Third stay at the Aminta. Excellent staff and views. A bit out of town. Shuttle provided but schedule could be more frequent. Primarily American and British tourists. Good value for money given current exchange rates. Food at restaurant is good although may not satisfy those with gourmet tastes. Facility clean with decent amenities. Would rate as 4 star. The outstanding service provided by staff is its best asset.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2007. It was fantastic hotel - we were 2 adults and 17 and 15 year old children so had 2 rooms which were great - picked the seaview and had magical views all day and night. The service was exceptional from the front desk to the waiters. Our daughter had her 17th birthday here and they made a lovely birthday cake with champagne for her. Very special. Very nice to stay on the hill above the city as it was very quiet and the pool was very refreshing in the heat of the day. All in all a very spectacular hotel . Would highly recommend this hotel

We had a lovely stay at this hotel . The views from our balcony and from all aspects of the hotel were spectacular ,breath taking we only wish we could be transformed back there now to see the view one more time (have a look at the hotels webcam )our 15 yrear old daughter especially enjoyed the pool. The hotel is very clean and plush. The staff were very friendly and helpfull especially at reception. The breakfasts were enormous you certainly wont need any lunch. The hotel bus is a great bonus our only comment would be that the timing of the last bus was a little late for us.
Take lots of money for the many amazing trips by bus and boat and train. We loved Capri if you avoid the crowds and go off the beaten track you will see some spectacular views and get some lovely photos. We hired a car for the day but really it wasnt necessary as the local bus stops outside the hotel every 30 mins . We strongly recomend this international hotel we certainly would stay again.

This hotel is a bit out of the way from town but once you have dumped your bags, it is within easy walking distance if you like a hill climb! The hotel is beautiful with majestic views, sunsets, a great pool area, and spacious and clean rooms. The hotel staff are great and knowledgeable about the area and you can book tours through them. Whilst we are not the biggest fans of tours, it is well worth doing a guided trip to Pompeii and Vesuvious through this hotel.
Breakfast was included and a really nice affair. The restaurant is mediocre and we recommend going out to town for dinner.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Aminta at the end of our 2 wk. stay in Italy from August 7-11, 2007. We had a wonderful time staying there! The views are breathtaking, the pool clean and inviting and the staff was helpful and friendly. We had two rooms next door to each other, one triple and one double with balconies overlooking the pool and the Bay of Naples. It was worth it to get the rooms with the balconies. We enjoyed relaxing out there in the evening. The breakfast was adequete and had the usual selection: yogurt, rolls, croissants and cereal. We only had dinner at the hotel once and found the food quite good. We had fun on the gala night where they had a musician(who was very good!) play at dinner and then after dinner at the pool. The staff encouraged people to dance , which we took advantage of , while our embarassed children looked on!
There is a free shuttle bus to the center of Sorrento which was fine, except I wish they had more of them at different times. One time we wanted to go back before the 11;15pm shuttle and missed the one before that was 8:30pm, so we ended up taking a cab for 22 E to the hotel! We walked down the windy path from the hotel to the center of Sorrento, which made me a little nervous with all the fast drivers on mopeds! Overall, it was in a great location, removed from the center of Sorrento, high on cliff with gorgeous views. Easy to make transportation connections, like Capri, Amalfi and even Naples airport(hop a bus at the train station). We took a cab to a sandy beach only 20 min. away which was fun too. I think this was one of our kids favorite hotels we stayed in during our 2 wk trip to Italy. We absolutely loved our stay at Grand Hotel Aminta and would return again!

This is our second trip to the Grand hotel Aminta. We have stayed in many nice hotels, but none as lovely as the Aminta. The staff and facilities are superb and the friendly approach made us feel extremely welcome. The food is superb (they were very accomodating towards my food allergy). And to top it off, the views are breathtaking.

We were so sad to leave. We will definately be back.

First the good news. The staff are friendly, the swimming pool is excellent and beautifully maintained, there's a nice bar and lovely views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples from the veranda. Tourist attractions such as Capri and Pompeii are close by, and our travel agent provided very good excursions. The hotel is located on the side of a hill, just out of town - but some holidaymakers might prefer the sense of seclusion this provides, and the hotel runs regular courtesy buses in and out of Sorrento. No problem with the location, for me.

Now the bad news. Hope I've got enough space left.

Our room, although mostly clean, was slightly shabby, rather small and modestly furnished. The bathroom was pretty awful - dark and poky, with a nasty, narrow little bath, plating wearing off the brass taps and with only a tiny little shelf above the washbasin to keep the usual necessities. The air-conditioning is a shade unpredictable (I awoke with my teeth chattering one morning at about 3am), the bed was actually two twin beds pushed together (making it slightly uncomfortable for a honeymooning couple, I have to say) and the bedclothes were seriously inadequate - a sheet, an old blanket we found in the wardrobe, and a cover that appeared not to have been washed for a few years.

Our room had an adjoining door to the next room.

I found the hotel's food to be fairly dreadful, personally - there were very few dishes that left the plate without leaving an oil slick. To be fair, breakfast was fine if you stuck to bread, cereals and yoghurt - even the Aminta couldn't ruin those.

To make matters worse, the hotel likes to place several of its customers at the same table, school-dinners-style. We were fortunate enough to meet two very pleasant couples whom we enjoyed dining with, but if you're in the expectation that you'll be eating with your partner in privacy, beware.

The Aminta also likes to run what it calls "Gala Nights" in the restaurant, when there's a fixed, no-choice, eat-what-you're-given menu. These are made even less bearable by a singer / keyboard player who is every bit as loud as he is talentless. We fell victim to this phenomenon twice during our one-week stay.

Internet access is provided in two dark little booths with extraordinary, tiny seats that looked more like chair arms. It occurred to me that most of the hotel's guests would probably prefer not to have to cope with the (very awkward) Italian keyboard layout - investing the necessary 20 Euros or so in UK keyboards might be a good idea - when we stayed there, the hotel's clientele was overwhelmingly British. But this is a minor point.

The hotel lift is tiny. But again, that's a minor niggle indeed compared to the Aminta's more conspicuous shortcomings, though it might be more worthy of note in a good hotel.

In all honesty, I have to recommend that this place should be avoided unless you don't care about physical comfort or your diet (or perhaps if you intend to eat elsewhere a lot). I would certainly Come Back To Sorrento, but will be more careful in my choice of hotel next time.
