The Belair is situated not too far out of Sorrento town centre (about a 15 minute walk) and is perched on the cliffside overlooking the sea, Naples and Vesuvius. A beautiful view! The hotel itself is full of old style charm; very ornate Italian decor with a fabulously retro riviera feel to it. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable and every room has a balcony or terrace. The pool is great but get there early for the sun as it's in the shade by 3 or 4pm, and remember to go to the hotel next door where you can use the private beach - it's so lovely and secluded and perfect for snorkelling. The staff at the Belair are lovely and friendly and breakfast is great. Overall a fab place to stay and a good base for all those trips to Amalfi, Pompei and, most amazing of all, Herculaneum.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Belair in Sorrento. We were on our honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast and this was our favorite hotel by far. First of all, the view from our room was amazing ( better than positano or capri), the staff was friendly and helpful at all times. They were also nice enough to offer us a complimentary dinner and champagne because we were on our honeymoon (which was also excellent). Standard european breakfast offered every morning, with toast, jams, cheese, fruits. The hotel is located on via Corso which is a short distant away from the town center, which makes it a bit quieter.we enjoyed our strolls into town 10-15mins each day. the rooms are not luxurious in american standards, but are tastefully decorated in the traditional european fashion. All in all, couldn't ask for a better view or service and we definitely look forward to staying at hotel belair again!

We stayed at the Belair for 6 nights: 2 parents and 2 children, 9 and 6. We asked in advance for communicating rooms and got nice rooms (#104 & 105) with balcony, overlooking the Bay of Naples and the city of Sorrento. Wonderful views. Rooms are quiet and we could not hear any noise from the road.
Swimming pool looked good, but it was too cold to try
Nice breakfast buffet. We had diner in the hotel one evening and there is a set menu, which was good.
Staff was very nice, smiling and ready to help.
Parking may be an issue during the high season. The hotel is 10-min. walk from the city itself.

I could not fault the service and our room had a fanyastic view across the Bay and down to the old harbour. However, it is not wearing it's age very well - sometimes the old world look works well and hints at the charm of a by-gone era, but in this case it just looks old.
The food is fine but uninspiring - probably best to stay on bed & breakfast basis and try and find some of the excellent restaurants we did in the town.
Like Sorrento, the hotel is very Anglocised so if you are looking for local charm I would look elsewhere.

My wife and I stayed at the Belair for five days of our honeymoon and had a great time. The Belair is built into the side of a cliff, and has gorgeous views of the bay. It is a little outside of town, but easily within walking distance (it's an easy ten minute walk to the center of town - we only used cabs when getting to and from the train station, which was pretty expensive). The hotel was quiet and clean, and the room - a single room with a restroom and balcony - was very pretty. The internet connection was slow, and could not be accessed from the rooms (you had to pay a third party ISP to get access). The staff was very friendly, even going so far as to respond to my three phrases of Italian with generosity. It was a bit pricier than the type of hotel we're used to, but we were very satisfied.

Other than breakfast (standard continental), we did not eat at the hotel.

My wife and I stayed early July 2008 and had a great time.

Neither of us are fans of the traditional package holiday from our youth and [at this time] just needed a get-away-from-it-all kind of break. A week to kick back, relax somewhere quiet and read a few books. We're generally a one time only couple, rarely revisiting places. This was also our first experience of Italy.

The hotel was spotless, the staff polite courteous and happy to do anything from the outset. Our room (a junior suite) was clean and comfortable. We had no problem with the food or anything else really (except coming home). With it's cliff top location, you get stunning views of Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius.

A word of warning though. This place is not a party hotel by any stretch. There is no club or music going on at 4.00am. It's quiet and a refined holiday experience. We're in our mid-40s and were one of the youngest couples there. No kids or teenagers. If this fits your demographic then book with confidence, otherwise, go to Ibiza.

Unusually for us, we're going back in July 2009. We loved it that much!

Not taken an all-in Holiday before so a bit cautious in case we dis not like the the hotel, arriving outside it looks like nothing. However, from booking in to out, it was all a sheer joy. The staff all spoke good english, but in particular the restaurant team are outstanding - nothing was too much trouble. We stayed half board as most seemed to, breakfast was always lavish, even though the same every day and evening dinners were all really good with a decent choice. We had a fabulous 'Gala' night (Thursday) and the opera singer they laid on for the Sunday night, Carmine Orsine and his pianist were fantastic, you would struggle to find such quality in the UK, but free with the evening meal was real value. A bus stop outside the entrance made it easy to get in/out of Sorrento, but be aware, they move the return bus stops in the evening out of the square.
With Vesuvius, Pompeii, Amalfi and Capri all great tourist visits, we think this is the best week away we have ever had. Most nights there were Fireworks somewhere, but some were right below us - see picture. Great food, rooms, views and staff plus it is a really quiet hotel, make this a hotel you do not have to be anxious about - we'll be back.
