We were a group of 10 with 5 separate rooms. All the rooms were wonderful - clean, cool and wonderful views. The dining staff were very efficient and accommodating. The food was excellent and reasonably prices when ordering off the daily specials menu.

Room Tip: The rooms with the smaller balconies are more private since the balcony is essentially shared with t...

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Sorrento, Italy and we stayed at the Hotel Minerva which was out of this world!! The views from the hotel are to die for, even although we had an attic room which didn't have a balcony the view from our picture frame window was fantastic, the Bay of Naples absolutely spectacular. There is a large terrace to sit and enjoy the view with a nice refreshing drink. We were half board, which was a buffet style breakfast, and waiter service for the evening meal, the food was great, plenty of variety and not a lot of repetition with the menu. The Gala night, on a Wednesday, allowed you to taste so many different Italian dishes.
The staff are also to be praised, they helped to make your holiday special and went out of their way to do so. Franco kept the rooftop pool area spotless, and his lunchtime snacks were great, along with the chat. The waiters in the restaurant were very efficient and friendly and made mealtimes a chilled experience. Thanks to Nino in the restaurant and Antonio at the bar for their sense of humour with my Italian!! The hotel is in a great situation which allows you to walk into the town area for some shopping, or just to sit and watch the world go by with a coffee or a beer. Sorrento old town, itself is enchanting with its small cobbled streets and a surprise around every corner with the vast amount of shops and restaurants.
Sorrento is also a good base that allows you to visit up and down the coast. We enjoyed a visit to Capri, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and used the public bus to take us to Positano which was an experience, hectic but enjoyable. We would also recommend the Sorrento Musical in the Tasso theatre, the performers were wonderful.
We highly recommend Hotel Minerva, and no doubt about it, we will return at some point for another holiday.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony, be willing to pay extra.

Excellent Hotel.Staff very friendly.Rooms very well maintained.Good variety of cuisine excellent service.
Stunning views from terrace where meals are served.Highly Recommended Hotel.

Go for a room with a view at the top of the Hotel room No's 500 +

Please note if you are visiting Capri it is very expensive and crowded at the time of year we visited (September) do not take the offer of a discount meal from the tour guide it is awfull you are better off buying your own.

Room Tip: Higher Rooms are Better

September 2011
great hotel, we picked it for the views, you have to pay extra for a sea view and a balcony, which is quite clean when you book - cant understand other reviews moaning about not having one, pay and you get it. if you dont want to pay the extra, dont, there is large terrace with great views that you can use all day plus, the rooftop pool and sunbathing areas, some very private, which also has great views. The staff were friendly and very good, the place is cleaned properly, we had a great maid, and the food was very good, plentiful and lots of choices, different every day. My husband loved the coffee, it is italian and very very strong so not to everyones taste. Pool looked after very well and kept very clean, even if this meant that Roberto the pool guy had to chase some guests to shower first........
the weather was very hot and the walk from town can be tiring in the heat but my husband has problems walking and we managed ok. you just have to pace yourself and factor in the odd rest, its not that steep. there are local buses which go past the hotel but you have to get your tickets at the tobaconists. Near town would be very nice but then you wouldnt have the magnificent views . the only complaint is no tea making facilities in the room, you know how we English like our tea, especially first thing on a
morning, would defintely recommend this place, was sorry to leave and go home

Room Tip: if you want a room with a view make sure you select and pay for it

We stayed at the Minerva for 2 weeks at the beginning of September as we were getting married in Sorrento. We chose this hotel because of the views, the Italian feel and the great photos of the rooms we had seen on the website. We requested a room with sea view but were quite disappointed when we were given a very dark room (108) with a door that opens out to the cliffside with no view. We had to keep all the lights on all the time in the day as it was so dark. We requested to change to another room with a sea view on our first day but were told it would be an extra 25 Euros per night for an attic room with sea view but no balcony which we weren't prepared to pay as we had already paid out a lot for the holiday and was hoping that we'd get a free upgrade to a sea view because of us getting married but unfortunately not :( We decided to stay put as the room was large and clean, had air conditioning and the beds were comfy. We didn't want to be spending that much time in the room anyway and we could get the views from the restaurant/terrace area. The room had plenty of storage and everything we needed apart from a kettle which would have been good to have. We did have a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit left for us which was a nice touch.

We went half board; the food was delicious and there was plenty of choice every evening, we had a different fish most nights. Eating on the terrace every evening with the view and watching the sun go down was lovely. The evening entertainment was very good. The waiter service was brilliant, professional and friendly. The only thing we didn't like at breakfast was the coffee which tasted like instant coffee.

We used the pool a couple of times to cool down at the end of the day. The pool seemed smaller than it looks on the photo but wasn't busy so we had plenty of space to swim and it was clean. But make sure you shower before you use it as the man who looks after the pool seemed very strict about it making sure everyone showered thoroughly! There were lots of sun loungers available to use and has great views.

We found the hotel to be quite a walk from the centre as when we had been out all day walking and sight seeing in the heat we did not look forward to the extra 20 minutes walk up hill from the train station on a narrow path along a very busy road!

Overall, our stay there was pleasant but sadly the room has put us off returning to the Minerva and so when we come back for our 1 year anniversary we will stay more in the centre of Sorrento.

Room Tip: If you don't mind paying the extra then ask for a room higher up with sea views

I have just returned from a stunning week at the Minerva Hotel. I could not mention one thing that was wrong with our stay, it was an utter pleasure. I myself am 21 and stayed with my two parents whom were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. We arrived to find wine and fresh fruit as a welcome gift and a personalised card congratulating them. I have never stayed in a hotel with such exquisite views, it was truly breath taking. The staff were attentive to every need an absolute pleasure to meet. Whether we went into the town or stayed in the hotel, there was always something to do. I would return in a heartbeat, my only regret, is I did not bring my partner, as it was truly a mesmerizing and romantic place, I wish I could have shared it.

Room Tip: Must have a sea view, breathtaking.

Stayed here in may 2010.
Service was really friendly especially Antonio on the bar. Food in the evenings was absolutly perfect, I ate a different type of fishevery night, and for my fussy boyfriend there was always some type of chicken or pasta on the menu. We never had a chance to use the pool on the roof as it was waaay too cold, but it was still a lovely place to relax with spectacular views across sorrento and the bay of Naples. Only negative point wad the room we were originally put in back onto an alley so we had no view and was so noisy with sirens goin past I could not sleep at night after requesting for another room everyday for 3 days we were finally moved to a lovely room with a balcony and a great view again across the bay of Naples
