, pool attendant, porter, housekeeping, and shuttle driver was wonderful. They were incredibly accommodating and kind. We speak very little Italian, the staff was gracious and helpful. We really loved the Grand Hotel Aminta and consider our time here the highlight of our trip, which also included Rome. I would recommend it to everyone and would not hesitate to return!

Lovely hotel, clean and beautiful lounges. Pool a bit small and paying for sunbeds/towels is just rediculous! Finding a 'free' deck chair wasnt easy. Staff were attentive and thoughtful, nothing too much trouble. The mini bar situation is silly- however, I did use it for water and fruit and wasnt charged! The food at breakfast was excellent but some evening meals were at best OK with main courses poor and not authentic. More fresh ingredients needed. Did enjoy the stay overall and love Sorrento!

Room Tip: A balcony needed!

Lovely views over Sorrento especially in the evening sitting on the terrace.
The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was very comfortable.
We found the hotel's bus to Sorrento convenient and used it every night except the first to go into Sorrento to eat. The hotel breakfast was fine but the evening meal left a lot to be desired. However lunch on the terrace was excellent. If you like Italian food eat in Sorrento at night.
We had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool and bar. The only problem was the noise levels on the nights when there was live entertainment. A room on the other side of the hotel would have been quieter.
I would happily stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you like quiet ask for a room the opposite side to the pool, still a view out to sea but no Sorre...

My wife and I returned to the Aminta this year having spent a wonderful holiday there 5 years ago. We returned because of the experience we had on our first holiday. The hotel is situated a short walk away from Sorrento although there is a handy and regular courtesy bus for the less energetic. It boasts breathtaking views of the beautiful bay of Naples which encompasses Mount Vesuvius and the beautiful islands of Capri and Ischia. The Aminta is one of the cleanest hotels we have visited in Europe and has many rooms with stunning views. The staff are professional and very friendly and the restaurant provides a great variety of fine Italian cuisine. (Guys: Remember to pack long trousers as shorts are not allowed at evening meals). The staff make you feel like a returning friend rather than a customer and were charming throughout our stay. One minor gripe is the daily charge of 4 euros for a sun bed although free deck chairs are available. The hotel is not particularly wheelchair friendly.

Room Tip: Do not get a room on the fifth floor if possible as they are the poorest in the hotel. 3rd and 4th f...

We stayed here for a week in August and chose the hotel after reading rave reviews about the location and food. Understanding that it is situated some distance from the centre of Sorrento, we decided to stay half board and pay the extra for a superior room with a balcony and sea view of the Bay of Naples.
Whilst the room did not fail to deliver - the view was fabulous, especially in the evening, we could enjoy the sun going down over Sorrento and see the town come to life as it was lit up; the food in the restaurant was very poor and the level of service was one of cool indifference.
For a 4* hotel we expected food to be cooked to order, however, we have the very clear feeling that it was prepared well in advance and re-heated prior to serving. We love Italian food - one of the reasons for that is that it is always freshly prepared with the freshest of ingredients - and NOT the tinned peas we were given!! The menu choice was very limited and lacked any imagination, often repeated over the course of the week. Apart from there being pasta on the menu, there was no real taste of Italy - we could have been almost anywhere. The fish was not fresh - the menu stated that it had all been previously frozen - incredible given the location, right on the edge of the sea and so very close to the fishing village. We could see the shops in Sorrento selling plenty of fresh fish, so why were we being served frozen fish?
Breakfast was fairly average but would have been much better if there had been fresh fruit freely available (we discovered on our last day that if you asked, slices of melon could be provided), otherwise tinned peaches and prunes were all there was. On one morning, the cooked breakfast was actually cold.
The mini bar has a note in it stating that it is "forbidden" to put anything in it that has not been bought at the hotel (not very friendly).
The pool was nice to return to after a day sightseeing, but if you want a sunbed you will need to reserve it in advance and pay €4 each per bed per day!!!
Overall, we had a pleasant enough stay, the hotel is very clean and comfortable (apart from the thin flat pillows!) and the views of the Bay and Vesuvius are fabulous, but the food let it down very badly - very definitely not 4*.
We would not recommend the Aminta and if we return to Sorrento, we would chose a hotel nearer the town so that it would be easier to eat out at night, after all, there are plenty to chose from.

We have been to many places but I must tell you that the Grand Hotel Aminta was probably the nicest hotel we have had the privilege to stay at. The hotel is in a great location. The building and the grounds are immaculate and the staff is amazing. The front desk/reception staff was always patient and helpful, The dining room staff always knew who I was and remembered what I get every morning at breakfast, and the rest of the staff was courteous and efficient. The hotel provided free shuttle bus service to the town of Sorrento which has a great day and night life. I have only wonderful things to say about the hotel and I would return to the Grand Hotel Aminta in a heartbeat!!!!!!!

Room Tip: My room faced the bay/coast with a sunrise view. Magnificent!!!

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed at. I just loved this hotel. One of the women at the front desk, gave us a free upgrade and we stayed in a room with a balcony that had an ocean view. The room was nicely decorated. I loved the room. The views from the hotel pool are just beautiful. The lobby is just gorgous. There are couches and chairs outside the lobby that face the beautiful scenery. The breakfast buffet is just wonderful. The maitre'de is so nice and a very classy person. The person who came around with the coffee cart was also very nice and friendly. I had met the lady who does the maid service and she was also very nice and friendly. The hotel had impeccable service. The hotel is extremely classy and clean. Although the hotel is 10 minutes from town, staying at this hotel is worth the free shuttle ride. The views are just magnificient. The ony negatives that I must mention (but I was aware of these negatives from other reviews) are 1) There is a daily charge for the use of the mini-refrigerator in which I felt was not necessary to charge the guests ( we stayed at 3 other hotels in Italy and it was free of charge to use the mini-refrigerator). 2) There was a daily charge to use the pool lounge chairs and towels (although there were free sun chairs to use). We just felt that a charge to use pool towels is tacky and un-necessary, since I have never been charged for pool towels in any other hotel that I ever stayed at. 3) At night, the last bus to leave the town of Sorrento is 11:30pm. It would of been nice if there was a later bus. We always took the 11:30 bus and I must say that the music was extremely loud and the bright lights would be put on. I felt the music should be much lower. 4) Smoking by the hotel should be prohibited, since it is unfair for non-smokers and children to be subjected to cigarette smoke. Since the pool is a public place, there should be another designated smoking area. 5) Some of the people that work at the front desk are not very friendly and can be rude. 6) The pool water is not heated and the water is freezing even in the middle of July. With all that said, I still highly recommend this hotel for it's views, classyness, cleanliness, lobby, rooms, and impeccible breakfast service.
