“Beyond all expectations - I felt like royalty”
Reviewed 8 June 2010

The hotel Minerva is way beyond anything I expected. It defies description and believe me, nothing you have seen on the web comes close to what it's like to stay here. The dining room is gorgeous, the food incredible, the service beyond the best from the doorman, the front desk, the cleaning staff, the wait staff... breakfast is the best I've had anywhere and beyond anything else in all of Italy. We had a balcony room that looked over the Bay of Naples and on to Vesuvius in the distance. We seriously considered scrapping the rest of our vacation plans and just taking root at Minerva. And the town of Sorrento isn't bad either!

You ever go on a website and see how the resort looks and when you get there and you're disappointed? The Minerva was just the opposite. The website can't explain the view form your rooms balcony of the bay of Napoli with Mt Versuvius in the background. The website can't describe how fantastic the manager Antoniette and her staff are. How helpful her staff is in organizing day trips or how the bartender explains in great detail of the making of his limenceillo. The website cannot possibly explain the restaurant staff and the incredible food they prepare.
So to say we never wanted to leave was an understatement.
A tip....please spend the extra dollars to have the Minerva book a private car (4 door Mercedes) your trip along the Amalfi Coast instead taking a tour bus.
The Minerva has fantastic views but because of that they aren't in the center of town. A 15 minute walk downhill into town and up hill going back. Good way to burn off the pasta that your consume in Sorrento.

You MUST stay here. We booked this hotel on recommendations from freinds and reviews on tripadvisor and what a great choice we made. We had booked for a 4 night stay but due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland we ended up staying for 11 nights.
Firstly, the location is just perfect with fantastic views over the bay but still a very easy 5-10 minute walk into the town centre. I was 6 mths pregnant at the time and walked both directions with ease at least twice a day as the walk back to the hotel is on a very slight incline that you barely notice as you admire the views.
The hotel itself is very clean and recently refurbished but still manages to hold onto the character. Most of the rooms have a balcony which I spent many a morning on watching fishing boats head out or cruise ships dock. As Sorrento is not known for it's beaches the roof-top pool is a wonderful addition. The bar is fully stocked and the lovely Antonio will ensure your glass is never empty. The restaurant was of a very good standard. We had a good choice of breakfast every morning and had dinner twice which could not be faulted and no more expensive than restaurants in the town.
As for the staff, where do I begin. Myself and my husband have travelled all over the world and stayed in some amazing hotels but the staff in the Minerva just took customer service to another level. From the Owner/Manager right through to the room keepers every single member of staff deserves a mention. The hotel is small enough that you are made to feel like an individual rather than just another room number but they still allow you the space to relax and do your own thing. As I said we were stranded here for an extra 7 nights due to the volcanic ash and the staff ensured that what could have been a stressful few days just became an extended holiday. They extended our room booking before we even had a chance to ask if it was possible to stay, they advised us on transfers and even removed charges for the internet to allow all the stranded guests to keep up-to-date with information from home. A big thank you to the front desk staff who continued to wave off guests only to have them return 3 hrs later when their flight was cancelled and welcome them back like old friends. And to Nino for not only looking after us so well in the restaurant but for also giving my husband a lift into town when we were trying to find alternative routes home.
Sorrento is a beautiful town ideally located for visiting the islands, Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi....but the little gem in the Gulf of Napoli is without doubt Hotel Minerva. We can't wait to return.....

This is a lovely hotel with professional staff, reasonable prices, breathtaking views and good food. After staying in much higher priced lodging, including a villa in Positano and hotels in Sorrento and Rome, we were greatly relieved to find that hotel Minerva was friendly and highly professional. There are two small but lovely unheated pools to choose from and a restful atmosphere where you can enjoy the unobstructed view of the Mediterranean and harbor below and enjoy some distance from the noise of the town. Attractively decorated with Italian tiles and mixed European architectural and interior design.

This was our second visit the first one was just my husband and I in July 2008 and this ime we brought two friends with us and they loved it as well. The hotel was a warm friendly family hotel nothing was too much trouble. the rooms were beautiful with wonderful sea views. The restuarant was lovely and spacious and the food was " belisimo" Staff were welcoming and always smiling and friendly and easy to chat with.
We liked it so much we have booked another holiday with our family so we'll be back in August 2010 see you soon we can't wait and our daughters and son-in-law are getting excited about the trip.

We had Room 505 with a huge balcony overlooking the bay. The food and service in the restaurant were excellent. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

What a nice surprise. I had no idea this hotel would be so beautiful. We booked a ocean view with balcony and were given room number 508. The room is gorgeous, lime green, lavenders and purple, tastefully done. The balcony overlooks the bay of Naples with Vesuvius peeking out above the clouds. The tile floor is gorgeous and the bathroom couldn’t be nicer. Everything is immaculate. Our balcony was not the super large one, just one small table and 2 chairs, but we had a great view right from bed of the room.
Pluses: Beautiful view from the balcony. Large couch, desk, beautiful décor. Fabulous reception courteous service. Plenty of electric outlets, some news tv in English, magnified mirror in bathroom, nice shampoo and toilet items. Bench for shower, blow dryer, bidet. Fitness center. Close to town. We didn’t mind the walk from the train station. I was expecting something much more difficult after some of the comments I had read. We pulled our 2 pieces of luggage with backpacks (all rolled) up the main street of town.
Negative- well, you have to walk up a hill to get there; Don't know how you can get a view like that without walking up a hill.
