“A peaceful oasis with wonderful service”
Reviewed 23 June 2009

If you haven't visited Sorrento before, you should be aware that many of the town's hotels sit on the exceptionally noisy road into town (Corso Italia). Although not ideally located for a quick walk to town (~20 minutes along a busy road), Villa Oriana Relais is ideally positioned a few streets back from the main road and also a little way up the hillside. This means that it is both extremely peaceful and also provides wonderful views of the bay of Naples. In this regard, it is a great place to stay in Sorrento. Oriana Relais is a family run business and has maintained an exeptionally personal service throughout, from the lovely welcome and offer of fresh lemonade after a long drive, to the freshly baked cakes prepared for breakfast each day by the hotel owner. Although our room wasn't huge, it was very clean and comfortable and had a lovely private outside terrace. The communal terrace on the building roof has exceptional views of the bay and is a great place to enjoy a drink as the sun sets on the bay. Finally, the lemon tree lined approch to the hotel has to be seen!

First, to caveat many of the negative reviews:
1. Look at some maps while considering this property. If you do not plan to have a car, and/or you are not keen on a 10 - 20 minute walk into Sorrento proper, do NOT stay here. We are young and love to walk, so this was not a problem.
2. Understand that this is a small family business that is truly a bed and breakfast, and you will not have the full complement of staff and amenities available to you as in a hotel.

My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon and were very pleased. At check-in, we were greeted by Elio, who gave us info about the property and the local attractions, as well as some lemonade! He had offered to pick us up at the train station but we declined, so that lemonade was extra tasty after our walk with bags. The property is beautiful and clean and breakfast is fantastic. All the staff were warm and helpful - we got great dinner recommendations. At the end of our stay, we were driven to the train station. No complaints and highly recommended!

We found the Villa Oriana on tripadvisor and I'm very glad that we stayed here. The villa is set in a very peaceful location surrounded by lemon groves with views out to the sea. The family who own the Villa Oriana offer the best service I have ever experienced, especially Elio who is friendly and knowledgable about the local area. The breakfast is outstanding, with plenty of choice from mozzerella, meats to cakes and fruit. We also visited 3 restaurants in the local area who had an arrangement offering a free taxi service to and from the villa, this was particularly welcoming after a tiring day out sight seeing. If I were returning to Sorrento I would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate recommending to others.

My family of 4 (wife and two teens) visited Villa Oriana for 4 days last week. It was fantastic! The staff, the villa, the views, the food... all amazing. I would highly recommend Villa Oriana - I can't imagine another B&B (or hotel for that matter) being better. The location was just far enough out of town that you avoid the crowds, while still being able to walk to town (or take the bus, which we finally figured out on the last two days). The staff, led by the owner Maria, was second to none; friendly, helpful and always smiling. The room fit 4 of us comfortably (cool in the summer with or without the AC on) and had wireless internet access, which was important for my teens. The jacuzzi on roof was a great way to relax after a day of site seeing. The Friday Dinner; hosted by Maria at the Villa, was probably the best meal I've had in several years. My wife and I would love to return to the Villa Oriana some day in the not too distant future.

I recently stayed at Villa Oriana and must say that I had the most wonderful experience of great hospitality surrounded in an amazing setting. Elio the manager together with the owners Giuseppe and Maria could not be more helpful and generous in their kindness and warmth. Villa Oriana is a fantastic hidden gem set in the foothills of Sorrento amongst wonderful landscapes of lemon and orange groves. I have travelled extensively around the world and stayed in Sorrento many times before but the refreshing and quite wonderful stay at this location made our holiday complete. I would certainly recommend this amazing find to all travellers to Sorrento and thank you again every one at Villa Oriana!

This is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in while in Italy. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, the rooms comfortable and spotless and the views over the Bay of Naples were stunning. And on top of all that, Maria's cooking was outstanding - she even catered for a gluten-free diet.

we were warmly welcomed by our host and shown to our lovely room with a view over Sorrento. brilliant bathroom!. Breakfast is a feast, just love having freshly baked cake for breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice.
My only gripe is the house is a long way up a steep hill. The lsporadic ocal bus will take you to Sorrento etc, but it is a long walk if you miss a bus.
