We could very much relate to earlier reviews about this hotel. Generally the litmus test is would we go back - and we would! We had a fabulous Balcony room with a view of the Bay and Vesuvius as a back drop. We paid for full breakfast which was of a good quality - set you up for the day nicely. We ate a few times in the hotel in the evening on an a la carte basis - was glad we didn't elect to go half board - and that was fine - good value fillet steak! Avoid ordering from the pool bar at lunchtime - we had the most awful club sandwich and others were saying they had a similar experience - the restaurant lunches were good. Sorrento is lovely and there is so much choice for good places to eat. The Sita buses were great - especially the trip down the Amalfi Drive - save a fortune! We took the train to Herculaneum - again very straightforward. All in all a lovely part of the world.

Sorrento was such a fantastic holiday resort to visit for my summer break. The Hotel Aminta had one of the most amazing views over looking the gulf of Naples, and with the beautiful weather i could not ask for more. The service was fantastic throughout my stay and the hotel was immaculate. The food was fantastic and was most enjoyable, and with the panoramic view of Naples at evening light, was most delightful - but with booking in advance in the summer season as with high demand there is not always availability on the terrace. There is evening entertainment to enjoy, and can be carried on down into the Sorrento town. The local shops are not far to walk and with local trips to be done there is always something to do. If just relaxing is your thing then Sorrento is the choice for you, but it is a holiday that can be enjoyed by everyone. Me and my friends really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again soon. Thank you Hotel Aminta for our lovely stay and hope to see you again soon :-)

My husband and I decided to marry along the Amalfi Coast in the small village of Ravello. Being from a large Italian family I knew immediately that I wanted to marry somewhere in my familys region. We visited all the towns along the Amalfi Coast Minori, Ravello, Aalfi, Sorrento, Positano. The best by far was Ravello for the actual wedding but as it is so quiet and set up high in the mountains we chose to stay in Sorrento which is the central point for all tourist attractions with a lively gorgeous atmosphere and is around an hour and half from Ravello. You will also find that ravello is absolutely extortionate to stay in and you do not get much for your money in the way of accomodation. The distancce isnt actually that far betweent the towns but the roads are extremely narrow and windy which is what builds up the time.

I had stayed in the Grand Hotel Aminta in Sorrento previously but for a very short stay of 2 ngihts.
Having remembered the breath taking views from the outside patio area plus the location I thoguht it would be the perfect hotel for our wedding guests. AND IT WAS!!!!!
Of the 90 guests we invited around 50-60 of them chose to stay at the Aminta. Some chose other hotels in the very centre of Sorrento and the rest were italian relatives that lived there anyway.
If you read information about the Aminta it is easy to feel like the hotel is far from the centre. This isnt the case at all. You can walk the cobbled pathway down to the centre in 10-15 minutes taking in the amazing sea views and then catch the hotel bus back up (or walk if you have the energy).
As the hotel is at the very top of the hill the views are absolutely outstanding from your rooms and the pool area. You will not get this if you stay in the central hotels. The guests that did not stay with us at the Aminta all regretted not staying at this hotel for this reason.
The rooms are basic but light and airy and absolutely spotless. Cleaners come round every single day and leave your room imaculate.
The reception staff are absolutely outstanding. They cannot do enough for you and are there to suggest solutions to any problems you may have, or to suggest things to do.
We all stayed on a half board basis where breakfast and dinner were included. The menu was changed every night and offered dishes to suit everyone. The food and wine was gorgeous and had no complaint from anyone.
They had entertainment on every night in the small hotl bar, different singers and bands all of which were fantstic!!!

The night before the wedding my husband and I wanted to throw a pizzsa party for all the guests as a warm up to the big day. Even with such short notice the manager of the hotel was happy to oblige and organised everything. We had pizzas and wine in the restaurant and he then reserved the lovely seating area by the outside pool for us. It was all lit up and we had an amazing singer who entertained everyone for the night. It was the best night and we all had a great time and danced the night away outside.

I really dont think there is anything bad people can say about this hotel and find it hard to agree with any of the negative reviews written about the Aminta.
The pool was relatively cold but once you were in it was fine. Thats the only downside I can think of.

I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Sorrento!! You really wouldnt be dissapointed.

The hotel and it's setting are stunning, the staff cannot be faulted - they are helpful, friendly and always pleasant. Signore Michele and the staff serving food are outstanding. Be prepared for the fact that you are high up a mountain so the walk into Sorrento is not a gentle amble, but the hotel does put on free buses to and from the hotel to assist you. The place oozes relaxation from the moment you arrive but be prepared to put on weight as the food is excellent & the portions are substantial! I would highly recommend to adults wanting a lovely break away from it all.

If you are thinking about going on holiday somewhere warm with your kids then you probably are not considering Sorrento, but if are then don't come to this hotel. Sorrento does not hold much to entertain youngsters so you would want something at the hotel to fill in and this one does not.

The pool looks very nice but most of it is over 6ft deep, 10ft for the most part. No adults can stand up in it, let alone kids. The side pool is 4ft to 5ft deep so little ones still have no chance. No play area for them either. The sun beds are all pre-booked and pre-paid for the day before so if you fancy a lounge by the pool for a while at any time forget it. It is either all day or a deck chair. The pool goes in to shade in the late afternoon so no lazing in the sun by the pool at the end of the day. The pool and patio is right next to a pretty busy road and the buses toot their horns as they round the corners so it is not very peaceful but you get used to it after a few days.

Your fellow inhabitants will be mostly english, mostly couples and pairs of older ladies. Some italians but kids were few and far between. The hotel is quite posh but not snooty, all the staff speak good english. Although it was apparently full it was always quiet in the public rooms. The food is good, nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about.

The shuttle to the town is a good selling point for the hotel. Very punctual, it takes about 10 mins to get up or down.

Another big plus for me was the free wifi with strong signal everywhere.

I would recommend this hotel to older couples and ladies in their 60's 70's without hesitation but if you have active 2 to 18 year olds in your party then I would not come here.

The hotel is situated up a hill outside the centre of town, which in the busy month of August is an absolute blessing (nice and quiet with stunning views)! The complimentary bus service runs regularly and it is only a short walk down to the town (around 15 mins), although the walk back will take a few minutes more - to catch your breath! The hotel staff are AMAZING!! very accomodating, friendly and helpful. There is good internet connection in the main lobby (the staff helpfully printed off our boarding passes) and the hotel provided us with local bus and train information. They do offer excursions e.g. to Pompei, however we used the train instead and saved an absolute packet compared. For example, we took the train from Sorrento to Pompei, at a cost of 1.90 (euro) per person each way. Entry to the site was 5.50 (euro) for under 25's (take your passport, driving licence or student card) and 11 (euro) for over 25's. The train station is easy to find and use too. (Please note that if you want to save a few euros, there are discounted rates for most places for students & those under 25 including Vesuvious, Herculaneum, Pompei and the Naples Museum).

We stayed in the annex away from the main hotel and the rooms were clean, cool and spacious. The pool is great for diving as it gets very deep (3'10 metres) and the pool side has excellent chairs, loungers (although there is a small cost daily for using these) and bar. The daily breakfast had a great selection and tasted delicious (fruit, cakes and hot selection e.g. bacon and egg). We only had dinner one night at the resturant but what we had was lovely, although a little pricey compared to town. They had live music evenings and the entertainment sounded fantastic. It's a very romantic hotel and I'd definetly reccommend it to couples. Although we stayed as a large group of 8, they were very accomodating - setting up and saving us a large table so that we could sit together every breakfast and ensuring all our accomodation (4 rooms in total) were close together.

3 members of our party had birthdays whilst we were there and after a request had been made for one birthday cake, all 3 received one for breakfast in the end! The staff really went the extra mile and made it feel like a 5 star hotel, rather then a 4.

Enjoy your stay - we certainly all did!
