The staff was always available to help - from the porter immediately upon arrival who carried our bags to the room, the front desk staff who all spoke perfect english, the gentlemen who served the delicious breakfast every morning and the pool staff - they were all fantastic. I've never been taken care of so well by such a helpful and always smiling staff. The room was just as described on the website - large and comfortable with modern amenities. The terrace was spacious, with views of the city and the sea. It was close enough to walk everywhere in Sorrento yet far enough away to have peace and quiet at night.

The pool deck was ample - the chairs were large and comfortable... my tan started strong while staying at Hotel Minverva :)

When I return to the Amalfi region of Italy, I will stay at Hotel Minvera without a doubt!

Room Tip: Request a room with a terrace - it's worth the money.

Accommodation, friendly staff and fantastic views from the bedroom, pool on the roof and restaurant over the Bay of Naples made it a dream holiday.
Had to get used to the hard beds and pillows.
Location of the hotel was perfect because it was approx. 900 metres from the town centre and about a 10 minute walk going down and 15 minutes going back.
One observation, not criticism, was that the Thomson holiday reps. didn't inform the guests during the welcoming meeting, which incidentally included a free guided walk through the town,
that any holiday in an Italian hotel incurs a 'Tourists Tax' payable by cash at the end of your stay.
Depending on the number of nights versus the * quality the tax payable is between 1 - 2 euros pppn, for example 7 nights for 2 persons at a 3* hotel would be 21 euros (in cash)
Would that deter us from returning to the Minerva Hotel - certainly not!
Organising your own trips by bus, train or boat is an experience, rewarding and certainly cheaper by a distance than the Travel Company organised trips.
If you are over 65 then take your passport to Pompei and Vesuvius and get free entry.
Thank you to Thomsons for a well organised holiday.
Gord'Sue

Room Tip: When booking through a Travel Agency, I would guess that it is hit and miss, but the vast majority of rooms have a sea view.

We had a wonderful stay at Minerva Hotel. It truly is a sun-worshipper's delight! We had a very comfortable and spacious room and there were beautiful views from our room, the terrace, and the pool level.

You are first struck by the public areas, how spacious and how expansive is the view. It was too cool for our taste to use the roof-top pool, but some did. You feel on top of the world up there gazing out at the Mediterranean. But that same view can be enjoyed from the beautiful restaurant and then again from every room in the hotel. If you are able to book one with a balcony, as most rooms have one, you will find it large enough to sit with a glass of wine in the evening or lounge in a chaise with a book. But with Sorrento's shopping and dining only a short walk away, there's too much else to do. There is a bus stop out front for those who find the walk too taxing, but since we didn't make use of it, I don't know how often it runs. The cleaning staff and dining staff are way above par and the front desk will help arrange any tour you might be interested in taking. The dinner prices were very reasonable and the included breakfast choices, extensive. I don't know what more to say except we would stay there again in a heartbeat, as soon as we can afford the airfare.

Went with Thomson's who months after we had made the booking advised us we would be staying in the annex and the review on this was not so good. Well we were in 207 in the 'annex' and it was a a beautiful quiet room, blue & orange with a king sized bed & a proper bathroom not a shower room. The doors to the balcony were double glazed so at night there was no noise from passing traffic or people on the terrace above on the 5th floor. and we had a balcony with 2 chairs & a table and the most beautiful view across the bay to Vesuvius, what more could we ask for. We also kept a chilled bottle of wine in the room fridge.

We were offered an upgrade on arrival for 20 Euro per night, which would be cheaper than what Thomson ask but the hotel was quiet it might not always be available. We didn't think we'd bother as I don't think any of the balconies will get the sun at any time of day and if you have a sea view room regardless of where you are in the hotel it will be the same beautiful view. 140 Euro's buys lots of drinks & lunches!

The terraces have big sofas, tables & chairs plus sun beds where you can buy a nice cold drink and gaze out at the view.

All of the staff were extremely helpful, knowledgeable & friendly and you can buy your bus tickets from reception. Food wise the evening meal portions were too big especially if you had a big plate of pasta as starters! We had breakfast on the terrace each morning, mostly continental but there was usually eggs & small smoked sausages as well, plus cakes.

The only downside is that to have wonderful views you are half way up a big hill. Fine in the morning going down for the bus/train (20 minute walk) but coming back in the heat we did struggle a bit.

Oh, Sorrento has introduced a 1.50 Euro tourist tax per person which you have to pay cash to the hotel on departure. We were not warned in advance.

Room Tip: All Sea view rooms will have a beautiful view
