“Fabulous Hotel on outskirts of Sorrento”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Sorrento staying at the 4* Hotel Belair. Booked via Thomson's ala carte range. On arrival didn't know what all the fuss was about this hotel on tripadvisor ie superb, fab, a must etc. Slightly disappointed with the decor and pool, but By the end of the week I did not want to leave.

I usually go for modern 5* hence my initial disappointment. But this is Sorrento and authentic Italian charm and elegance is the norm. This is a classic hotel without chrome, leather settees and glass, rather classic Italian furnishings and decor. You get use to this and come to appreciate its charm and character.

The food and service are superb. Michaeli and team are first class, food is to a good standard and served to your table. Choice is okay without being overdone.

We had a superior deluxe room with probably the best view I have ever had. Vesuvius and the bay of Naples direct ahead and Sorrento town to the left. The view is awesome. Room furnishings are basic but enough. Shower is within bath so take care.

One drawback is the pool and sun deck, size is limited and loungers are squeezed in. Would imagine it will be busy in peak times.

This hotel says its 1km from resort, add another 1km to get into the town centre. Takes approx 15-20mins to walk in, but beware of traffic. Also taxis are a complete rip off and should be avoided where possible.

Would I recommend this hotel. Most definitely. It's probably not for everyone but most will like it. Will I return? Again probably. Sorrento does not have buzzing nightlife more cafe and restaurants which add to its charm. The Amalfi coast is a must to visit and there are plenty more attractions to view if that's your thing.

Thanks to all staff at the Belair for a fab and memorable holiday. Won't forget this one for a while.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with large terrace. All rooms have a good view but certain rooms have a larger area t...

The location and views at this hotel were spectacular. It was a short 10 to 15 minute walk into the town of Sorrento which we absolutely loved. The breakfast buffet was good and we also ordered omelets that were very good as well. My only complaints were that the bathroom was not completely clean and the wifi did not work very well. I didn't address this with the staff but am sure they would have done everything they could to correct the problem if I had.

This hotel, located on the cliff, gives you a great view of Sorrento and the bay of Naples as a whole. This view will be forever marked in our minds. We would wake up to the sunrise and watch the sunset every evening from our own balcony. The rooms are clean, comfortable, staff is helpful and very nice. The pool is wonderful with a great view. We will go back to this hotel anytime and recomment it to any traverlers. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

My husband and I were here for 2 weeks, we were the youngest in the hotel at 27.
Beautiful views which would be extremely hard to beat!! Fantastic attentive staff who could not be more helpful, they really were first class!!
We were half board, dinner is advertised as a la carte however each night there is a menu of around 3 starters, 4 main courses and 2/3 desserts, some night I was hard pushed to find something that I hadn't already had ie veal, fish or chicken.
Perfect base for visiting surrounding areas, visited Rome for a night, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capri.
Couldn't recommend this hotel enough for your stay in Sorrento.

Room Tip: Room 107 was beautiful with a great balcony!

Stayed here for five nights in May. The hotel is perched on the rock face and looks out over the bay of naples. The walk from the main town to the hotel was only around 15 minutes, and wasn't too steep. The road leading to the hotel is busy a lot of the time, which means you need to concentrate in places. Fortunately, you wouldn't know there was a road outside once in the hotel. The reception staff, breakfast waiters and cleaning staff were all excellent. Helpful and eager to assist. There were trips on offer but if you are adventurous, use the local transport to visit the sites and save yourself some money. The circumvesuvania railway is 20 minutes walk from the hotel and for around €4 for a single, gets you to Pompeii in around 40 minutes.
Breakfast was buffet and there was also a hot option. Rooms were clean and everything functioned. The rooms look a bit dated but are perfectly acceptable. The bed was really comfortable. If you fancy watching television in English, you'll be a bit disappointed though.

Room Tip: All rooms have a lovely sea view.

There are just six weeks left, before our trip to Sorrento - and our third stay at the Hotel Belair. So why has it become such a favourite destination for us?
Firstly, because Sorrento itself is such a magical town and it is so convenient for visits to Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum, The Isles of Capri and Ischia, The Amalfi Coast and many other destinations.
Secondly, the views from every room in the Belair - poised as it is right on the clifftop - are, without doubt, the finest you could possibly get. I vividly recall the comments made by a fellow guest at the hotel last year, when she told us, "When I went out on our balcony last night for the first time, I cried , because I've never been anywhere so beautiful in all my life". We certainly agree; from dawn to dusk, the views over the town, along the coastline and up to the towering mountainous background seem to change constantly, so that you can spend hours just 'looking'. And when night falls, the lights along the Bay and in the hills glint like strings of different jewels. It is little wonder that the film 'Love is All You Need', starring Pierce Brosnan, was set in and around this lovely place.
Thirdly, but most importantly, the Hotel Belair is probably the most welcoming and well appointed venue we've encountered on our many years of travel. We first stayed at the Belair in 2006 and were amazed to discover that almost ALL the staff were still there, when we re-visited last summer! The helpful, cheerful staff at Reception; Lorenzo, the porter who took us to our room; Anna, our happy and efficient room-maid; Steffano, the gym and pool supervisor; Rossano, the ebullient and knowledgeable Barman; Michele, probably the world's most magnificent Maitre d'Hotel and his wonderful catering team. What a team they are! Our room was fabulous, the cuisine second to none, the service better than we've had anywhere in the world and the situation of the hotel in such an idyllic setting could only be bettered in Heaven! It's no wonder that so many guests return to the Belair annually.
