Spent 7 days in a fantastic hotel, location, food, staff and service excellent, suggest a balcony with the most spectacular views over Sorrento and towards Vesuvius. Cannot fault the hotel.
You have to stay to appreciate, pool and terracing exceptional

We stayed here for 4 nights in late June on a bed and breakfast basis. Our room was on the 9th floor with a balcony with great sea and mountain views. The room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and very quiet. With our room, the internet and safe were complementary. We did however have to pay a small fee to use an iron and ironing board.

The public areas of the hotel were immaculate with stylish decor.
The location was excellent, only 10 minutes to the main square - far enough away to be a bit quieter but close enough to be still in the main action.

The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful.

The only negative was the food. Breakfast was ok, not great, but the dinner (set menu) we had there was awful. We mainly ate at restaurants in Sorrento for less money and better food.

We would definitely stay there again but eat out in the town.

Room Tip: A room with a sea view and balcony is worth the extra cost

We stayed here in May for our honeymoon. It was the perfect base with an amazing location.
We were on the 11th floor, with an amazing view over the bay, the room was fantastic. Large with a huge bathroom, lovely balcony and airconditioning. the complimentary toiletries were of a good standard and plenty of towels. Lots of storage space.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. all marble floors, intricate decor and high ceilings. Breakfast is great, loads of choic, everything from fruit, to cooked breakfast, freshly cooked eggs and omlettes, cakes and even pancakes on occasion. the views from the breakfast room are fantastic, and later in the year they let you eat on the terrace which im sure is lovely.
The pools are amazing, with loads of different terraces to choose from. You can sit in the sun, shade or a mixture of the two and there cant be better views from your sunbed anywhere!! The waiter service is good, but beware of the drinks prices. but hey, its a high class hotel and drinks prices everywhere in sorrento are high! The doughnuts at the bar are amazing mind.
Theres not much to do in way of activities here, so not a place for kids.
The staff are fantastic, polite and friendly and willing to do anything for you.
Restaurants...
Well, as people have already stated, il borgo is fantastic. ask reception to book a table and the courtesy car for you. the views are spectacular and i hear the sunsets (the one thing you dont get at capodimonte) are amazing. unfortunately when we went it was the one cloudy day so we didnt see! THe food was amazing and wine was very reasonably priced.
Z'intonios - fab. food was great, loads of choice. the best pasta and mozzerella in town!! very reasonable and lovely atmosphere.
Foreigners club - lovely view, nice food.
L'antica trattoria - high class restaurant, quite expensive but worth it.
The geletaria on the high street is amazing, about 100 odd flavours!!!

Capri is worth a visit, as is amalfi and positano. do pompeii but do it yourself, going on the train - save about100 euro!!

Defintely get a sea view in capodimonte if you can. this is hte best located hotel in sorrento. just out of town but close enough to walk in, a couple of shops and retaurants literally 10 seconds away. amazing holiday.

Room Tip: high floor, sea view is the way forward.

I liked this hotel a lot, great location, lovely views of Sorrento Bay & sea view rooms with balcony looking out towards Vesuvios. Great breakfasts, but dinner could be improved and not great value I'm afraid. I have to say that the layout of the weekly dinner buffet is rather chaotic.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view above 4th floor for best views

I stayed here for 7 nights on our honeymoon from the 3rd July 2012. Please see positive, negatives and info for your trip
Positives
1 - High class feel with the decor. Lovely marble floors, walls etc
2 - Perfect location. Far enough away to be away from the noise etc of Sorrento, but close enoough to walk in . 5-10 mins walk to the main square, 20 min walk to the harbour grande
3 - Amazing views over sorrento, the bay and Mount Vesuvius
4 - As long as you get a room high up, amazing views from your room with a balcony (room 620)
5 - 5 x swimming pools very fantastic. Loads of room for everyone and again, amazing views
6 - staff on the whole were friendly and helpful
7 - room was always clean and nice little touches like chocolates in each evening
8 - good variety for breakfast. The omlettes are spot on

Negatives
1 - drinks are very expensive. there is a shop 1 min walk away where you can buy water and drinks at local prices and then use your fridge. I think I paid 11 euros for a jack daniels and coke
2 - do not eat here for lunch and dinner. Use this hotel as a great base but get out into sorrento and surrounding areas to eat. 135 restaurants listed on trip advisor. I have heard bad things about the food so we stayed bed and breakfast with booking direct. I know Thomsons for example only offer half-board. DO NOT DO THIS. booking flights is so easy and the transfer is only an hour. We hired a car so even easier. We had lunch and the food was not good at all. Willl list a few great restaurants at the end
3 - you have to pay for the wi-fi if you are not in a top room
4 - you have to pay to use the safe
5 - be aware of the daily tourist charge 1.5 euros a day i think
6 - if you have one of the cheaper rooms, i have heard the road can be noisy and can hear rooms being cleared

I think alot of the negative reviews are due to people not knowing what charges there might be and then find out as a shock.

If you stay away from the food and dont buy too many drinks, I would very much recommend this hotel.

To save you some time, here are some restaurants to visit
Ristorante ll Borgo - the restaurant is 10 mins up in the hills from the hotel. They will pick you up and not drop you off back at your hotel with no charge. Great food and amazing view. Make sure you ask to sit outside. we had a 3 course meal with beers and a bottle of prosecco and the bill was around £70
Tavern Allegra - my favourite meal of the holiday. Lobster Linguine. Just amazing and at £20 for the dish, great price. Do not go here if you want a quiet night as the boss sings with a guitar player. They are great and you will have a lot of fun. we had 2 courses, beers and 2 bottles of prosecco - £70 again. could be a lot cheaper if you jst had normal dishes
Ristorante S.Antonino - I cant get over how this is only listed at number 23 on trip advisor. We ate there three times. Great service and the food is lovely if you stay away from the pizza (we didnt have one, just geard from others). On our last night, I actually vered away from Italian food and had a fillet steak. Just wonderful. £30-60
In Ravello go to Villa Amore for lunch - amazing views and very cheap

A few bits of info
keep with draft beer to keep it cheap
only drive over there if you are very confident. I lived out in Africa for 20 years and it was like that
try not to use taxis as they will rip you off
look around if you want to buy limoncello as price and quality varies quite alot

Room Tip: get one with a balcony looking over the bay on high floors

Hotel is very good choice for Sorrento, located a short and pleasant walk from the centre of the town. Outstanding features are the views, decor and fabulous pool. Food was also pretty good. Service was just okay, a little slow at times with that touch of Italian arrogance - but not off putting since you are in Italy! I think the room rates are on the high side, but I think this is par for course in Sorrento. Overall a good choice I think.

My wife and I stayed here for one week as part of a two centre holiday to celebrate our silver wedding. The hotel is in a near perfect position built up a hill with a great view across the Bay of Naples but with the entrance being at street level it is not a chore to reach. It is certainly a grand and quite imposing building. It was kept immaculately clean with well tended and lovely flora. Without exception the staff were friendly, efficient and polite and I would single out Marta, who greeted us on arrival for particular praise. As helpful as one could wish and with a sense of fun. The standard of food and service was very good both in the main restaurant and at the poolside restaurant. If we return to Sorrento I think it's likely we will stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was on level 7 with a good view over the bay but with the view of Mount Vesuvius slightly o...
