“Fabulous views, wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 21 August 2012

The Hotel Minerva is an excellent choice if you want to enjoy spectacular views over Sorrento. It is a lovely hotel, where all areas, including the pool on the roof, were very clean and well looked after. Having breakfast outside on the terrace was simply wonderful and we also had one anniversary meal in the evening which was special, watching the lights coming on across the bay all the way to Naples. Even if you do not have a room with a balcony (we did, loved it) the terrace is perfect to sit and enjoy the view. There were not many young couples or families staying the same time as us (July 21-26), There was a quiet air of relaxation about the place, perfect after the hustle and bustle of downtown Sorrento. Although the bus to Amalfi stops outside the hotel we could not get on it at 8.45 am, so we walked to the Port (20 mins) and went on the boat, but caught the bus back. Spectacular Amalfi run, but wish we had taken travel sickness tablets, so many bends, it took one and a half hours. We would certainly stay in the Minerva again, you do not get the same views over the whole of Sorrento if you stay in the town. Be prepared to walk in high season because the buses get full.

Had a great stay at this hotel last week. Staff was professional and very friendly. Our only reservation about the hotel- the distance to town center-was quickly allayed and for us, the distance was a plus. Sorrento in the summer shuts down their main street traffic in the evenings and the streets quickly fill up with pedestrians. While it's a pleasure to walk these streets in the evenings, we were all glad that our hotel was some distance from the hustle and bustle. It's amazing what a 10 minute stroll can do. The sidewalk to town was more than fine and very scenic as it's on the bay side of the road. Overall, will definitely pick the hotel again if we return to Sorrento.

Room Tip: Lower floors (2-4) have fewer rooms/floor and seems to be more private.

Although the hotel is located in a main and busy road and a little bit far from the bay (about 30 minutes’ walk), it offers an incredible view across the bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius, which you can enjoy just relaxing on the pool or having breakfast or dinner on the terrace.

We had a room with sea-view and balcony, so this spectacular view could be enjoyed fully, with all different colors of the sky. You really have a feeling you can sit there and look all day and night. The bathroom is more from a 3-star-hotel, very simple and with few amenities, but very clean.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Stayed for 5 days at Minerva with my boyfriend and can only rave about how amazing the hotel is and espicially the staff. The staff cannot be more helpful and friendly and made our stay very special. Rooms are big and modern and the view from the hotel and our hotel room was out of this world. Ate in the hotel a few times and the food was very good. Had a wonderful time and will definetly be back and recommending it to friends.

This our first trip to Italy and we were apprehensive to say the least. We are a family of 4 all vegetarian. I had emailed the hotel to confirm they could cater for us, each email was responded to within 24 hours and cleared up any reservations we had.

We arrived at the hotel after midnight due to a flight delay. We were greeted with a smile and a freindly English speaking member of staff who directed us to our room and invited us down to the dining room as food had been prepared for us.

We had two attic rooms which struck us with fear after reading a bad review which had mentioned the attic rooms. We had nothing to worry about.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, they are large and spacious and yes they do have a sloping ceiling but standing at 5'10 I could stand upright at the lowest part of the ceiling. Although they have a small window which is quite low down the view is spectacular looking over the bay of Naples towards Mount Visuvius.

All staff spoke English and were always friendly and courteous.

The breakfast is a buffet style and you could eat as much or as little as you wanted with a large variation of food. For dinner you had the choice of five starters and main courses and you were given a choice of sweet. Being vegetarian which we only had to mention once during our stay we were advised what was suitable for us(there was plenty to choose from) My children are 16 and 11 years old and can be fussy at times. If they did not like anything on the menu they were asked what they would like and it was made for them. He food was lovely and you must try the pizza.

He hotel is situated on a main road which is approximately a 10 minute walk to the centre of Sorento and slightly longer down to the bay.

We went day trips to Pompii, Mt Visuvius, Herculaneum and Capri which we booked through out travel rep and provided knowledgable English speaking guides. I would recommend all of them but ensure you wear comfortable shoes.

Room Tip: Book a room on level 5 if you want a balcony. We were on level 7 which are the attic rooms but they...

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Minerva Hotel, August 2012.
The staff could not do enough for us, they were both friendly and courtious.
The hotel room was spotless and the view across the bay of Naples has to be seen to be believed. Only ten minutes walk from the town of Sorrento.
I am a coeliac and have a strict Gluten Free Diet, but this was no problem for the catering staff, all my meals were GF and the variety was superb, well done to all.
We will be back to the Minerva.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

We stayed for one week the rooms were comfortable with fantastic views across the bay of Naples. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was generally pretty good.
The pool on the roof is on the small side but pleasant and again with great views.
