“My wonderful Italian holiday”
Reviewed 18 June 2011

I have been visitng the Grand Hotel Vesuvio, Sorrento for many years. Each year I vist I am more impressed at the high standard of service, cleanliness and friendlness of the hotel & it's staff. Nothing is too much trouble & they go out of their way to help make your stay special.
From the moment you arrive you receive a warm welcome from the reception staff, who will go out of their way to assist your every need. The food is delicious, with a varied menu to suit all palates. It there is something you don't like or cannot eat just speak to Nino the Restaurant Manager who will arrange to give you something you enjoy. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout, the bedrooms are well appointed & the rooms are cleaned to a very high standard every day. You can smell the freshness when you open the door of your room when the maid has cleaned it. The hotel bar is beautiflly maintained, neat & tidy. The Bar Manager Franco & his team of Michele, Vincenzo & Giovanni are very welcoming.
Although the hotel is outside of Sorrento it has a free courtsey coach which runs during the morning but stops at 12.30pm resuming at 16.30 & ending at 23.30. My mother has walking difficulties & the hotel bus driver kindly puts her rollator on board the bus & has a step that he uses for her to stand on to make it easier for her to get on & off the coach. The hotel has ample help for those who are unable to climb steps as there are three lifts & a number of disabled slopes for easy use. This is also true around the large pool area, which has lots of sunbeds for use. It has a kiddies pool, jacuzzi & large pool which is well maintained & cleaned. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch at the pool side restaurant or a refreshing drink or coffee.
I have just returned from my annual visit & really had a special time there. I went to celebrate a special birhtday & the hotel made it a very special time for me & my family. I got a welcome & celebration fit for royaltay something I will always cherish & remember. No matter where else I go the Grand Hotel Vesuivo is very hard to beat & it is the only hotel that I would return to year after year. When you do visit you will find that lots of other people are returning visitors to the hotel & like me have been going for many years. We can't all be wrong about how excellent it is! Go & try it for yourself.

When we arrived at the hotel it was raining terribly and while our trip was long, i was most impressed with how willing the staff wanted to assist with our every need. Their attention I would rate as a 5 star hotel. They were willing to accomodate us when there was a mix-up with our tour which noone showed and yet they were willing to find ways to make our stay pleasant and obtain the necessary credits. The view is truly beautiful. THe hotel does need updating in the rooms, other than that. I would be willing to stay again simply for the service and dedication to deliver superior customer service.

Beautiful, clean hotel. We had a lovely room with a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvio overlooking the huge pool area. Very friendly staff from the front desk to the breakfast and dinner service. Nino was absolutely charming. Breakfast was quite good but the dinner was very good, one night was three course with a choice from three for each course. The second night was a buffet bar-b-que which had lovely grilled shrimps, lots of salads, etc. more than enough offerings to please anyone. Bar staff were lovely as well. Excellent choice for the Sorrento coast, a bit out of town but they offer a free hotel shuttle. Free wi-fi in lobby only. Go for for the view! It's lovely!

We were on a tour and Hotel chosen by tour company. Hotel is large and cavenous. Might be good in high season with larger crowds. Spectacular view over coastline and bay. Room large and well fitted out, even if a little dated. Only let down was food, which is made to price certainly not to be interesting. They should offer an option of 1 good course rather than three mediocre ones. The dining room was 1/4 full so Kitchen should not have been pressed. Location 15 minutes out of town but view compensated for that.

Room Tip: Make sure you book ocean side rooms.

This hotel felt cold and unwelcoming. Granted, it was slightly off-season, but we arrived mid day and found only the hotel desk assistant in the gigantic lobby. It felt like a ghost town. I think this hotel serves as a place for large senior citizen tour groupsThe room we saw was cold with a tiled floor, and as the wireless internet was not working as promised, we chose to leave without actually spending a night. It was pricy for what it was, and not centrally located--probably fine for a relaxing getaway, but we would not recommend this if you are hoping to explore Sorrento. Admittedly, the rooms are clean, the views are spectacular, and to her credit the girl at the front desk was friendly and really did try to help.

Came to this hotel on a tour. Initally found the reception staff to be stuck up in their own perceived importance, which didn't sit well with this laid back Australian. Hotel was very nice! Bell boys, elevators, bar, pool, pool bar, pool chairs, restaurant etc... Rooms were nice and did the job. Pool was awesome and we found ourselves relaxing for many hours. The food in the restaurant was ordinary to say the least, but the food in the pool area was much better.

Hotel runs a shuttle service to take guests into town, which was easy and convenient. Free WiFi in multiple locations inkling pool area.

Amazing views on the coast and the mount.

Head to the roof top to take it all in!

Stayed here in October 2010 as part of the Titan HiTours Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast trip. I cannot fault this hotel in any way. The staff were polite and had a great sense of humour. Most of the staff spoke very good English and they were happy to help me with my struggling Italian too. The bar staff and the waiting staff in the dining room were attentive and professional.

The hotel itself is lavish and beautifully decorated. The rooms were kept well stocked and spotlessly clean and equipped with sky tv (with the option of watching some programmes in either english or italian). Our room had a balcony with a sea view which was absolutely stunning. There are no pavements on the roads leading away from the hotel. The roads are narrow and, at times, extremely busy meaning that it is difficult to walk anywhere locally. However, there is a shuttle bus which runs between the hotel and the main town of Sorrento at selected times in the morning and the evening (shops are generally closed between 11:00 and 16:00-ish). The shuttle service was efficient and ample for our needs.

The food was varied enough to cater for most tastes, in my opinion, and was nice enough. Some people said the cost of food was pricey but I would have put it on par with london prices (approx 4 euros for a beer, approx 10-15 euros for a main dish).

All in all, an utterly charming place to stay. A perfect place for a romantic getaway, or just a getaway in general. Grazie Grand Hotel Vesuvio :)
