My wife and i have just returned from a week in Sorrento staying at the Aminta. My wife chose this hotel after reviews from this site and i have to say it was a good hotel with one exception the "villa" we stayed in. The hotel is about two miles out of the main centre of Sorrento on a hill accessed by a windy road. Don't let this put you off as the hotel lay on a regular free bus to take you to and from the centre. You can also walk down an alley that takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get to the centre but it is not lit up so don't go in the dark. I would not advise walking down the main road as there are no pavements and the driving in Italy is best described as scary. If you take a taxi from the hotel we were charged £20 euro's one way.
The hotel was very clean, warm welcome and our bags were taken to our room promptly. We were advised that we were staying in the villa that is a seperate block within the grounds. You have to walk past the pool down a path and along a shared driveway that also leads to someone's house. The villa is a large rectangular building that has a staircase in the middle and rooms on either side. It kind of reminds me of a hostel. The room was basic but clean unfortunately the view was into the living room of the neighbouring house. The main problem is the noise, you can hear the next room doing their business in the bathroom, doors banging, people in the hallway, the whole place seems to echo every sound. It doesn't help that the dog's in the area seem to come alive at night constantly barking and the air conditioning sounds like a plane taking off. I would like to think that the main hotel was better.
The food was nice not a lot of difference in price to some of the resturaunts in the town.
One thing that i do find annoying is that they charge you 4 euro's for a sunbed even though you are a guest, they also charge you 3.50 euro's to put your own food and drink in the fridge in your room which i think is disgusting.
Apart from this it was a pleasant stay in a lovely area of Italy.

This is an excellent hotel. Please do your research before you travel though. The hotel is situated outside Sorrento with fabulous views over the Bay of Naples. It is next to a busy road, however this did not bother us, just the occasional horn to warn oncoming traffic. The hotel operates a courtesy bus into and out if town, we found this service great and arranged our days around it. You can walk into town, but I would recommend sensible
Shoes.

On arrival late at night we were greeted by staff on reception and a cold salad which was great, we did not expect this. The reception staff were always helpful and friendly and helpful as well as all the waiting staff. Our room was small, but it was clean and functional. We spent very little time in our room anyway as we were enjoying Italy! The maud service was excellent and towels changed every day if required.

Sunbeds, we stayedun June and there was usually plenty. We did book hem every day however and requested the ones we wanted. The weather was do fabulous, I was out early every morning to take advantage of it!

The food was of a good standard fir a 4 star and full waiter servce n the evening. There was always plenty of choice As well as local specialities. If you wanted to have the pasta rush as your main rather than a starter, this can be arranged. It was my birthday while we were there and they brought out a lovely chocolate fair and sparkling wine with their compliments.

I would recommend this hotel if you are looking fir a good quality hotel at a decent prce, away from the hustle and bustle of the main resort but with fabulous views wherever you look.

Having read the reviews about the Grand Hotel Aminta before we booked we were pretty sure we were going to like it and we did.

We had a room in the annex, at the back overlooking the garden, which was nicely decorated and clean. If we were to go back we would request either a room in the main hotel or a room overlooking the bay in the annex. However, given what we paid for the room (got a pretty good deal on Expedia), we couldn't complain!

The staff were great, particularly the restaurant and bar staff. The restaurant is nice too. Our stay included breakfast, which was good, lots of choice. We also ate dinner in the restaurant a few times, also good. The restaurant has an a la carte menu plus a set menu - we ate from the a la carte.

The hotel has internet access, and although we managed to get this working on the first day, we weren't so lucky the rest of our stay - think this was probably a laptop issue rather than the hotel wifi.

The hotel is located out of town, and the courtesy bus only runs at certain times, which were a wee bit inconvenient - however we kind of knew this before we booked so weren't surprised. We picked the hotel because we were coming by car and knew that parking would be less of a problem out of town.

If you are looking for somewhere quiet, with a pool, free parking, wifi, great staff, good food, clean & tidy rooms then this hotel has all those things.

Having booked this hotel following research on this and similar websites, my wife and I were eagerly anticipating our first visit to Italy. (We are both in our early-mid 50s).
Upon our arrival we were allocated our room which was little more than a box room, next to reception and the night staff were banging doors and cupboards all night. and it has to be said that if someone on the ground floor coughs you can hear it on the fourth floor.
I complained to the Thomsons rep and she was very good and later that day we were given a bigger and better room on 3rd floor. If you are like me and my wife, and need at least 2 cups of tea to kick start your day then forget it at this hotel, there are no tea/coffee making facilities in your rooms. It also has to be said that we booked half board on the strength of other reviews and the hotel web page all I can say is that the food was noithing special and lacked variation and choice. Having said that the a la carte menu seemed far superior but very expensive. The hotel itself was 'nice' but boring. and the worst thing for me and others that I spoke to was the fact that even though you were fair paying and paid up guest,if you wished to lie by the small hotel pool next to a very busy Road you would have to pay 4 euros a day for the privilege. The hotel is situated quite a way out and up a very steep incline. There is a free coutesey bus to the hotel but if you want to stay out after 1115pm you will have to use local taxis which are extortianate.
In fairness the staff are most helpful and pleasant and will go that extra mile for you. I would not use this hotel again and it is most definately not 4 star standard. (it lacks the little things that make a 3 star into a 4 star)

The good reviews before have said it all, friendly staff, clean etc. Having to book a sunbed and not getting a choice wasnt great but it worked out ok. The traffic outside the hotel wasnt that bad. The views were amazing, you'd be hard pressed to find better.

The breakfast was part of the package for us and it was nothing special but there was a wide choice availabe both hot and cold.

We stayed in the annex part of the hotel, the room was clean with a minibar and a balcony which we were'nt expecting. One thing to be said we had the soil vent pipe for the room upstairs partlially coming into our room so we could hear the water running through when the people above used the shower or went to the toilet. It wasnt too much of a bother so we didnt complain.

The bus service up and down was always on time, the walk from the hotel down takes about 20min, it is steep. The walk up takes 40min, its not easy but it is doable.

One last thing, at the bus stop there is a place called ibsen park, in it there is a open air cafe, theatre and a restaurant. Check it out, its a great place to have a drink and wait for the bus or if you want a meal the restaurant is down the steps from the cafe, it was one of the most relaxing meals we had. The staff are really friendly as well.

We have just returned from a five nights stay at the Aminta and cannot compliment this place enough.

This is a beautiful hotel, in a very nice area of Sorrento, run by lovely people.

From the moment we stepped out of the taxi, we were given such a warm friendly welcome.

The staff is exceptional providing a first rate service. We felt truly looked after and relaxed.

Our room was nice, very spacious and immaculately clean.

Excellent restaurant, superb pool area, perfect pool bar - We loved it!!!!!

Of all the hotels we stayed at in Sorrento none can beat this one.

The Aminta is the BEST we've ever found and would stay there again and again and again.

I stayed here for 1 week, booked last minute as a result of reviews. Would agree with most comments. The views from the hotel are fantastic across the Bay of Naples particularly from the East facing rooms. Friends staying in rooms without a sea view found the rooms small and rather cramped. The rooms were well presented and spotless. Noise when seated on the balcony from the road was intense... all motorists sound their horns a lot as the road running right in front of the hotel is both busy and bendy. Restaurant service superb but I found the food rather bland. Cooked breakfast was included in the price. The pool area was adequate but I could have done without the piped music all day long. bar service was slow a little bit reluctant! Only 8 shuttle buses a day. To me a regular bus should run hourly. "Sita" bus runs a regulra service and reception staff very helpful and knowledgable about trips in the area. Be warned, it is a 10 minute walk downhill to the edge of the town but more like 30 minutes into the centre. Don't even think about using the local taxis. The 10 minute ride from the Bus station to the hotel when I arrived cost 25 Euro!. I would certainly recommend the hotel facilities. I wouldn't stay there again however as it is just too far outside the town and I spent a lot of time waiting for buses!
