Couldn't disagree more with the person from Sydney! We love this hotel so much we have been nine times! The staff (who are mostly from the family who own it) are so helpful and friendly they put other places to shame. We love its quiet position and the refurbishment since we last went five years ago has improved it immensely while still keeping its friendly small-hotel atmosphere. The menu is varied and if you don't like what's on offer they will always cook you something else. We also love Sorrento because although we agree that it is busy, it has kept its village atmosphere in the narrow streets and the Marina Grande. Try Delfino's down there (Marina Grande) for the best Gnocchi and La Lanterna in the town for great carbonara. The only reason we wouldn't recommend it to anyone else is that we don't want too many other people to find it and stop us from going!

Small hotel, too far from the centre of Sorrento. All staff except one (the helpful gentleman with the beard) didn't care at all about the guests, and were not helpful at all regarding info on their town (trains, ferries, restaurants etc). Rooms are extremely small, restaurant hours are not long enough (2 hours a night). An overall poor experience and would not recommend to anyone.

This hotel is in a wonderful position overlooking Sorrento, which can be very noisy as the Via Corso runs through the town. It's very clean and quiet and the shuttle service is superb for those who don't want to walk the 15 minutes to town through the hilltop village. Excellent food and service and the staff are very friendly. I shall be returning in 2009 to stay there again, in my opinion this hotel is one of the best in Sorrento.

The Hotel La Vue d'Or was absolutely amazing. We had such a wonderful time there--the hotel is beautiful inside and out. The lobby is open & airy, the pool is sparkling, the solarium is private and relaxing, the breakfast is terrific, the shuttle is convenient and reliable. We had the most incredible room (we got upgraded to a family suite) with a balcony and a panoramic view of the sea, Vesuvius, and hillsides. And we cannot speak highly enough of the staff. We had a family emergency back home that cut our trip short, and the staff was very concerned & sympathetic, and they bent over backwards trying to help us get the next flight out of Rome.

Loved this hotel. There was a shuttle bus that took us from the hotel into Sorrento, which took 15 minutes. It has a local bus that stops outside with links to Sorrento and in the other direction to positano and amalfi etc, which were so worth a visit. The hotel was up in the Sorrento hills and had the most amazing views over Sorrento, bay of Naples and Vesuvius in the distance. The view was really pretty and green and the sea also in the distance. The hotel had a nice pool, a good breakfast and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Wasnt massivley impressed with Sorrento itself, as it is very touristy and busy so was glad to be up in the hills in the peace and quiet (until the school holidays started in the last 2 days of our holiday, then things changed slightly!) Also to add, there is a lovely restaurant just down the hill that had excellent food and probably the best service we have ever come across. One of the restaurant's staff picked us up from the hotel then dropped us off again, as the winding road is rather dangerous at night. The seafood was out of this world and the view with an amazing sunset made it a really romantic setting for a lovely evening.

We stayed at La Vue D'or for a week in June and had a lovely time. Although the hotel was located about a 15 min drive from Sorrento itself it wasn't a problem as the hotel ran a free courtesy bus for most of the day. The first leaving fairly early in the morning and the last leaving Sorrento at 11.30pm. Although there was a break during the day the local Sita service bus ran regularly and stopped outside the hotel (2 euros for a one way ticket or 6 euros for a full day ticket that could be bought from the hotel reception).

Our room was clean and comfortable and the view was breathtaking. We could see over the bay of Naples to Vesuvius in the background from our balcony. The hotel in general was clean and the pool area was well kept.

We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was continental but there was plenty of choice. The evening meals were also nice. I was worried that being a vegetarian I would have problems but if there was nothing on the menu for me they would always make me something special.

We chose not to do the Thomas Cook excursions as it was easy to get to most of the places ourselves on the bus or train for a lot less money. We went to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Amalfi/Ravello at a fraction of the cost. We also took the boat to Capri one day which only took 20 minutes.

I would really like to stay here again one day.
