“Charming small hotel”
Reviewed 10 August 2010

Hotel Mignon is in centre of Sorrento in narrow street off Corso Italia. Very convenient location about 15 mins from train station. Room was charming and had balcony, only negative was that lighting could have been better. Staff very friendly. Overall good value for money. Would definitely return.

This hotel is certainly no frills but the price reflects this. It is so economical, especially for the amazing location. It is a minute walk from corso italia and the main piazza. The rooms are exceptionally clean and tidy and huge in size. The staff are delightful, friendly and helpful and breakfast is lovely. I have stayed at this hotel a number of times now and will continue to return for the lovely service.

We stayed at Mignon for 6 nights. The rooms are small but clean and well kept. It is also very well insulated from the outside noise. The bathroom even had a 110v outlet, it came in handy as I did not have to deal with having to use mine. Do not expect rooms with a view though, as it is located inside the town and you can only see the buildings next doors. Our room had a balcony with a view of the pedestrian street below…so it was a good people watching point. We got a good discount by paying cash for our room. In general the staff was helpful and courteous and ready to provide information if asked.
The breakfast coffee was very good. Don’t expect the all American continental breakfast at this hotel or any other mid range priced hotel in Italy for that matter. I learned that Italians are not fans of big breakfast spreads and they probable think that us Americans should feel grateful that they even serve us breakfast at all!
For those that have problems claiming stairs...there is no elevator here. We did not have a problem with this but there may be some folks that may have an issue pulling suitcases up 2 or 3 flights of stairs. There are a few restaurants close by in the main piazza (Piazza Tasso) and also down by the marinas (Delfino was expensive by had GREAT food!). The train station and buses are a 10 minute walk from the hotel and the main shopping alley is also very close.
Sorrento was an excellent home base for us since all means of public transportation were right there, close. From Sorrento we traveled by bus to Salerno and Paestum and returned by train. The local train and bus service is also great for travel to other major sights like Pompeii, Vesuvius, and museums in Naples. The island of Capri is a 20-30 minute ride on the jet boats. All in all Mignon was a good choice for us.

This hotel is perfectly located, convenient to shopping in Sorrento as well as to the Circumvesuviana train train which one can use for transport to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Naples. The staff is kind and friendly, the breakfast is delicious, the room is perfect.

The Mignon Meuble is in an excellent location for central Sorrento, I was wary about the other reviews but we were very surprised, especially for the money. It was clean, newly refurbished, huge bed, very clean, staff were very friendly and there was no noise whatsoever. I cannot fault this place and woudl stay there again no problem. The only thing to bear in mind si that they don't have a lift, which wouldn't bother us at all only that we had a buggy with us which I carried, but not really a problem as there's only 2 floors. The free internet access is a bonus too.

I would have preferred they spent their budget on flat screen TVs on some new bedspreads. Mine had stains and more than one strand of hair that wasn't mine. The shower really needs a little shelf or something to hold up a bottle of shampoo and soap; I had to put everything on the floor. The breakfast isn't great: just some rolls already on the table and you help yourself to cereal and toast laid out on a small bar. There is fresh fruit for the early risers, which is a lot better than the boxed oj. Coffee is nice and strong. There are only 2 Internet stations, both of which were in constant use, and one when it wasn't, wasn't working or was very slow. When I asked about it, the response wasn't helpful. The other comment about the walls being thin is true! I could hear the next room's alarm clock go off!

The best part about this hotel is the central location. The staff was reasonably friendly although I wouldn't go so far as to say they go out of their way to help their guests. For the very low rate we got off season it wasn't a bad deal. We even had a terrace and the blue and white floor tiles are a nice touch. While the tiled floor was clean, the bit of mold/rust in the bathroom and the stained bed spread need to be addressed.

My husband and I were married in Sorrento in September of 2008. We were bringing along approximately 15 people, all with varying budgets. So we wanted to stay in an affordable hotel that could accommodate our entire party, was in close proximity to public transportation and the wedding sites.

After scouring the Internet for weeks, in addition to obtaining recommendations from my Italian wedding planner, I chose Hotel Mignon. We were not expecting luxury accommodations but the hotel staff were more than friendly and the price was right. We were also able to negotiate some money off of the bill due to a group discount. (It might have helped to have had my Italian contact do the negotiating.)

The bedrooms/bathrooms were not the fanciest so expect to feel like you're in an upscale hostel (with private rooms). But if you plan on being outside most of the time, then this is plenty. The bed style is your standard European model of pushing two twin beds together to make a double. The shower in our room was small and we're both very thin.

Breakfast and free Internet were included. And one of the hotel staff spoke English well enough that he could help me, even during some difficult situations.
