Had a very enjoyable holiday in Grand Hotel Capodimonte. The rooms were spotless and staff very good. The views from hotel were fantastic & it was only a short walk into town.
We have stayed in other Manniello hotels before and are all excellent.

My wife and I stayed at the Capodimonte in Sorrento 2nd to 9th September on a half board basis. I have to say that I was mostly impressed by the place. Great vista from the hillside overlooking the town of Sorrento, the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Unfortunately, the location means it’s a bit of a trek to both the Port and the Railway Station for those all important excursions.

We paid for the sea view and enjoyed a few evenings on our balcony with a pre-dinner drink watching the sun go down – an upgrade well worth the money. The room was adequate, clean and nicely decorated. My only complaints about the room were that the windows came equipped with a motorised shutter instead of drapes, and there were no tea/coffee making facilities. As I normally wake up a couple of hours before my wife, I would normally excuse myself to the balcony to read until she wakes. Sea view rooms face due east and catch the rising sun, so between the brilliant sunlight and the noise from the shutter motor, there was no way to access the balcony without disturbing the wife. also, I didn't care much for the two single beds pushed together instead of a proper double.

Bathrooms are quite nice – lots of typically Italian ceramic and marble and a huge mirror over the basins. The complimentary grooming products were pretty uninspiring and nothing special. Bathrobes would have been nice too, but again, not provided.

Food from the lunch and dinner a la carte menus was pretty good, but I was a little disappointed in the half board menus in terms of both quality and choice. Breakfast is a bit of a trial at peak times with not a lot of room to move although the food was OK. They have a very nice, reasonably priced, wine list. If you’re there on Half Board, you don’t get a credit when you eat in the a la carte restaurant in the evening, just a 10% discount… after they’ve added 15% service.

The largely child-free pool area is fabulous with sun beds available at all times . The sun beds have two positions – almost sitting-up and almost lying-down! These are supplemented by matching deckchairs.

Entertainment at the hotel was a bit lacking. We caught the ‘Lifeguard in Concert’ a couple of times, and saw a couple of Herberts with guitars/mandolins wandering around the bar area on one occasion. Having eaten out in town 4 of the 7 nights, the hotel was always very quite on our return with nothing to entice you to stay in the bar.

All in all though, a nice hotel and a nice holiday. If I were staying again, I think I’d stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Room Tip: Stay on a Bed & Breakfast basis - The a la carte choice and quality are far better than the Half...

Dear Sir,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to write such a detailed review regarding your recent stay in our hotel.

We are glad you liked the typical decor of our room, with local Sorrento furniture and the breathtaking views provided by our hotel. About the shutter, we have to say that it is often mentioned by our guest as one of the best things available in the rooms, since once it is completely shut it completely isolate them from any external noise, a thing normal drapes cannot do.

Thanks also for your remarks about food and our extensive wine list; as for entertainment we have piano 4 times a week, mostly by the pool area (only on Saturdays by the lounge bar or when weather is chilly), the “herberts” you saw on Thursday and a singer on Tuesdays..so actually 6 out of seven days a week.

We are delighted you appreciated your holiday and we are already looking forward to welcoming you again as soon as possible

Best regards

Beautiful hotel with poor food and service
Room was very clean and nice but small especially as we had upgraded to deluxe so that we had a good view. There are no tea and coffee facilities in the room, you are recommended not to drink the water but they don't provide any free it's €3.5 per bottle, so it even costs you to brush your teeth! The room had a lovely view from the balcony but there was hardly any room to sit as it was very narrow and the chairs were metal and very uncomfortable.
Breakfast was buffet style but not good not really much choice
Food was very bad in the restaurant it was Luke warm, tasteless and no choice of side dishes everything was on your plate the small amount of vegetables you were given was either mashed or pale and anaemic looking, again you had to pay for water and wine and drinks were very over priced, we were charged €22.50 one night for a bottle of house white which was really awful we saw the same bottle in supermarket the next day for €5.50 I know it's always dearer but €17.0 more a bit much! The pool bar menu was better choice but they had 2 menus and as soon as they knew you were half board and had swapped dinner for lunch they changed the menu so you are back to the same as the evening one again. Some of the staff were very nice, especially a girl called Guisey
The Matre D was very abrupt and unhelpful. We ended up only eating in hotel 5 times and ate out in the town .There are some wonderful restaurants and bars there and so much cheaper than the hotel.
The hotel kept clean but not spotless the pool area was never swept the lifeguard who issued the towels was very rude and abrupt you would have thought the towels were his own property!
Entertainment was very poor they had a pianist in the pool terrace bar a couple of nights per week but this was the life guard who wasn't very good, we didn't go into the bar at night as it was like a large lounge with stunning views but no atmosphere and extortionate prices. We requested a glass of ice to take up to our room so we could have a drink on the balcony and were asked if it was for an injury?these days most hotels have ice machines or ice buckets available to guests.
The maids were really nice and do a really good job
The last night our air conditioning unit leaked over the tiled floor so when we got backI fell in the water and hurt both knees and arms when a porter was sent to look at it the panel was so wet that it broke in 2 parts. Nobody came to see if I was ok I could have ended up in plaster.
This was our 20th wedding anniversary and was very disappointing. We normally go long haul but thought we would go back to Europe but wished we hadn't
Sorrento itself is very nice a lot of walking some really good excursions are available but easier and cheaper to do on your own
I maybe would go back one day but definitely not this hotel, it's overrated and well overpriced
We could have stayed in Mexico for 2 weeks for less than 11 nights here and that's all inclusive!!!

Dear Guest,

We are always happy when our guests provide us feedback and we thank you for sharing your experience at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte with the Trip Advisor community, we would only like to point out some remarks.

Firstly, we are very surprised since by reading your review it seems that you enjoyed only the view from the room and the design of the hotel; especially your comments about the staff made us wonder, since their courtesy and professionalism are one of our best assets, as certified by hundreds of positive reviews here on TA.

About the prices, those are similar to prices of other hotels of the same standard in Sorrento: by the way a bottle of house wine is 17,00 €, not 22,50 € as you reported (you probably had something else together with the wine), while a bottle of water in the room is € 3,00.

Again, we are also surprised by your comments about the breakfast and food in general, since we often get complimented for it by our guests for quality and variety; moreover the menu you have while swapping dinner for lunch is completely different from the dinner one and not the same as you erroneously reported.

We apologize if you had any problems or misunderstanding with some of our staff, especially with our talented lifeguard, who is also a music teacher been playing the piano for over 30 years now and graduated at the conservatory.

However we are sorry if we did not live up your expectations, we will learn from this experience and improve our level of service in order to show you how much we have improved.

Best Regards

Just spent 1 week here, half board, room on 6th floor with sea view.
Lovely, clean (thanks to Maria), well appointed room, with fantastic views over the town and bay.
Very welcoming and helpful staff. We arrived with no suitcases (still at Gatwick and arrived after 48 hours) the front desk team went out of their ways to help us, special mention to Marta who was always cheerful and personable.
As to food we ate either lunch or dinner in the hotel. Good menu which was fine for 7 days. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the food and thoroughly enjoyed our meals esp the veal and swordfish. It's not gourmet but good for hotel food. The staff could be a little moody ie typically Latino but really not a problem.
Attractive grounds, pool area interesting and clean. The public rooms were all spotless, airy and the bar and waiting staff went out of their way to help and serve us.
Great position for walking down to Sorrento with its mix of other restaurants.
Our only 2 complaints were: the room towels were awful, thin and rough - the pools towels were better! And there should be a bottle of complimentary water in each room daily.
Thought it was a great hotel and would recommend it and revisit for another week's break.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view, it is worth it.

Thank you very much for your lovely review regarding your recent stay in our hotel.

We are glad you appreciated the decor of the room, the courtesy and professionalism of our staff and the quality and variety of the meals.

One of our greatest asset are the public areas, from which you can enjoy the view while sipping a cocktail prepared by our excellent bar staff, together with our location close to the cit center but far enough not to be bothered by any noise.

Thank you for recommending us, we are already looking forward to your next visit.

We stayed at Capodimonte in July. Perfect for my family. We had a lovely room, very clean, with a little patio that overlooked Vesuvius. The tiered pools were refreshing after a day of touring. The hotel is a short walk into town. The complimentary breakfast was awesome. But, our trip to Sorrento was really great because we used Justin at Italian Tourism (http://italiantourism.us/amalfi-coast-holidays/), who planned our trip, hooked us up with great hotels, and organized incredible tours. He customized everything for us. The highlight of our time in Sorrento was an archaeology day with a private car and driver and interesting tours of Pompeii and Stabiae.
