“Sorrento at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed at the lovely Villa Oriana for a week in July. It's a beautiful location, set in a lemon grove on the side of a hill just outside Sorrento (which is walking distance) with a wonderful view over the bay of Naples. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, there was a lovely family feel to the place. Maria who runs the hotel came to talk to us every breakfast and she made the most wonderful cakes that we enjoyed everyday. The staff (Milena and Magdalena) were very welcoming and kind too with good recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We would definitely go back and would strongly recommend this as a very lovely, comfortable and relaxed place to stay.

The hotel is located in the high part of the city. When we arrived Milena offered a fresh lemonade with a delicious lemon cake.
The breakfast is fantastic with fresh mozzarela, cakes, pies, and a beautiful view of Vesuvio.
Maria, the owner of the hotel cares about all guests and every day went to talk to us, providing information regarding places to go, restaurantes with pickup services, etc.
For sure this hotel will always be our first option in Sorrento.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so it is better to book a room in the first floor below the reception.

We stayed there for two nights on the end of a very wonderful but exhausting 30-day trip throughout Italy. Villa Oriana was the perfect place to end our vacation. The staff and owner treated us like family. The owner even gave us rides to the train station and to a restaurant from the villa. The views are spectacular and the breakfasts are amazing! The owner bakes all the breakfast cakes, pies, etc. from scratch in the lovely kitchen every morning. Each day we ate breakfast on the beautiful deck overlooking the sea. We highly recommend a day trip to Capri on a boat for snorkeling and swimming around the island. The staff made all our arrangements for us for sightseeing trips and restaurant reservations. If we ever return to Sorrento, we will stay there again!

Not sure what I can add that the other visitors have not said. It is a perfect place, the staff are wonderful and make you feel special, like family. The views are heavenly which does mean there is a walk into Sorrento itself but a bus runs along the main road once you have reached it from the private road. The breakfasts are also heavenly, in fact the who experience (room included) was heavenly and like the other reviews, we cannot wait to return.

We have just returned after 9 days at villa Oriana relais and it was amazing....

Firstly the staff were so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Whatever you asked or needed they were so happy to help. This included help with booking restaurants, recommendations of places to eat and just general advice.

The villa itself was exceptional....clean, in great condition and it had the most spectacular views at both breakfast time and in an evening. Although the villa is a little way out from the centre of sorrento (approx 20 mins) it is worth it for the views and tranquility. The walk helps to burn off the extra calories from the most delicious breakfasts that are served daily, which include a wide variety of homemade cakes. Mmmmmmmmmmm

The sun terrace and jacuzzi and a special added extra which we enjoyed on the days we didn't go on trips. The trips that the hotel offer are of a great standard with a pick up and drop of service.

We very rarely visit the same place twice as there are so many places in the world to visit but we will definitely be back and stay at this villa.

Villa Oriana is a special place. We arrived after a crazy day of traveling. They immediately put us at ease by giving us homemade lemonade and cake. They then told us about the area and recommended trips. I highly recommend the boat trip around and to Capri. The breakfast was delicious. They even kept it out late when I went running one morning. Maria and the staff want you to feel at home, and you do!

We are not really partial to return to places over and over again but this one has us hooked! The villa is so wonderful and there is much so to do and see in the area that we will be going again next year. Usual combination of lovely view , outstanding food and lovely staff. I am passing on a few tips in case they are helpful. Transfers from Naples airport options: 1. Book a cab with the hotel , it costs about 85 e each way. Down side cost and road congestion and a different standard of driving compared with UK. Obviously the easiest door to door method. Option 2, coach from airport to Sorrento and walk or take cab up to the villa. Coach costs about 10 e each, each way. Down side of the coach is that it goes via the road which gets congested and it only runs every 1.5 hours and finishes running fairly early on the way back. The coach does not appear to be bookable. Option 3. Taxi or bus to rail station , then use the circumventer . Quite inexpensive and runs regularly, problem it takes a long time (1.5 hours) , is dirty and hot and there are pick pockets on it. Once you arrive by train you need to walk or take cab. Get off the train and the bus the stop before sorrento . cab costs about 15 e. Option 4, bus or cab to the ferry port , then take ferry to sorrento and walk, or take the bus and walk or get a gap. The ferry is our favourite , it takes 30 minutes and cost about 10 e each. Bus to ferry is easy to use and costs 1e each. Once you arrive by ferry there is a bus that takes you to the bottom of the hill where the villa is located. It is quite hard to find first time so a cab might be best when you arrive. The staff told us about a fab pizza place in sorrento , it was packed out with local people, called Franco's . The best Pizza we have ever had and inexpensive. The cafe had a great atmosphere too, but not for those who object to paper plates.
We tried to use public transport to get around, what a nightmare! On the last day we learnt a useful lesson. whilst waiting in the ever present bus Que., for a bus that did not turn up we asked the people next to us if they wanted to share a taxi. In the end 6 of us shared a taxi to do a 20 minute trip at a cost of 5 e each.
In the villa we had a lovely room and noticed some more updates including new soft furnishings and new TVs. Thank you for my birthday treats , you make everyone feel special.

Room Tip: We have two different rooms now, our favourite is the white room, just because of the view.
