This hotel must have one of the best locations in the whole of Sorrento. Our balcony had views over the town, the bay and Vesuvious (well worth spending a bit extra on the room to get the spectacular view). Away from the noisy centre but only a pleasant 10 minute walk to Piazza Tasso. Many amazing terraces and a beautiful pool area. Good buffet breakfast was included also.

The hotel interior is nice though not quite 5 star, and we found the mattress a bit on the firm side - other than that we couldn't fault it.

If arriving into Sorrento via train station, the walk to the hotel is less than 15 minutes. If you haven't got much luggage consider walking and don't get stung by a taxi to the tune of 20 euros like we did!!!

I would have no hesitation in recommending this 4 star hotel. Spacious, clean, airy, bright, marble and tiled floors everywhere. Beautifully furnished with flowers everywhere. Our spotless room (deluxe) had a marvellous view of both the town and sea and was beautiful. It did not have teamaking facilities but there was a complimentary bottle of chilled white wine on our arrival. There was some noise from passing traffic but acceptable and did not disturb sleep. The breakfast was well appointed with plenty fruit, juices, cereals, breads, cold meats plus cooked eggs bacon sausages and potatoes. The hotel has two restaurants one for breakfast and one for evening dinner, both having marvellous views of Sorrento Bay and Vesusius. I did find though, that the service was somewhat poor for evening dinner we waited a long time for drinks to appear and the quality of the fixed menu food was average for such a splendid hotel, it was overcooked. Perhaps because the restaurant was full to capacity that evening, I give the benefit of the doubt. We ate in town other nights. The hotel bar is beautiful with very comfortable couch seating and great staff that were most attentive. Location wise could not be better, three minutes walk from town with shopping and restaurants close at hand. There is a busy road outside the hotel which one must cross to the footpath but it has a pedestrian crossing so thats okay. Never trust drivers to stop as you stand at a crossing, they will not stop until you place a foot on the road first. Overall an admirable hotel and yes I would return. We used public transport everywhere, very good bus service in the area.

We stayed at the Capidimonte Hotel in Sorrento on a bed and breakfast basis and had a really great week. There was a great choice of food which was well presented at breakfast time. The outdooor swimming pools were clean and there were plenty of sunbeds available. W stayed in rooms 515 and 516. Room 516 was slightly larger than 515 and had a better view of the bay of Naples. The hotel was ideally located just a 5 minute walk into Sorrento where we ate at a diiferent restaurant every night. The hotel staff were adequate, not really keen on giving info on local buses or trains preferring to offer their expensive organised trips. We booked a taxi in advance from the UK which cost £102 from Viator to take us from Naples airport to the hotel. He was the worst driver, we felt like we were on a scary ride at Alton Towers for over an hour. For the return jouney we booked a taxi on the net from Giovanni MARESCA at [--]> > > > www.johnnystourservice.com> > > > [--]> > > > Professional, experience, congenial This was a fantastic service which cost 80 euros for 4 passengers and 4 suitcases. Truly professional service Giovanni talked about the history of the country and it was a relaxing smooth drive. We visited Franks bar because we had read good reviews on trip advisor it was nothing but home spun karaoke without the fun!! and the drinks were really expensive. The boat trip to Capri was wonderful but you would need to have a great deal of surplus cash to buy any of the clothes there. A must is a visit to Pompei and Mount Vesuvius. Look forward to going back to Sorrento

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte. We had booked the room for 1 night from an Italian website. Unfortunately, it was 2km from the train station, not 200m, as the website said. My sister and her husband were with us, and we walked from the train station - my sister is diabetic and had an attack of low blood sugar. I think I may have annoyed one of the desk clerks because I was very angry about this. However, my sister finally made it.

The hotel is gorgeous - built into the mountainside, it is well-appointed and has unbelievable views. The hotel occupies multiple levels up the mountain, and has a system of gorgeous tiled outdoor swimming pools on some of the upper levels. The views were breathtaking from just about every place in the hotel.

The only downside was that some of the rooms are musty, and dust or mold made it almost impossible to sleep on the second night. I would definitely stay here again!

After our stay in October 2009 we sent this letter to the Managing director of the hotel, and the best way to describe our experiences is to show the letter to everyone. We never got any comments from the hotel.
Our letter:

Att.: Managing director of Grand Hotel Capodimonte.

Saturday the 10.th of October we left Grand Hotel Capodimonte after a weeks stay in room 303, and we feel that we need to tell you some things about our experiences.

First of all, I, Lone Christensen, have spent several months planning this vacation, which was a birthday present for our granddaughter.

During theese months, I have made a heavy research, which showed me, that your hotel would be the right place for us. This research also told me NOT to book your suites, due to a lot of noise from the street as well as from the restaurant. That is why, we chose a prestige room. We booked the prestige room 3 month ago.

Furthermore, one week ahead of our arrival, we emailed the hotel, that we would not need a transfer from the airport (due to the fact, that you were to expensive), but that our expected time of arrival would be appr. 12.00, and that we were looking forward to our stay. As the hotel have check-in time at 14.00, this should not have been a problem.

Before our arrival the hotel choose to withdraw the payment of our stay, which went wrong due to the fact, that I, in the meantime, had got a new visa-card.
In stead of showing us the courtesy of waiting untill our e.t.a., our reservation were just cancelled and no one found it necessary to inform us about this.

At our arrival we were told by the receptionist, that we could stay for a few days, and then we could get a room at another hotel. This was NOT acceptable to us, so my husband asked for a talk with the reception manager.

He then did try to save the situation by giving us the suite, but actually, this was the room, we had chosen NOT to book, but at this point, we felt, we had no other option, than to agree to the suite or move around in different rooms/hotels.
I have spent a whole week feeling very angry and unpleasant inside, since my research had shown the right picture: we had a LOT of noise the whole week through. Our granddaughter could not fall asleep in the evening and was awake early in the morning due to furniture moving in the restaurant above.

I could of course have told you this, when we were at the hotel, but we wanted our granddaughter to have as pleasant a stay as possible, and we would not have been able to do this , if I had shown my deep and heavy anger. This is the reason for this letter.

The hotel is placed in a magnificent spot for vacation, and it is an exciting building, well furnished and with a fantastic view of the bay of Naples.

On top of this we must say, that the roommaids do a brilliant job, allways nice and clean in the room, so absolutely no problems there, whatsoever.

The food at the hotel is also a thing to mention. Very, very good and tasty. Wellprepaired and good looking.

Then we come to another point, that we need to say some things about: The managing of restaurant staff.

First of all, we got the impression, that you do not trust anyone of your employes (except for the reception staff) to handle money. This is for us a bad signal about security of the hotel.

If we eat in a restaurant, at Grand Hotel Capodimonte or elsewhere, we expect to be able to pay our bill right away. In your case, we didn’t even knew the amount of money, that we had to pay. For us it is definately not acceptable to have to sign a papir, written in italian, with no amount of money present. Actually you have no idea, what you are signing for. And yes, you can pay at the reception, but the hotel do not give the customers a specified receipt, so as a customer you are not able to check anything.
It is definately not good enough just to wright: food, this much and beverage, this much. Due to this system we tried to avoid spending money at the hotel.

Then there is a most anoying system of wright and wrong waiters. One day at the pool restaurant we sat allmost 20 minutes waiting to order, looking at three idle waiters, that could not take the order, since they were not the wright ones. But at least, one waiter can take the whole order at the pool.
In the restaurant however it is a different story.
The system about a lot of different waiters, number 1 to show you to the table, number 2 to take the order of food, number 3 to take the order of beverage, number 4 to serve the food, number 5 to serve the beverage, number 6 to make you sign for the food, number 7 to make you sign for the beverage and number 8 to clear the table, makes eating at hotel Capodimonte a rather cold and unpersonalized experience, which certainly scared us away.

At the galla buffet, which is highly recommendable (were it not for the above mentioned facts), we ordered beverage (according to the fact, that we are not big drinkers) one glass of red wine, one glass of prosecco, a bottle of water and a lemon soda for the little one. In came everything except for the prosecco, which had to be served by another waiter! Almost finished eating, the prosecco finally came.

One day after a daytrip to Pompeji, Vesuvio and Ercolano, we promised the little one, that she could go to the pool, since all the signs said, that it would be open untill 18.00. We arrived at 17.30, just to find out, that it had been cut off by ropes. The waiter at the pool told us, that it had closed, but since we had a very disappointed little girl, whe choose to reopen it ourselves.

So this ends our story about, why we did NOT enjoy our stay at Grand Hotel Capodimonte, but we succeeded in hiding most of it from our grandaughter, so she at least had a wonderfull week, allthough she was extremely tired after this “vacation”.

Before publishing our opinion about Grand Hotel Capodimonte at Tripadvisor.com, we wanted to give you the chance of commenting this letter.

Fantastic Hotel. We were there at the very end of the season so the hotel was half empty but that did nothing to change the welcome and quality of service. The view from the restaurant was simply stunning.

Nice quiet room but alot of stairs and lifts needed!!
