We stayed at the Hotel Vesuvio during our trip to Rome for Holy Week festivities. A long bus trip to Napoli then Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii, finally ending up in lovely Sorrento. The hotel was clearly a showplace in it's day, now it's adequate. The food also satisfactory, but nothing special. The view from the hotel was spectacular, but our room overlooked the back of the kitchen and a few other rooms -- nothing we wanted to see. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Sorrento is worth the drive, but the hotel was average for the money. The hotel did help us hire a car and driver for a day trip to down the amalfi coast which was spectacular!!!

A hugely enjoyable week at this exceptionally spacious, very comfortable hotel overlooking the bay of Naples, 2km from the town, accessed by a 1st class free shuttle service. Spacious, traditionally decorated bedrooms are unfussy but well appointed with generous balconies. The hotel features a glorious veranda/bar with spectacular views and great attention from the charming Michele & Franco.

Exceptionally spacious, elegant interior areas include a huge restauarant with bay views and an impressive internal bar. Nino, the hotels maitre'd is the hotels jewel in the crown - wonderfully attentive at all meals, overseeing an excellent restaurant, tirelessly at breakfast, lunch (pool bar/restaurant) & dinner. Nino's sense of humour caused infectious laughter at most tables at most meals ! Isn't this what holiday's are all about ? Let Nino make your meal choice for you - you won't be disappointed !

A vast swimming pool with plenty of good quality sunbeds was never over crowded, with many guests opting for local sightseeing. Sorrento just a few minutes away is charming with friendly locals and a magnificent choice of wonderful restaurants.

A bit of real Italy offering the best of both worlds with a peacefully situated hotel and the great buzz of the town close at hand. Looking forward to goin back at some stage.

Room Tip: For relaxing or sightseeing

We just loved this ART DECO style hotel. Huge public areas, big clean rooms, handy shuttle bus into town, good breakfast. BIG POOL.

I have been visitng the Grand Hotel Vesuvio, Sorrento for many years. Each year I vist I am more impressed at the high standard of service, cleanliness and friendlness of the hotel & it's staff. Nothing is too much trouble & they go out of their way to help make your stay special.
From the moment you arrive you receive a warm welcome from the reception staff, who will go out of their way to assist your every need. The food is delicious, with a varied menu to suit all palates. It there is something you don't like or cannot eat just speak to Nino the Restaurant Manager who will arrange to give you something you enjoy. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout, the bedrooms are well appointed & the rooms are cleaned to a very high standard every day. You can smell the freshness when you open the door of your room when the maid has cleaned it. The hotel bar is beautiflly maintained, neat & tidy. The Bar Manager Franco & his team of Michele, Vincenzo & Giovanni are very welcoming.
Although the hotel is outside of Sorrento it has a free courtsey coach which runs during the morning but stops at 12.30pm resuming at 16.30 & ending at 23.30. My mother has walking difficulties & the hotel bus driver kindly puts her rollator on board the bus & has a step that he uses for her to stand on to make it easier for her to get on & off the coach. The hotel has ample help for those who are unable to climb steps as there are three lifts & a number of disabled slopes for easy use. This is also true around the large pool area, which has lots of sunbeds for use. It has a kiddies pool, jacuzzi & large pool which is well maintained & cleaned. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch at the pool side restaurant or a refreshing drink or coffee.
I have just returned from my annual visit & really had a special time there. I went to celebrate a special birhtday & the hotel made it a very special time for me & my family. I got a welcome & celebration fit for royaltay something I will always cherish & remember. No matter where else I go the Grand Hotel Vesuivo is very hard to beat & it is the only hotel that I would return to year after year. When you do visit you will find that lots of other people are returning visitors to the hotel & like me have been going for many years. We can't all be wrong about how excellent it is! Go & try it for yourself.

When we arrived at the hotel it was raining terribly and while our trip was long, i was most impressed with how willing the staff wanted to assist with our every need. Their attention I would rate as a 5 star hotel. They were willing to accomodate us when there was a mix-up with our tour which noone showed and yet they were willing to find ways to make our stay pleasant and obtain the necessary credits. The view is truly beautiful. THe hotel does need updating in the rooms, other than that. I would be willing to stay again simply for the service and dedication to deliver superior customer service.
