“Second Stay At Ninerva”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

We have just come back from our second stay at the Minerva. The hotel staff are really friendly and the view from the room was fantastic. We were on a package with a holiday company, and we took a couple of ore booked trips. Giovanni as the organiser was brilliant and he is a real gem.

Room Tip: Get a sea view.

As everyone else has said, absolutely wonderful views of Sorrento from the hotel. All the staff were lovely but 'naughty Nino' the wine waiter and Antonio the bar man really made us laugh (Antonio makes great cocktails and said he'd been in competitions). Every time you went into the restaurant you were warmly welcomed by all the waiters. The pool guy keeps the pool etc. spotless - make sure you shower before you get in the pool or he will remind you (he has a good sense of humour too so don't take it personally). We didn't have a balcony (room 608) but had big windows which we were able to open fully and take in the view, and we were hardly in the room anyway. The room was spacious and airy and the hotel was very clean. We had a large bed (2 singles joined) and we found them to be firm but comfortable. The road noise during the day didn't bother us as we expected it and we didn't hear it during the night with the windows closed.
As the evenings got warmer we were able to sit on the terrace after dinner with a drink, chat with the other guests and listen to the guy on the organ (we're sure he made his own words up to the songs).
We went down to the Grand Marina (which is actually the small one nearest the hotel) and had a very nice lunch at the Emilia and O'Puledrone (we were given a complimentary limoncello from O'Puledrone and 1/2 litre jug of a decent tasting white wine was only €4). Sitting by the water with a guy playing an accordion, eating fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and seafood with a jug of wine... well you couldn't get better than that. Just what we imagined Italy to be but didn't think it existed.
We also had large wooden board of mixed Italian meats, mozzarella cheese and olives at the Monnalisa in the town which was very good (€16 for 2 to share)
We were on half board and had all our evening meals in the hotel as we didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. Usually about 5 choices of starter (which were the same size as a main meal) and about 5 choices for the main course too plus various desserts, not that we had many as we were too full. As others have mentioned it's the usual continental buffet breakfast but we enjoy that when we're abroad. Drinks in the hotel were cheaper than many of the bars in town €6.50 for a long drink/cocktail and €5 for a large beer. If you have a bottle of wine and don't finish it they will keep it for you to have the next evening. We paid $5 just for a can of coke in the main square at the Fauno but their olives and the chance to do some people watching was worth it! We travelled with Thompsons and our rep, Ashleigh, was very good. Go to the welcome meeting which is on the morning after you arrive. Ashleigh wasn't pushy in trying to sell you trips which tends to put people off the welcome meetings. and you are taken to a huge historic restaurant for a 15 minute talk and given the chance to have a look on what trips are on offer. You then can go on the mini walking tour of the town and get to have some tasters...
We took the recommendations posted on here and took the train to Hercleum but it was really busy and they weren't letting any more in until some left so we got back on the train and went to Pompeii instead. We also got the boat to Positano and the bus back - all very easy to do and if you're not sure just ask. Check out the forum and you will find out all you need to know.
I won't repeat all the excellent reviews but will say that the Minerva must be one of the best hotels in one of the best locations in Sorrento and already some of our friends are looking to book it in the future. Normally we tend not to return to a place but we would make an exception here.
Thanks to everyone at the Minerva for helping to make this such a great holiday X

My husband and I only stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour, but I could have stayed for a week. The location is perfect, with absolutely stunning views of the bay. There is a gorgeous terrace at the top of the hotel with lounge overlooking the views, as well as a lovely pool. The restaurant also capitalises on the views, with outdoor seating so you can enjoy Sorrento lit up at night time for dinner or absorb the early morning sunshine at breakfast. Our room was very clean and comfortable, with lots of room to spread out. Our balcony captured the beautiful view, and was perfect to have an early morning coffee. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and made for a pleasant stay. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Me and my sister stayed here last week for 1 week and we both thought the hotel service and staff were amazing. I have personally not stayed at a hotel as good as this, were the staff go out out of there way and are a pleasure to talk too every day of are holiday, it was like a little family!
We went half board so the breakfast was a buffet affair which included a lot of variety such as cereal, pastries, toast, cooked breakfast, fresh fruit and even cakes! Even meals were 3 courses, which you get a menu to pick from each night, the meals were fantastic and very tasty also the staff we very nice and if you like your wine a waiter called Nino was of great help to pick a good bottle to suite. After evening meal we had a drinks on the balcony or sat at the bar and chatted with the lovely bar staff, as they were very efficient and got for a laugh a lot.
The rooms we very clean and standard was very good. All the rooms look over to the wonderful Sorrento coast which was enjoyable day and evening.
Minerva was one of the best hotels we found for the view, along with the Bristol hotel next door, as a lot of others seemed to be blocked my trees or buildings.
We did have a look around at a lot of Sorrento town which was about a 10 minute walk down the lovely coast, overlooking the harbour, which we also walked down to one day for a bit of sun and swim in the sea.
The town itself was wonderful as its a very traditional Italian town with lots of little back streets to shop on or have a bit to eat, we would highly recommend Fauno Bar in the centre square which is good for people watching too.
We found it very easy to get around and there was a lot of hidden gems, such as the English pub and 'O Parrucchiano restaurant.
We did a lot of day trips with Thomson but we decided to get the SITA bus to Amalfi, you get you tickets from the train station in the station shop and the bus goes from outside the station too, the service was good as buses came every 10 mins or so and the ticket is pretty much a day pass for any SITA bus @ €6 each.
The Amalfi coast was breathe taking and amalfi itself was nice, coming back we decided to get a ticket @ €17 each for the open top boat.
There was a lot too see and do as we also did Pompei and Herculaneum, mount Vesuvius with wine tasting, which was one of the best trips we did as the wine tasting after was at a family run some wine vineyard where we also got the best home made spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce. If you get chance go on this trip with Thomson.
All in all we loved are stay here as its got a bit of everything to do and if you love the tradional Italian culture its perfect. We are defiantly thinking of booking again for next year as it was that good. Best holiday we have had.

Room Tip: All rooms look over coast but book early and request balcony if you want one.

This hotel is an absolute gem, it's situated on one of the busiest roads in Sorrento itself. But don't let this put you off, while you are inside the hotel you don't notice the hustle and bustle of the street. The room was very loud and vibrant, not my kind of decor but nevertheless it was nice. The balcony was good and had the most amazing views I've ever had from a hotel room.

The food was amazing, the best I've ever had in a 'full board' hotel.

The pool on the top of the hotel was small but quiet and there was lots of sun beds and a pool bar. Coupled with a panoramic view of Sorrento it's a great place to relax.

I would recommend this hotel to anybody who's looking for a luxury stay in Sorrento.

We just finished a 2 night stay here. I have to start that this hotel has the most beautiful views, just as all the previous people have shared! We stayed in a big beautiful room with a huge balcony which we enjoyed each evening! The balcony was private and we loved every minute of the privacy and the view! Being truthful however, the noise from the street is loud, like real loud! This could really be an issue if you are a light sleeper....

We didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel. It is a bit of a ways to walk to the town centre, but definitely not strenuous. Our dealings with staff was minimal but overall good. There was one staff member from the restaurant who went out of his way to make us feel second class or not welcome but we figure if we can afford to stay here we can definitely afford to eat here! Haha

You won't be disappointed with your stay at this hotel... And the view... Oh the view :)

We have just stayed at this hotel for a week and it exceeded well beyond our expectations. Our holiday was for our 25th wedding anniversary and a 50th birthday. On arrival, we were upgraded to a better room and there was sparkly wine and fruit in our room and the view! Oh my word. It was an absolute delight!
We enjoyed the excellent food the hotel provided and it was eaten as we overlooked the bay on th terrace.
The staff were so warm and caring it made our holiday very special indeed.

The surrounding area offered many day trips.....pompeii, amalfi, positino, capri and other places we never got chance to see. Therefore, we ll need a trip to explore even further.

So thank you Minerva hotel for making our holiday a very special and memorable holiday for us and we hope to see you very soon.

Room Tip: Room with a view, you can't go wrong.
