“Excellent stay in Sorrento”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

This hotel is in a superb location, just out of the town (5-10 minute walk), with great - no - breathtaking views from the swimming pools arranged on stepped terraces, and the restaurant across the Bay of Naples and overlooking Sorrento. We stayed for 7 nights in a prestige room on the 10th floor. The room could not be faulted on any level, and the same for the rest of the hotel, which was stylish and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful - especially Guisy who showed us to our breakfast table every day during our 7-night stay. The best thing is the ambience of the hotel, which is more suited to couples and families with older children, as indeed is the resort. We had one meal in the hotel (included with the prestige room), which was very good, but as we were on bed & breakfast ate out otherwise, which meant we could sample the excellent and reasonably priced restaurants in Sorrento and the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Request a prestige room; they are very well appointed, quiet, on the upper floors, and have great vi...

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Hotel Capodimonte in Sorrento. Having read reports on trip advisor we had a few concerns about the prices and swimming pool. I was so pleased with the hotel, (even though we got a room facing the step gardens at the back of the hotel). It was clean, stylish decor, friendly staff, good food, the pool was fine, everything we hoped for. I did however feel the hotel and sorrento was NOT a family holiday. The hotel did not allow balls in the pool and did ask children to be quiet and not to jump in the pool (our youngest is 8). As mentioned in other posts the drinks / bar bills do mount up - be careful! Bottle of wine €17 upwards, beer €5.50 (not a pint), coke €5 so with a family this gets expensive. BUT the hotel is good value compared with some local restaurants. The big rip off is Capri! c€34 per person return ferry to Capri, railway to Capri c€4 return Town and then BEWARE cafes are very expensive especially the drinks which don't appear in the menus! €7 for small bottle of coke!!! They work on charge high as tourist will not return. Small local beach in Sorrento very, very busy with black sand only other access to sea via private jetties €8 per person. Sorrento is quite pretty but travelling on local train to Pompie and Vesuvius was a shock! grafiti everywhere very scruffy. Trip up the volcaino €18 per person. In all a great holiday for a couple but not for a young family.

Room Tip: Go on the buss to Marina Del Cantone - good beach and the prices for lunch / drinks half that in Sor...

Expensive, but gorgeous hotel. Impeccably clean, polite staff. Had delicious meals there (breakfast and dinner). Be aware there is a dress-code for dinner (smart-casual, no shorts). Other guests were dressed more formally. Restaurant staff will seat you. No prices on menus, everything billed to your room number. Good buffet selection for breakfast with open seating. The restaurant on the terrace has a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Sorrento.

The pool is gorgeous, but is only open from 9am-6pm. We did not get there early enough to enjoy it, and the beach access was closed by then as well.

Our room had a small, but nice balcony, but the best part was an electronic shade that could completely block out the outside light while we slept. TV and stocked mini-fridge were also in the room.

It lacks first class service. This hotel will never reach "Capo" level. The the food was terrible. Quality for breakfast and dinner lack luster and feel more like being on a "cruise". Premade meals. The only descent meal we had, was by the pool restaurant which is always empty. A little expensive needless to say but good. The hotel seem to "nickle and dime" you for everything. We had a bad meal the third night at the main dining room and they didn't even wanted to make and adjusment on my final bill. Good experience, but will not stay there again next season.

Room Tip: if you are staying there get a room with a view preferrably on the top poolside area.

This hotel is a wolf in sheeps clothing, dissappointing on quite a few levels. We stayed 5 days in this hotel and overall it did not live up to expectations. Stunning location and beautiful to look at, pools were spectacular but that would be the olny good thing to say.
Service was to say the least dissappointing, breakfast a zoo with far too many people for the samll area. They did have an inside space but most people want to sit outside for breakfast and the terrace was just too small to accommodate everyone.
My husband had booked two rooms one for ourselves and one for his parents in the deluxe rooms. My in-laws room was as expected but our room was a fraction of the size that was advertised with a bathroom the size of a cupboard. My husband did take his concerns to reception as we felt we, at least if not moved could have expected a reduction in cost. Our complaint was dismissed totally with no reduction at the end of stay for the smaller room. Dissappointment all around and we will not be back.

We just spent 3 marvelous nights at the hotel. From the moment you walk up the drive you know it's going to be nice. Everything was spotless. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Even though we did not use the service you can even book excursions directly from hotel.
We had a very nice, large room overlooking the bay on the 7th floor. The higher the room the better the view, and what a view it is!
Room was very good, clean, comfortable bed, quiet and well maintained.
5 level pool is really nice, we spent our time on the highest level overlooking the bay. plenty of chairs, no need to rush in the morning to reserve one, pool side food and beverage service. Pool officially closes at 6 PM for cleaning but htey'll let you hang around until 7. Even though it's a bit early, it ensures that your outdoor dining in the evening is peaceful.
Food and service was very good in the restaurants, no need to go eat elsewher, you won't get a better view anyway.
Walk to downtown Sorrento takes about 10 minutes and is nothing to be afraid of.
One of the best places we've stayed around the world. wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Take a view on the bay, as high as you can, above 5 which is the reception and pool level. on 6 you...

A very good four star hotel in Sorrento. Went on holiday with my retired mum and was slightly worried about steep walks into the town, but the hotel was ideally placed and she coped fine. Hotel did not disappoint and all staff were very friendly, helpful, attentive to our needs and ready to make our holiday one to remember. We upgraded to a full sea view room and were not disappointed, our first morning waking to the Bay of Naples and Versuvius was brilliant. Everything was clean and the air conditioning worked well. The pools were lovely, especially at the top which offered such lovely views, well set out and plenty of sunbeds available all day. The pool lifeguard removed towels if people had left them slightly too long unattended which meant no-one could hog a sunbed if they were'nt using it!! Excellent. We had the half board option and it was well worth the price as excellent service and good recommendations to the specialities offered. It is possible to eat cheaper in Sorrento itself with pizza and pasta obtainable at 5-10 euros. Guisy & Raffeal in the restaurant absolutely brilliant as was Giovanni in the main bar. We had room 705 and was absolutely chuffed with everything. If you get a chance to do the Amalfi Drive or Ercolano trips do, well worth the money. Definately want to return as soon as possible.

Room Tip: Choose 700+........room 705 has a fantastic view which you never get tired of looking at
