Pros:
- large rooms
- comfortable beds
- beautiful large swimming pool with jacuzzi and air bubble seating area with loads of sun loungers
- bar prices including the pool bar are reasonable
- working air conditioning in rooms
- non-auto minibar can be used as fridge
- excellent breakfast with large choice (cereal, pastries, yoghurts, fresh fruit, toast, cold meats and cheese although hot food limited to eggs)
- large in room safe

Cons
- balcony furniture needed replaced
- only 2 power sockets in the room, one round euro one non earthed
- restaurant is aimed at tours in the evening and whilst the food is good it is basic
- many sites say free wifi although it's actually €5 for 3 hours and mobile signal is poor if you have European data included - no 3G
- no tea making facilities or iron in the room

Niggles
- water has been turned off a few times overnight (midnight to around 3am) which was annoying when we got back late
- main room lights occasionally flashed at night even when turned off!
- there is an excellent free hotel bus although it doesn't run in the afternoon and finishes shortly after 11 which is too early given most eat late. It is however only a 20 minute uphill walk
- pool closed at 7pm and had no reason too as it was still light. Really annoying when you come back hot after a long day out and want to cool off.
- rooms all appear to be smoking although you don't smell it
- no power near the bed although leaping across the room to turn off your phone alarm is one sure way to wake up
- tap water has odd taste although it seems common to Sorrento. Bottled is however cheap

Overall really enjoyed our stay here

I stayed here with 9 family members at the end of July during a 2 week trip to Italy, including 2 other cities/hotels. This was my least favorite place that we stayed. The hotel felt very "Amercanized". The breakfast food was not good and I often waited to go to town to eat. We ate one lunch and one dinner at the hotel, the food was the worst I had eaten on my trip and would not recommend eating there. The staff in the dining room was very pleasant and courteous. My sister had put her bathing suit on the balcony of the hotel room to dry and it had fallen down onto another rooms balcony. When she approached the front desk to ask for assistance the staff member was very rude and she had to ask several times before he agreed to retrieve her suit for her.

We spent a week at Grand Hotel Vesuvio in the most basic of rooms - it was basic but very clean and pleasant.
The staff were really friendly (especially Nino) and helpful. Our wardrobe door broke and was mended immediately.
The shuttle is great - we found it went often enough. We never walked into town as the shuttle provided what we needed - plus the walk looked dangerous on a busy narrow road.
Sorrento was great - we would recommend taking a cruise to Positano / Amalfi if you get the chance and trying lots of the restaurants.
We always got a lounger by the pool at all times - plus all loungers appeared to remain in the sun all day which is a bonus!
The only thing I think let the hotel down was breakfast. The choice was monotonous, the bread dry and I think they could have provided more hot options. I skipped the last 2 breakfasts as it wasn't enough to motivate me to get up! Lunch by the pool was pleasant though...

Room Tip: Paying more for sea view is probably worth it but the other rooms were pleasant too..

Just returned from a trip to Sorrento staying at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio for a week!

Had a fab time with my partner and can not compliment the staff more. They could not do more for us while we were guests.

The evening food was excellent , very professional service offered by way of 3 course meal! Also experienced 2 buffet evenings one being a barbecue which was great!

The breakfast is a little basic but lovely all the same.

Elegant setting in the evening if you choose to sit on the balcony connected to the bar, you can choose from a fantastic range of cocktails, drinks etc.. Bar staff very attentive! You can capture the views of Vesuvius and the fantastic lights of Naples.

Legendary hotel with legendary staff!!!! Will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: You have to pay extra for a room with a view

We had a really spacious family room, (we have 2 teenagers) and there was plenty room for the 4 of us. All staff were extremely friendly and spoke good english. The shuttle bus was a great saving, although it would have been nice to have more time options, and the driver was very, very olbliging. There was never a tussel for loungers around the pool, which is a good size with lovely views. The only dissappointing thing was the food, (especially for Italy). Although the poolside bar offers snacks between 12.30 and 3pm, they were not freshly made, but in my opinion, poor quality pizzas that were heated up and quite expensive for what it was. Breakfast was pretty poor too. On this basis we didn't stay for dinner. Shame, cos it ticked all the boxes otherwise.
