Grand Hotel Capodimonte
Ranked #26 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 April 2014

This hotel is simply stunning with gleaming mirrored glass and spotless marble floors beautifully complemented by the exquisite and tasteful furnishings in the light filled and spacious reception, lounge and panoramic dining room. The cleanliness and hygiene throughout was superlative. The excellence continued up to the roof terraces that command the majestic visa of the harbour that bring ocean going ships to the spectacular small town of Sorrento and hence to Capri. I was only going to stay one night but felt so cosseted and welcome, I felt compelled to stay two. I felt like Hercule Poirot might as I explored this magnificent hotel, waiting to bump into exotic foreign emissaries from around the world. My room continued the theme with a dignified silence and I fell into the arms of Morpheus with abandon and did not wake till first light. I then had a breakfast of the first order in the very well staffed Dining room by liveried waiters who glided about ensuring every guest need was anticipated and delivered before asking. The Chef employed purely to cook the eggs to order, in any fashion, was simply a culinary delight. This is the standard every 5 star hotel should aspire to and this is a 4 star. Absolutely faultless and a singular delight.....it made my trip to Italy unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Room Tip: I would imagine any room in this establishment will exceed expectation

Dear Guest,

What can we say except: Grazie for this wonderful review, full of poetry and that brings out the best for our hotel.

You've given us a smile by your comparison of our hotel with the stories of Agatha Christie. Actually, at the beginning our hotel seems a bit like a labyrinth, as it is built on a mountain side and has several separate “blocks”.

Thank you so much for having described in a such original way our facility, we hope to have you back soon as our guest, we send our

We left this hotel a few days ago and I would happily go back for another visit! The views are spectacular from all areas - the bar, the restaurant, and even the balcony of our room. That's the secret of the greatness of this place - it's situated up the slope a little bit away from the craziness of town and with stunning views - but it's only an easy 5 minute walk and you are right in the heart of everything!

Our room was lovely and well-appointed with beautiful tiles in the style of the area and light bright colours. The only small issue we had was that our towels were taken away but not replaced by housekeeping one day, but a quick call to reception and new towels were brought up within minutes - and that was the general style of the hotel - all the staff we met or spoke to were very efficient and friendly.

Breakfast was wonderful and comprehensive with pastries, bread, yoghurt, meats and cheeses, fruit salad etc etc - pretty much everything you could think of was there! Fresh fruit slices (orange, grapefruit and pineapple) and eggs cooked to order by chefs in front of you were my personal breakfast highlights. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and thus we were treated to a panoramic view of the sea and the town of Sorrento while eating - what a great way to start the day!

The hotel has a pool as well, but unfortunately it was too cold and windy to use it while we were there - but we did take a look at the pool terrace and thought it would be an absolutely amazing place to hang out in summer - there was a lovely bar area, and tables and chairs all with that wonderful view again! - perhaps an excuse for a return visit? :)

Last but not least we really enjoyed spending time relaxing in the bar of an evening and looking at darkness falling over the town and the sea while sipping a relaxing drink and partaking of some of the complimentary bar snacks (nuts, chips, crackers and olives). It was a very hospitable atmosphere, and we even had a casual dinner in the bar one night when we had eaten a lot during the day - the food was tasty and hit the spot.

In short, this was a classy, spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed four star hotel in a stunning location with very good customer service - and I would be very happy to stay here again!

This hotel is just perfect it's location offers the most stunning views and is a very short easy walk to the shops and main square of Sorrento. The staff are so efficient and helpful particularly in the restaurant where they couldn't have been more welcoming. We were on half board and stayed for a week and the food was consistently excellent with an extensive menu which changed twice. The rooms are delightfully furnished and I think it is well worth paying for a sea view although all the public rooms have stunning views. This was our first stay but we will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 408 and had fantastic views and no noise.

Location, value for money and superb service.
Location: the views from the breakfast room, dinner terrace and the many swimming pools must rate as the best on the Naples/Amalfi coast! Whether for a romantic break or longer you never tire of the stunning scenery. We went in late summer and were enraptured.
Value for money: Not the cheapest hotel in Sorrento but you get what you pay for. If you take all aspects of a holiday into account this hotel tucks all the boxes.
Superb service: the staff could not do enough to help us.
We will return again and again.....

Really enjoyed the experience in this hotel and I think during the summer is even better when you can use the swimming pool and sipping a drink on the terrace in front of the Vesuvio!

Hotel Location: Great! 10-20min walk from town centre, train station and the port.

Breakfast really wide and includes espresso and cappuccino just ask to the friendly staff.

Rooms big, nice and clean.

Staff very friendly and helpful at anytime.

Thanks

Vincenzo

We stayed at this hotel for five nights (beginning of April 2014) and it was our first time away with our 11 month old son, so we were worrying about everything! We knew that to have a cot in the room was going to cost us an additional Euros19 a night, but they let us have a look at it before we committed to having it (it was fine, so we had it - he didn't sleep in it much, but it doubled as a playpen in the room).
The hotel was beautiful, outstanding views from the numerous terraces, gorgeous purple blossoms shedding their fragrant petals all over the place - gorgeous.
We booked a cheap room at the back of the hotel, we knew the view was of a limestone wall - but luckily the limestone wall was actually a very steep terrace with flowers and plants. We had a balcony with table and chairs - so it wasn't what we expected, far better - our 'wall view' ;)
We ate at one of the pool bars on the first day, then in the main restaurant a couple of times, and had room service. All were excellent. Breakfasts were plentiful and varied, with a breakfast chef cooking eggs and omelettes to order. The waiting staff were super-helpful, sterilising my baby's cups and providing what we needed. The only slight criticism was that there was only 1 high chair in the whole hotel (from what we could gather) and it was a little tired, had paint on it and I am glad I took my Milton antibacterial wipes - but it was the start of the season and I don't think they'd had any babies stay recently (I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt because they were so good with everything else).
I would like to say that the lady on reception (sorry, I don't know her name) was exceptional. She went out of her way to help us with any query, from getting to the airport to going up Vesuvius - she was brilliant. Also sorted us out with an additional key so my husband wasn't trapped in the room with us!
The hotel was a short stroll from the town - really easy, nice gentle slope. There's a lovely little waterfall just at the side of the hotel too (at the side of the road on the way to the town).
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, it was super. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel, you were great!!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back don't have a view, but the bars/lounges/restaurants all do - so don't...

We are very happy that you have had a lovely holiday here with us and with all your beautiful family.

You've written a lot of good things about our hotel and for this we thank you very much and we are happy that you loved the room and its balcony and indeed they have been more to your expectations.

Our sea view rooms or garden view are all beautiful, spacious and bright and of course we are always very careful about cleaning that is crucial for us.
