Whilst our son holidayed in Ibiza, my wife and I decided to tick off one entry from our 'bucket list', namely, visit Pompeii and Herculaneum. Sorrento seemed the obvious resort to stay to do this. We decided on the Belair having read reviews and we are delighted with this decision.
The views across the Bay of Naples, every bedroom has a sea view I believe, are gorgeous with Sorrento in the foreground and Vesuvius across the sea.
The staff, from reception to restaurant to bar staff to chamber maids and porters, are exceptional.
The food is excellent. The pool is small, but big enough, and refreshing.
I should say that the hotel is not suitable for children, with no activity programme, but that suited us perfectly on this occasion.

Room Tip: As far as I know all rooms have sea views and so have superb views.

We stayed at the hotel Belair from 2nd to 8th August; we booked through Thompson’s Holidays.
By the time we arrived at the hotel it was quite late, but the dining room had been kept open for us and other travellers from Glasgow so we were able to have something to eat without leaving the hotel. We appreciated this very much.
Our room was lovely with great views across the bay to Naples and Sorrento. The room was immaculate and very spacious. The room was cleaned each day and the cleaner always ensured we had plenty of towels etc. At night our room was also given a quick tidy and towels again replenished.
The food at the hotel was fantastic with plenty of choice and the staff in the restaurant were extremely nice and very friendly as were all the other staff we spoke to during our stay. Nothing was any trouble to anyone and everyone should be very proud of the customer service they provide.
The walk into town is about 10 minutes and even in the extremely high temperatures at the time we were there, none of us found it a problem.
The other guests at the hotel were lovely and it was a pleasure to meet so many nice people. Particularly appreciated was the number of people who congratulated my son on passing his exams, which we just heard about during our stay.
Thank you to all at Hotel Belair. We had a great holiday and this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We are already looking forward to coming back next year.

The Hotel Belair has amazing views across the bay of Naples and Mount Versuvius . The rooms in the Belair are decent sized and traditionally decorated but with a few modern touches. Service our party received was first class and staff catered to our every need and want . Being in Sorrento for a wedding reception we couldn't have asked for any more from the Belair staff , The food in the hotel was outstanding and really couldn't be faulted. In general the clientelle the Belair attracts is of the older category but with our stay we found some guests to be very highly strung and extremely rude . One particular couple that we came across sat at the pool everyday with faces like snarling Rottweilers and would huff about the young kids in the pool being too loud ( obviously they don't have kids of there own) and male in this couple complained about every small detail but we never let this ruin our stay and to show how much of an imbecile this male was he sat in the pool with a kindle and complained when another guest splashed a small amount of water onto it when stepping into the pool by accident , anyone with common sense would clearly keep electronics away from the pool and may I add that the women in this couple wasn't much better and would also moan at every opportunity and would look down her nose(may I add that she had a nose like Frank Bruno on his worst night ) at other guests for maybe talking a few decibels higher than she thought was exceptable

We used Trip Advisor in the planning stages of our holiday and found that some reviews of hotels sounded false so we wanted to share our experience of the lovely Hotel Bel Air...

We stayed in room 101 for the first three nights of our trip in Italy and were blown away by the beautiful sea view. The room was spacious, stylish and clean, and came with a balconette area- perfect for reading a book and admiring Sorrento town. The staff were very friendly and helpful- special thanks to Monica who advised us on the best local restaurants and our day trip to Capri! Breakfast was served on a balcony overlooking the sea and offered fresh fruit, pastries and authentic Italian coffee. For dinner, try nearby eateries such as La Fenice and a tucked away Pizzeria that doubles up as a bowling alley for fresh, stonebaked pizzas. Hotel Bel Air was the perfect way for us to unwind and get into the holiday! Thanks guys!! x

Just returned home after spending an amazing 4 days in Sorrento at this hotel. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made the right choice. We hired a car from the airport and parking space was provided on Rooftop. All staff were extremely professional throughout our stay. They made it very easy to arrange excursions etc. and were always on hand to provide any local information we needed. The hotel itself has to be in the best position for the view of both bay and volcano. Easy to walk into town although pavement very close to busy road in some places. If you enjoy minimalist décor this is not the place to come. We found the very Italian feel in the communal areas a delight. Breakfast was buffet style along with eggs to order if required. There is something special about sitting outside in the morning looking out over the bay. Cannot recommend this hotel enough. If you are looking for the wow factor on your balcony this is the place to come. We will have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to family and friends. Thank you to all the staff that made our 30th wedding anniversary a moment treasured for ever.

The Hotel Belair has wonderful views across the bay from the bar, the restaurants and all the rooms.

The rooms were of a good size and the beds especially comfortable.

For 5 days the clientelle helped the ambience of the place, primarily couples but not exclusively so, who were friendly and socialable, but above all respectful of the other guests

The staff, like so may Italian hotels are first class. Very friendly and extremely helpful. Mario in the restaurant was exceptional, he even stood in as barman on his day off when the usual barman couldnt make it in.

The breakfasts provide something for everyone. From cereals, fresh fruit, fresh bread, eggs, bacon to cakes &tarts. Coffee, tea, fruit juices.

We were on half board and the Hors d'oeuvres gave such a wide choice and represented a meal in itself. After consumming this you still have 3 more courses to go! Eaten far to much!

I have read the comments about reserving sunbeds but it wasnt a huge problem at any stage during our 2 weeks stay. We always got 2 beds in the sun.

I note some have said the walk is more than 15 minutes. I didnt time it but it cant be much more. It is a leisurely stroll, slightly uphill coming back but hardly Everest.

I entitled this review 5 Idylic days (even though we stayed 2 weeks) so here is the significant down side of our stay.

Sorrento in general is relaxed and not a 'wild' party place. The clientelle are genteel and generally, although not exclusively so, older. Unfortunately, for our final week or so the hotel was taken over by a large group attending a wedding. They had no respect for anyone or their surroundings. They also had no volume control. Shouting to one another even when close by and hollering up to the rooms from the pool. Totally spoiling things for others but also seemed oblivious.
They even boasted about leaving a bar in the town without paying. Shocking!
They were 18-30 holidaymakers but i refer to weight not age. Most had tattoos, and that was just the women!
The hotel in my opinion should not allow groups of 25/30. I am certain they will fill the place with couples, friends and small family groups. It is a small discreet hotel afterall.

Frankly it took the edge off our holiday and unless the hotel could guarantee there would be no large groups then i wouldnt return.

The Belair has a fantastic view across the bay of Naples. The service was excellent. The rooms are nice. But the food, in our opinion was below that of a 4* hotel and, surprisingly, not particularly Italian. The major drawback is that although the hotel claims to be a 15 - 20 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento, this is very optimistic in July when the return walk is uphill for the last three quarters of a mile. The proximity to the centre of the resort, from where everything happens, definitely warrants a courtesy bus, which other hotels provide from just a couple of hundred yards further up the hill. The local bus service which runs past the hotel "every 20 minutes" is very unreliable and we experienced waits of 45 minutes and 50 minutes the only 2 times we endeavored to catch the bus. The result for us was that most evenings were spent on the hotel terrace, which brings as back to "The Belair has a fantastic view across the bay of Naples"

Room Tip: All rooms have wonderful view, but avoid rooms on level 3 which have balconies with table and chairs...
