“Sorrento Spectacular”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2012

Had a weeks stay at this fabulous hotel, the views from the numerous terraces filled with plants are great, a room with a view is quite expensive, we had a quiet room with a little courtyard at the rear with ornate features and planting was ok, we used the terraces to relax which there are many to choose from, so was not dissapointed with no view from the room. the five pools look great and their was plenty of sunbeds dotted all around the terraces, you can have a different view of Sorrento town or out to sea if you move around the numerous areas to sit out, with waiter service cruising around you have no need to get up to go for a drink. The dining rooms have great outlook, dont forget your sun glasses when going for breakfast as they try to seat everyone as close to the terrace edge to give everyone great views. The breakfast was self service, you can have as much as you want, eggs, bacon, cereal, fruit, breads, cakes, etc ( no good for weight watchers)
the evening meal was ok with obviously a lot of pasta dishes, but you have to pay for any drinks ordered at the table. The hotel is spotless and everyware was neat and tidy, the staff could not do enough to help you, and in uniform looked very smart. If using the pool you can pick up a towel from the attendant by the poolside. Its a short walk into the town, will take you 20 mins to the town square and port.

Room Tip: A room as high as possible with view is ideal but is rather expensive, we found the terrace a great...

We recently stayed in Sorrento for one week to celebrate the last 60th birthday in our group of four and the Capodimonte was chosen on the recommendation of two sets of friends, but also backed up by the positive reviews and TripAdvisor rankings.

The hotel has an imposing setting on the hillside just off the main road at the edge of town and buildings are spread over various levels with views across the Bay of Naples and towards Vesuvius. The interior of the hotel is beautifully designed, very clean and well maintained.

Our double rooms 333/336, both with sea views and balconies were comfortable and clean but would have benefitted from some additional drawer space. One of the rooms was at the end of a corridor and was slightly smaller but had a better view, looking directly towards Vesuvius. We did not notice any significant noise disturbance during our stay.

We opted for Half Board and had Dinner in the main restaurant each evening. Where possible we ate outside on the open air terrace section looking out across the bay. The menu was varied and food quality overall was good, but surprisingly some of the desserts were a little disappointing. Local beers and house wines were perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced for such a hotel.

The breakfast area also looked out across the bay and you had a good choice from the hot and cold buffets or could have eggs cooked to order. Lunch was available from the poolside restaurant in a magnificent setting next to the cascading pools, also looking across the bay and we made use of this on our lazy days by the pool. The freshly cooked pizzas were big enough for two, and went well with a bowl of salad, washed down with a refreshing glass of wine or local beer, making a very good value lunch.

Sorrento itself is beautiful and relaxing but we also wanted to see some of the region. We decided in advance to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum and also the Amalfi Coast and had pre-booked two full day private tours with AP Tours, based in Sorrento. These turned out to be the highlights of our holiday and I would highly recommend both trips and also AP Tours (see separate review).

We also visited Capri simply by catching a mid morning ferry from the harbour and despite the torrential rain for much of the day, we still enjoyed the trip and found it very worthwhile.

We had a fabulous and memorable time in Sorrento and the Capodimonte exceeded our expectations. The location is superb with stunning views, the hotel is beautiful and even when full, did not seem crowded. The quality of food and drink was good and not too costly for a 4 Star hotel. We believe that you get what you pay for and felt that our stay at the Capodimonte represented excellent value for money.

Having said all that, the one thing that set this hotel above almost any other that we have stayed in, including 4/5 Star hotels around the world, was the service. Throughout our stay the level of SERVICE provided across the hotel was EXCEPTIONAL.

This was particularly noticeable on reception and in the restaurants. The staff were smart and professional but at the same time very friendly and they seemed to take a genuine interest and pride in their work. Nothing was too much trouble and it would be nice if all hotels had a similar approach and tried as hard to impress and please their paying guests.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are more expensive but worth the extra cost.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel and enjoyed every aspect of it. It is very "Grand" and opulent, with luxurious comfort and surroundings. The views are stunning, but do note, that this hotel does not actually face the bay, it is set in the hillside mostly overlooking the town of Sorento with the seaview and Vesuvius beyond. The higher your room, the better the view and from the top terrace of the top pool the views are breath taking. There is traffic noise at the front of the Hotel so if you want a peaceful room choose an idyllic terrace garden room at the back. The food is good (half board) but you can opt for A La Carte which is obviously expensive.
Service was excellent if not occasionally a little frantic at peak time, at dinner. Breakfast menu has wonderful choice buffet, all self service with hot and cold options, all set in the superb terrace restaurant with views over the town and bay.
There was live entertainment relaxed style on a couple of evenings most enjoyable or you could simply chill out in the lounge areas or the outside terraces. Our room was spacious and opulent with a very comfortable bed, and sparklingly clean.
Would we return to this hotel ? ...... Definitely !
P.S. Sorento is not for the disabled you need to be fairly sure footed as there are steps and uneven cobbled streets and lanes.

Just got back from one week at the Capodimonte Hotel in Sorrento, We have stayed her twice before so expected it to be good and we were not disappointed. The Hotel is spotless All of the staff are excellent very helpful pleasant cant do enough for you.
It has cascading Pools which are lovely you can get a Pool to yourself at times which is lovely Food at the poolside is very good and they also have an al a carte dining area which at night would be very nice.
Breakfast was good with a good choice if you are on half board you can opt to swop the evening for lunchtime, The evening menu was not the best we have had for a hotel of this quality but it was okay.
We upgraded to a premier room which was very good it overlooked the pool and was a good size and had all that you needed in it plus a balcony that you could sit on, the last time that we went we had a normal room which was on the road side it was very noisy no balcony to sit on and small, but of course up grading costs.
Drinks are quite expensive in the hotel but they are in many hotels, we would return here when we have saved up some more money.

Room Tip: overlooking the pool

Spent a lovely few days at The Grand Hotel Capodimonte, Sorrento, Italy. The 5 pools were just great, the breakfast busy but very good and as for the views - you couldn't get better. I would definately go back!

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view - it's a bit more expensive but it's like a living painting, you will...

Great location on a cliff overlooking the bay of Sorrento.the pool area is amazing. Easy walking to the center of the village. We had bed and breakfast only, so a reasonable price. Only set menu for dinner and lunch only available poolside. In the village there are some great restaurants. Room was fine but a little noisy from the road beneath. Lots of evening entertainments. Recommend!!!

What a fantastic location and such a beautiful pool area. It's worth paying extra for the sea view. The sight of Vesuvius first thing in the morning just lifts the spirits. Great food, fantastic service and tastefully decorated throughout. Will definitely return.
